Yeah. Definitely shady. Lent was as vindictive and crooked as it gets. The trial cracked me up, pointing out the total incompetence of the investigation. The judge was also a dick. He hardly remained unbiased IMO.

It's kind of annoying not knowing if he did it or not. Hopefully one day it comes out what really happened.

I did the same several weeks back. Hard not to binge watch that whole thing.

I agree with NZ, I think odds are he did it, but certainly doesn't change the fact that it was a messed up investigation and the DA is off in a number of ways. I've looked into it more and people suggest there are key things left out of the documentary that help lead towards verdict. Plus that family is creepy and not normal, no way around it.

Like jpl I can't help but feel sorry for Brendan. He was a minor with serious mental impairment, sucks that he got caught up in the whole situation whether he was actually involved in a murder or not.

    I saw star wars.

    Almost fell asleep.

And are they ever going to film movies in 3d again or is it always shitty conversions now? Guess I'll wait another 5 years for avatar 2 to see a good 3d movie again.

What amazes me, was Brendan's lawyer essentially working for the Avery prosecution. Sure, plea deal probably was the best option for Brandan. In a town like that he was guilty before he even went before the courts. But still, what went down with that weasel looking lawyer of his and the way he handled himself was mind blowing. He comes off as a real putz, and deserves it.

I also felt the whole time I was watching it, that it was leading me to support Avery. Whether it was leaving key parts out, or deliberately getting me emotionally invested in the wrong people. Either way, it was easy to hate the cops from the very beginning after seeing how vindictive they were in the original rape case, and still don't admit they were wrong. but yeah, every smallish town has their Avery's. My town sure fucking does. And I wouldn't blink an eye if the cops here put a member away for something they didn't even do. I would actually back them.

At the end of the day, I didn't really like Avery. I felt bad for his plight, and if he didn't do it its very sad. But he did chuck a cat on a fire, being an animal person fuck him.

Just wondering B-Rad, what key things did you read when you looked further into things? I would myself, but last thing I need is a Wikipedia binge on a work night.

Never mind, just spent an hour or so reading up. His ex who was on the show thinks it was him. Says he was a piece of shit essentially.

I finally went to see it...there is definitely some of the old magic missing. The setup for the future movies was about as subtle as the interacial coupling about to intergalactically occur. Maybe even inter-species with Chewie and his Wookie boner for the heroine Jediette.
Did anyone catch the Alec Guiness/ Ewan McGregor line in voice over?
The Kylo Ren character made me think of Howard Stern. Was that Gary Dellabate in the "cantina" scene?

One thing I read talked about Teresa receiving calls from someone and complaining about it. The documentary mentioned this, but never really addressed who it might be. The way the documentary was edited it subtly suggested this lead was never investigated and the identity of that person was unknown. But according to what I read (4th, 5th, 6th hand accounts mind you) it was followed up on, and that person was clearly Steven Avery.

I was also surprised to find out Steven Avery had brothers living on the property the same time this whole thing went down, and his brothers had complaints and charges against them for sexually harassing behavior towards women. Steven Avery has a theory out now that one of his brothers did it, which if it wasn't Steven Avery then a theory accusing his brothers would be the next most logical thing, but it felt strange that they weren't mentioned in the documentary (at least not that I remember). I heard there were agreements with the Avery family to not mention certain things in exchange for their cooperation with the filming.

I don't know how much points towards or away from Steven Avery, but it's clear the documentary had an agenda and if things didn't support that agenda they had little problem leaving it out.

It was hard not to get wrapped up in it while watching it though. I felt bad for Steven Avery the whole way through. After decompressing from it, now I feel more upset over not knowing exactly what happened. I still think the cops and investigators are bad at their jobs, the DA is a POS, and that lawyer for Brendan can work as a Disney villain if the lawyer thing no longer works out.

i had interest but after hearing it was only a partial rendering of the actual story i passed
so tired of agenda oriented entertainment but its especially egregious when its called a true story or a documentary
it seems that non agenda based journalism/entertainment/whatever you want to call it just doesn't exist anymore

If you look at it from the perspective of the showing the gaping flaws in your judicial system, it is in fact a solid, accurate documentary. Remember, Avery spent 18 years behind bars, for something that he clearly didn't do in 1985. You dislike the police and almost immediately, because they locked up an innocent man. It's hard not to immediately side with Avery. Truth is, the police and prosecution were easy to dislike, perhaps easier to dislike than Avery and knowing he's probably guilty. You're not forced to feel it, honestly. At the end of the day it's not a Steve Avery documentary, him and his cases are simply the best way to portray s broken system.

yeah its a broken system for sure but its all we've got and still beats most any other judicial system i have knowledge of
which doesn't mean one doesn't exist somewhere in the civilized world or someone doesn't think there is a better one
not making excuses for lazy, shitty police work
but it sure beats fighting it out in the streets which i fear the momentum has headed here
imo political judges w an agenda are even worse than lazy police work because typically the police have their work disseminated and a judge is empirical
from everything I've heard about this the guy was guilty and while i know it doesn't cover the bases in all cases, don't get involved w the law
pretty sure most of us here have limited exposure to jail and police as well as being sentenced
maybe I'm the worst offender and i can relate it directly to my own responsibility and stupidity
the fact that he ultimately got punished applies to the laws of his own karma and is less of an indictment of the entire system
that said i will probably watch it when i can take a break from masturbation

Apples and oranges really. But the only things I admire about your judicial system is your extreme sentencing for violent crimes. Life doesn't mean life in a lot of other systems. Probably get 20 years here max. I also like that you guys can try youths as adults. I was well aware of my choices in life by 12. Kids here are clicking they are essentially invincible until the hit 17 which is the legal age to be tried as an adult.

However, the ambulance chasers, the OJ's, the Chris Browns, the Bruce Jenner's, the incessant suing for stupid fucking things. Corporations ability to hire lawyers and tie things up in court for years. Roger Clemens able to purger himself... Hospitals more worried about lawsuits than patients. I know, I just threw in a whole lot of stupid blanket statements, but yeah. Like with just about every other western country, we are overexposed to American culture through programming. From what I've seen your legal practices are possibly the worst in the western world. I would say I'm working class, and I would absolutely hate to be caught up in any aspect of your system.

But yeah, like with anything, I bet you some place like Denmark or Sweden has the best system in the world. Them and their rehabilitation and stopping reoffending shit. I'm more of an eye-for-an-eye kind of guy.

yeah eye for eye is over a long time ago
my point was you can choose to be involved in the legal system to a certain degree
i could give a fuck what happens to criminals but you would be surprised how short the sentences have become due to activist judges and an over burdened system full of low level drug offenders
