My first product for sale will be Rancher Rube's Redneck Rib Rub.
If I get 10 preorders I will go mix up a batch when I get home.
And include my secret recipe of 7 herbs and spices.
That is 7 spices like sweet basil, spicy mustard, aged paprika, smoky sassafras, white pepper because its for rednecks, etc....
And 7 herbs like purple nepal, white widow, amnesia haze, hindu kush, blue dream, chocolope, sour diesel, etc..
Guaranteed to raise your rib rack sky high!

I guess now that the cuffs are off, the Dodgers are the favorite to sign the #1 prospect in the upcoming July 2nd signing period, yet another catcher, Diego Cartaya.

    https://www.mlb.com/news/2018-top-30-international-prospects-list/c-273511500?tid=151437456

Makes you wonder what they think of the current crop of catchers, Ruiz being 19, Connor Wong turns 22 next month and Will Smith is 23. But I guess when they say he has advanced skills behind the plate and an advanced hit tool for being 16, you find a place for him.

Seems like we've had more luck with domestic prospects lately and have fallen short on big international signings (thinking Guerrero, Arubauena, Olivera). Then again, I have a selective memory...Ryu and Maeda have been very good but they were established, big-league ready guys.

Loons’ Nick Yarnall named Midwest League Player of the Week
By Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 18 minutes ago

For a second time in as many weeks, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a Minor Leaguer earn recognition for his performance, as Nick Yarnall of Low-A Great Lakes was named Midwest League Player of the Week for games played April 16-22.

Yarnall started in five of the Loons’ six games during that span, going 11-for-22 (.500 batting average) with a .522 on-base percentage and .708 slugging. He had two home runs, eight RBI and one walk in those contests, though Great Lakes was a disappointing 1-4.

Overall this season, Yarnall is hitting .348/.423/.587 with two doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in 12 games. He leads the team in home runs and RBI, and is second in on-base plus slugging percentage (1.010).

The 23-year-old first baseman is in his second stint with the Loons. In 37 games with the affiliate last season, he batted .217/.336/.392 with seven doubles, one triple, four home runs and 15 RBI.

The Dodgers selected Yarnall in the 35th round of the 2016 Draft out of the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to the Loons, he’s spent time with the Arizona League Dodgers and Ogden Raptors.

Tulsa Drillers right-hander Justin DeFratus was previously named Texas League Pitcher of the Week to start the 2018 season.

They say you never draft for need in baseball, and the same holds true for signing prospects... especially a 16-year-old prospect. I wouldn't read anything into it.

Weren't they thinking of sliding Ruiz to 3B?

Edit: Remember when Grady Little would play Jeana Martin at 3B?

Remember Chad Billingsley had 11 WAR in 3 seasons and then died?

Poor Billingsley. He got a lot of crap on here but was pretty good. If he was as good as everyone wanted them to be, he would have been Clayton Kershaw.

    Oh well.

Wow, Cartaya has taken a jump up the charts. I don't think the team will be blowing away their Int'l money again this year like they did in the past. They have been on Cartaya for over a year now and has been training at their facility in the DR or maybe somewhere in VZ, though I don't know if they have anything there. If the org was blowing down the walls again, I would bet we would see their fingerprints all over the Top 30, but that isn't the case. It will be interesting to see what the new guys can do without restraints. Remember, the Int'l Scouting department was quickly relieved of their duties after the big signing period. The new crew has done a good job of finding sleeper prospects with minimal funds.

Even more so when Ruiz has a couple holes in his game that could become issues if he doesn't continue his meteoric rise. The grab for catchers is increasingly interesting to watch with this regime. They have shown no willingness to consider moving these pieces, but they have amassed Grandal, Barnes, Farmer(only holdover), Smith, Ruiz and Wong. After the loss of Grandal, none of these guys are destined to be free agents before 2023 and all they're doing after losing Grandal is replacing him with the top Int'l FA. That is being INCREDIBLY loaded with above average depth at a position that carries great value. It will be interesting to see if once Cartaya is signed and Grandal does or does not leave, the team maybe uses these guys as expensive pieces in a deal. I look at the way they are doing this and can't help but think the are in a way following the mold the Cubs did where they drafted and traded for top end IF talent, then dealing guys who get blocked once a star finally locks down the position ahead of the prospect.

After the Alvarez/Diaz/ Heredia/Britto/Estevez signing period. The Dodgers Top 30 is currently littered with guys that they signed in 14' and 15', but the rumor is that the AF regime was really not pleased with them after the 15' class.

He deserved a lot of it.

Infamous for his 5th and 6th inning implosions. Should have been a solid #2 behind Kershaw.

So perfect for this era of baseball pitchers.
In 2017 Billingsley would have been a near max contract type of guy.

I guess the question is is Alex Wood our new Chad Billingsley?
