Heck, I would pull the trigger on Joba for King Felix.. I guess, I'm just looking at all the time the Yankees have invested in the Joba project. Seems like they are determined to prove to the world that they were right about Joba being a servicesable SP. However, I think Joba's position with the team SP or BP will probably be determined next year while Hughes takes spot light as new SP project... I would love to see Kennedy in mix somehow..I think he was really promising.

The Yankees simply want to be sure, or as close to being sure as possible, about what they have in Joba Chamberlain before making such a big decision. That's it. There are still questions about him being a top of the rotation starter, and until those questions have good answers the Joba Project continues.

BTW...what is with this Joba for Felix crap? That trade is not going to happen. The fact is, Joba has not been involved in any trade talks that we would want to explore. There's no such thing as "untouchable". Everybody has a price. But will that price be met? That's the question.

Its the offseason thread. My fantasy offseason would be this....

My real offseason would be this...

Its a place to throw out ideas just to be discussed.

Im sorry its not the "please Bryan thread"

Well said Eagles..I don't think it's crap for you to speculate on trade ideas..It fosters discussion on what others are thinking..

First thing's first...No thread, in which Iggles and Biggie can post in, is a "please Bryan thread".

I thought this thread was designed to discuss what could happen this off-season, and why we would or wouldn't like it. Signing Eric Byrnes is something that could happen. Trading for Felix is something that can't happen without the help of a genie.

If you want to discuss fantasy, start a new thread. I was under the impression we were talking about the real world here.

I kind of agree with bryan on this one.

I mean I dont wanna be dickish and say you cant talk about whatever you want. This is DSP, and we're not neo nazi's here that delete and close threads, etc when they go off topic.. but the general idea was the Yankees offseason plans.

No way we offer Damon arbitration. He would get, what, a minimum of 15 mill? Plus the "great" season he had (power wise) would get him a little more. Imagine a 36 year old Damon with no range or arm in the outfield and a declining bat getting 17 mill +

    Evil Empire indeed

I would not offer arbitration to either Damon or Matsui. They would get way too much after accepting..which they most likely would since they probably won't get a multi-year deal elsewhere, nor would they get a 1 year deal worth more.

Offer Matsui like $7 million to be a part-time DH. If he turns it down...whatever. I don't think he'll get more than that elsewhere. Hell, Abreu only got $5 million last season, and he can at least play the field and is arguably a better hitter.

Offer Damon a 2 year deal worth like $18 million ($9m a year). I'm sure he would take that, as like I said earlier, he won't get a multi-year deal elsewhere...at least not at that AAV. And I don't see him getting more than $9 million for a single season either.

Basically low-ball these guys. It may be a dick move, but the Yankees have been over-paying players for years. It's about time they try and save some money. And I don't think either player is upset that they only made $52 million and $73 million with the Yankees in 4 and 7 years.

One guy they should offer arbitration is Nady. He only made $6.55 million this season, and will not see a raise...or much of one anyway. As long as he does get Type B status, as MLBTR thinks he will.

Nady would accept too though.. Thats my only concern.

I agree with the low ball offers though. Im tired of over paying for guys long past their primes just because they are Yankees.

So what if Nady accepted? It would cost...what...$7 million tops? That may not be a bad thing, as he's not a bad hitter. Then again, I don't know how his surgery went. Will he be able to play in 2010?
