Wouldn't call it a platoon, expect Kendrick to play when healthy.

Yeah, Utley has a role in which he can move around and give guys a day off, like filling in for Turner @ 3B every 4th or 5th day however they sort that out.
I imagine he'd give Howie a day here and there as well as maybe AGon at 1B when they want a lefty stick over righty SVS

didn't think a two year contract would be possible. This is great news. Decline aside, Howie is still one of our most valuable bats. We all know Kike is best suited as a super utility man extraordinaire. Utley goes from a minus in the starting lineup, to a solid plus with a bench role. I actually like him on our team there.

Heyman says $20 mil, 2 year deal
Holy crap, I wonder if he's off cause that seems low (unless 20 mil per?)

I'll take a two year contract for $20 mil for Howie. Was not expecting him to get that, so his age 32-33 seasons will be here and then he is likely out the door. His bat does a better job of completing the lineup, but I am still interested to see how Utley is swinging it coming out of camp. The Dodgers are looking to have a pretty tough 25-man roster.

That's the " I have a 1st round pick stuck to my ass " price.
Thought maybe they'd go 3yrs with a couple vested after the 1st, 2 is nice tho
    Micah Johnson is probably mad

I actually don't. Before Howie came back into the picture I was ok with Utley platooning and as a bench guy. Now, if Howie comes back to the fold Utley is holding a spot on the 25 man that could end up blocking a young player when we need a fresh bat. If Utley turns it around and actually hits, then it's not so bad, but if he stinks as bad as he did in '15 then he needs to be flushed.

Is Turner expected to start the season on the DL?

Didn't realize how much more comfortable the season would be with him coming back

Enrique as a super utility is so so good for this team. Every year you have some bad injuries or slumps and now instead of Elian Herrera or some nobody having to come in, we have legit MLB caliber guys.

It's not far off in-terms of AAV from Daniel Murphy 3/37 (I think), and he's younger, regarded by most as better.

He'll likely get incentives for games played, etc.

They reported today no setbacks and on track for spring training but he's also played zero baseball games since injury so, things could easily pop up

You could say that about many veteran players on the roster. If they perform well then great, if not then flush em.

I know people mock "depth" and shit, but these types of teams where you're excited to even see the bench players and beyond play makes it worthwhile for us who watch every single game. Those Sunday B and C team lineups won't be dreadful

He probably will, but in terms of young bats getting blocked, Utley is not really going to be stopping anyone from coming up. Micah Johnson is the closest thing, but he needs to turn things around before coming back up. If he does come up he should be playing everyday which is now blocked. He could be trade bait if he has a good start in MiLB.

Good on Howie, understanding the pitfalls of saying " I'll wait until after the draft and then catch on during the season "
That approach hasn't worked out in regards to performance for the individuals.
Grab the money now, get in camp, get right and help the team, rather than bum rushing a clubhouse and feeling out of place.

    sounds about right to me
$9.5MM last year and no one else was really willing to give up a draft pick

The qualifying offer worked out really nice for the Dodgers IMO

Greinke being back is obviously substantially better then just a draft pick, but at least they get one.

A 1 year, 15.8 million dollar deal for Brett Anderson is a hell of a deal when you consider Ian Kennedy is getting 70 mil and Mike Leake 90 mil

2 years, 20 mil for Kendrick is an amazing deal as well, better then 1 year 15.8 and better then a really long term one

No doubt. There's money to be lost missing the first 2 months of the season too, in addition to poor season preparation like you said. He saves some face by getting a deal bigger than the QO, but if he had to do it over again he probably takes the $15.8 million. I expect we are going to see more players jumping on the QO next offseason.
