I have no issue with it. I am sure it is coming to baseball. That said, I also have no doubt the first one that is given shit will use it as an excuse for the union to get involved. That is the problem with it being such a big deal. If it were just another player, it would not matter near as much when something goes awry and it will.

I would expect the shit giving would happen more in football, which has a bigger machismo factor than baseball.

Really, for a gay athlete to make a big impact in professional sports, they need to be good. Being the first one (officially) is great, but you don't want to be that guy who comes out, and is a bench player or a non-factor.

Kind of lame how serious people are with this stuff. If you can play, you can play. No matter what color you are or who you're attracted to.

To expand on MZA's post, people were thinking that the guy who came out last year in the NBA is still unemployed because he said that we was gay. In reality, the dude just wasn't that great at basketball haha. It goes both ways.

I blame the far left and the media. Not ONE Dodger fan would give a shit if Puig was hitting .310 30hrs 100rbis and getting his ass pounded every night. And, that is not just a left coast thing. If the quarterback for LSU was the best in the country and throwing for an insane number every game and beating the shit out of Nick Sellout in the big one, we would find him a guy if that is what he is into. It really is all about results in sports. The rest of the planet could learn a lesson from that.

One of the great things about sports is that it doesn't discriminate. If you can ball, you can ball. I agree, most fans of the team you are playing for won't care if you are gay, black, a woman, or old as dirt as long as you can ball. I imagine this could fuel opposing teams' fanbases and some ignorant casual fans resulting in some backlash towards the player, like a Jackie Robinson situation. But in the end, true fans and fellow players won't care as long as the person can play.

I think openly gay players in all sports would be a good step forward for a culture that still has anti-gay pockets. Fearing/hating/discriminating against gay people is (ironically) the gayest thing you can do.

    pretty awesome story...

When a fan decked out in 49ers gear appeared at the massive Seahawks' Super Bowl parade, he earned himself plenty of attention on social media.

Among those who took notice was Catherine Tate, president of Ladies of the Empire, a 49ers booster club. Tate wanted to reward the young man's bravery and loyalty by inviting him to the Seahawks-49ers game next season at the new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. She had a front-row, 50-yard line ticket for him. Tate created an account on GoFundMe.com, so other 49ers fans could help pay for his trip from Seattle to the Bay Area.

That's when the story took a twist.

It turns out the fan is a 15-year-old homeless boy named Ronnie Andrews. He lives in a shelter and is a ward of the state, which means he might not be able to travel to California until he is 18.

In the meantime, 49ers and Seahawks fans alike have helped raise more than $26,000 for Andrews, and Tate wrote over the weekend on GoFundMe.com that the funds will not go to waste:
The money will NOT just be handed over to this minor. Once this minor has been placed with a foster parent we will contact the foster parent and arrange to set up a bank account in this minors name to be accessed when he turns 18. This minor has a huge desire to attend college and is blown away that so many people want to help him. He fully intends on using this money for this purpose. You all have changed this kids life. I can appreciate the skeptics. But I assure you this is one story that is very very very real.

On Monday, she had an update with more good news:
