Brett Gardner has been running lately. He seemed to be taking a bag every game early in the season, then he slowed down, and now he’s stolen a base in four of his past seven starts. “Early in the season I was getting on base a lot and running a lot, and my legs just got a little tired,” he said. “With Curtis (Granderson) out, I didn’t want to push the issue. I need to start running more. I wish I had been running more recently in the last several weeks, but I will. When we need me to try to get into scoring position, I’ll try to. I’m healthy, and I was healthy, it’s just a matter of trying to be smart.” I wrote this weekend about what it’s like to watch Gardner as he takes his lead off first base. Everyone in the building knows what might happen, but only Gardner knows what will happen. Even Joe Girardi has no idea when he’s going to run. “With my speed I should probably be more successful than I am,” Gardner said. “It’s all a matter of learning the pitchers. It’s not about...

Where is the GT? Swisher 2 run bomb in the 1st already
promised by the Yankees tomorrow at 4 PM. Reported on MLB Network by Peter Gammons and Ken Rosenthal. Let the speculation begin... and it better not be Berkman
Brian Cashman has done a terrific job as General Manager on the Yankees. Taking over in 1998, he has won 4 World Championships as GM of the Yankees and has made some great moves. He's also made some, to be kind, not so good ones. He's gotten a lot better over the years, making a lot better decisions, and learning to walk away when he doesn't get what he wants (ex. Johnny Damon, Cliff Lee, Dan Haren). He's made some great moves, and bad ones too. Here are the bad ones first.
Colin Curtis and Juan Miranda are packing their bags. They’ve been optioned. By the way, “packing their bags” is not a figure of speech. Curtis and Miranda have lockers next to one another in the Tampa clubhouse and they were literally packing their bags when the reporters walked in. (im a fan of Colin Curtis he really showed me something with his bat he really seems like he could of hit well if given a shot...)

A two-month long stint on the disabled list and one setback later, Nick Johnson has finally resumed baseball activities down in Tampa. The forgotten Yankee is simply taking grounders at first right now, though he did hit test his surgically repaired wrist by hitting some soft toss with a fungo bat earlier in the week. He also took some dry hacks with a regular bat. “I don’t really know what to think at this point,” said Joe Girardi on Tuesday. “Until he starts actually taking swings in batting practice, I don’t know what to make of it, when we might get him back.” Johnson is pretty much in the same boat as Al Aceves; anything the Yankees get out of him from here on out is a bonus. They can’t, and shouldn’t count on him staying productive and healthy the rest of the season given the nature of his injury. It sure would be nice to have OBP Jesus and his military style plate discipline bat in the lineup, though. RAB

Hip Hip Jorge Posada http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Houston+Astros+v+New+York+Yankees+DDfi_Qg9A1wl.jpg And Your World Series Champion The New York Yankees http://drucifer.net/ComGraph/Titles/AT.gif
Derek Jeter has been on the big stage since 1995. So has Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettitte. The so-called "core four" have been here for 5 Canyon of Heroes Parades. Alex Rodriguez has been in the Bronx for 7 seasons now, winning 2 MVP awards, hitting over 250 HRs for the Bombers, while chasing baseball immortality. So whose team is this that looks to build the next Yankee Dynasty. My answer would be Mark Teixeira. The guy is a class act in EVERY way...he's the type of guy you would want your kid to grow up to be and your daughter to marry. He NEVER complains (at least not publicly...ala Derek Jeter) and plays EVERY DAY. The Yankees have played 100 games this year, Teixeira? all 100. His glove has markedly improved the ability of Jeter and Cano to get to balls they didn't get to 2 years ago. Teixeira's range allows Cano to slide towards 2nd, thus allowing Jeter to play deeper in the hole at short, thus allowing A-Rod to play a "normal" third base,...
There are 62 games left and Robinson Cano, albeit not the front-runner for the AL MVP at this point, still remains in contention to win the award. We all know what strong Aug/Sept numbers Robbie likes to put up! Here is a history of the MVPs for the New York Yankees (latest to 1931, when the award was created). 2007 Alex Rodriguez 3B 2005 Alex Rodriguez 3B 1985 Don Mattingly 1B 1976 Thurman Munson C 1963 Elston Howard C 1962 Mickey Mantle OF
