Yankees Prospect...
I wanted to make a thread focusing on only pitching. One of the things I've always hated about other forums is that it was difficult to have a focused discussion about some topics. Often threads would wander off into oblivion. Maybe a bit more focused discussion might help. We can discuss our Starting Pitching and Relief Pitching here. If anyone is morally opposed to this thread I don't mind merging it with the offseason thread. FYI - Free Agents Starting pitchers Brandon Backe (32) Cha Seung Baek (30) Miguel Batista (39)

Ill come up with a good name to fit with this later.. I just woke up and my mind isnt working.. but I figured it would be good to get started on this. I had an idea, and I know its a risky move and I know it will more then likely get shot down here...and of course its a Plan C or D or Z for that matter... but Eric byrnes. I know hear me out. The rumors is Eric Byrnes is going to be cut.. which means we would get him for what I make an hour salary wise... Speedy guy that can hit at the top of the order, say the 2 hole, and a guy that can play defense, steal a base, and hit the ball for a good average.. when healthy. I was thinking the whole contract year explosion would benefit us.. thoughts?

If it's a minor league deal and he comes off the bench, it wouldn't be a bad idea. It would give us some power off the bench, that we lack right now. http://riveraveblues.com/2010/02/for-your-consideration-gary-sheffield-23546/
Lineup, bullpen, and rotation. How do you see some of these battles turning out? Go ahead and predict their stats also.
Lets start this baby up. We need a new list to start the 2010 season. Now would be a good time to start the voting.

The Beckett Blog (hat-tip to Zell's Pinstripe Blog) is reporting that Topps will be including some special Yankees "pie cards" in their 2010 baseball set. Apparently the cards are going to be pretty rare. Here's a list of the cards including some pics: No. 400 Alex Rodriguez- 5/16/09 No. 475 Johnny Damon- 5/17/09 No. 120 Jorge Posada- 7/4/09 No. 185 Hideki Matsui- 7/20/09 No. 400 Alex Rodriguez- 8/7/09 No. 370 Robinson Cano- 8/12/09 No. 370 Robinson Cano- 8/28/09 No. 65 Nick Swisher- 9/8/09
For the Yankees, there is no single position with more organizational depth than catcher. Four catchers made the Yankees top 8 prospects according to Baseball America, and likely big league backup Francisco Cervelli wasn’t one of them. Jorge Posada hit 22 home runs last year, Jesus Montero is one of the top hitters in the minor leagues and Gary Sanchez is very quickly opening eyes in the lower level. The state of the Yankees catchers is very good, and might be getting better. A quick snapshot of the organizational depth shows Montero one step away from the big leagues. What it doesn’t show is that Romine is only a step behind. It also doesn’t leave much room for names like P.J. Pilittere (upper-level depth) and Kyle Higashioka (more lower-level talent). Unless the Yankees make a late signing, Cervelli will go into spring training as a heavy favorite to open on the big league bench, while Rivera will provide experience in Triple-A. He could be useful if the Yankees need a...
Like it was said.. makes that trade look a little better now

The Yankees Universe (TYU)
Four spots in the rotation are set, so are eight places in the lineup. The bench and bullpen roles are largely locked up or have heavy favorites. It more or less goes without saying that the final bench spot and the final bullpen role will be decided in camp, but these seem to be the four biggest battles as the Yankees move closer to spring training.
We're hosting one on the site. Still looking for GMs. The Yankees are taken, but if your drafting all time players I guess it doesnt matter huh? Any one interested can apply here and see a complete GM list and Teams available list here Thanks guys
Even before John Lackey signed with the Red Sox for a deal nearly identical to the 5 year, $82.5M one that the Yankees gave A.J. Burnett a year prior, many saw the two as being very similar. Both pitchers are right handed, oft-injured about six and a half feet tall and around 30 years old with intimidating on-the-mound demeanors. Today, however, I wanted to compare Lackey to Javer Vazquez given their parallel entrance to the Yankees vs. Red Sox rivalry and their disparate reputations in regards to handling pressure. Lackey has been in the league since 2002 and has averaged 188 innings per season since then. Over that same time period, Vazquez has averaged 215. Lackey's ERA is about a quarter of a run lower over stretch, but that's essentially erased by having to fill in those extra 27 innings a year with a replacement level pitcher. In general, when John Lackey is healthy, he's a better pitcher than Javy Vazquez. But he's also the Red Sox highest paid player ($18M this year) and...
