Wait? Renteria is available? How have we not signed this guy yet?

    Where's Rich Aurilia nowadays?

Kuroda: "I wanted to be able to win a championship"
Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Feb 18, 2012 [IMG] Print This Post | [IMG] Email This Post

Earlier this winter, there was a sense that Hiroki Kuroda had changed his mind. He didn't want to pitch for the Yankees in the past, but he suddenly jumped on their $10-million offer. The implication, of course, was that Kuroda didn't like the Yankees, but he liked their money.

This morning, Kuroda said that's a bit of a misconception.

"It's obviously one of the prominent teams, not just in baseball but in all of sports worldwide," he said. "This is a team of tradition and a lot of heritage and a lot of players came out of it, and I wanted to be on a team with a lot of pride, and I wanted to be able to win a championship. This has been my goal since I came from Japan, and I thought this would be the chance that I would get, and that’s why I joined the Yankees."

So why wouldn't he come to the Yankees at last year when the Yankees looked into acquiring him at the trade deadline?

"Last year during spring training, I was wearing a Dodgers uniform," he said. "I wanted to win a championship with the team I had in spring training. I wanted to stick with the team and stick with my teammates, and when the offer came, I really had to think. I just couldn't change my my mind, and I decided to stick with the Dodgers."

For whatever it's worth, Kuroda said he's always liked New York — "A lot of people, a lot of cars obviously, but I've always felt a positive energy from it," he said — and although he wouldn’t commit to any plans beyond this season, Kuroda said he’s fully committed "to give 100 percent and contribute to the Yankees as much as possible."

Will the American League East be much different from the National League West?

"I'm aware there’s a lot of great hitters in the American League East," he said. "But it's something I have to be on the mound and feel myself. I'm sure I'll have that experience."

Oh, boy is he in for a surprise. Let him get rocked for a couple of innings vs. the Red Sox and he won't be feeling all those positive vibes, baby...

Similiar topic in ownership thread this one is less about the sale process and more about the scary possibility of their mindset moving forrward.

Just introducing the above to the discussion will probably mean no new deal for Dre before the season begins and who knows about the trade deadline. The problem with the new media contract just might be that winning isn't as necessary to make money as the franchise moves forward.

    I

I know I like him somewhat less than the next guy, or the majority does on here...but I just get the feeling this is arefully thought out and interpreted for the press. It's all the right things to say....what chance did we have of winning the "championship" last year at the trade deadline? Just sounds contrived and basically bogus to me. He may make more per victory with the Yanks than he did with us ! Unlikely, but could be true. W/L? Psshaww...
I'm sure there are many (most) that think the guy is a samurai from the 17th century reincarnate and all that honorable shyte, but I think he's inscrutable. Ha!
Ten million is ichi-ban honorable, I say.

    Blake DeWitt Accepts Outright Assignment
By Tim Dierkes [February 20 at 10:45am CST]

Cubs infielder Blake DeWitt accepted his outright assignment, tweets MLB.com's Carrie Muskat. Despite a $1.1MM contract, the Cubs removed DeWitt from the 40-man roster this month to open a spot for Adrian Cardenas. He has a chance to earn his way back on the roster with a good performance this spring.

DeWitt, the Cubs' main return in the July 2010 Ted Lilly/Ryan Theriot trade with the Dodgers, hit .265/.305/.413 in 243 plate appearances last year. A left-handed hitter, DeWitt played left field, second base, and third base in 2011.

MANNY"S BACK!!!! Signed a contract with the A's! Billy Ball at it's best!!!!
Does he get suspended for 100 games or what? Do they play this game...put him on the 25 man roster, then let him stew for 100 days (minor league eigible?), then bring him up in August as their DH?
