One week later and he is your Cal League MVP for the week. There is a lot of chatter about this kid in that he has been pretty impressive thus far. Rough start, but has really caught fire since.

    Around the Org
    - OKC is just not that interesting now with most of the intriguing guys up with the big club or hurt.
    - Dennis Santana is making a case that he should not be in AA much longer. His sinker is filthy and I am wondering if some of his high walk games can be attributed to umps not being able to track the pitch well. I've seen some of this in his past starts.
    - DJ Peters is cooling off a bit, but still impressing. K #'s are starting to creep up while also in a HR drought.
    - Yusniel Diaz has finally started the year in AA and has just fucking raked. 1.206 OPS in 9 games with 2 bombs.
    - Yadier Alvarez has surrendered just 1 hit in his last two starts.... he has also walked 9 in those 6 innings.
    - Cristian Santana has turned on the gas and belted 3 HR's this week after I called him out. Many peg him as the next helium candidate in our system.

That's the thing, he is not all or nothing right now. The K's are creeping up, but he is still getting on base by more than just walking. The Texas League is not hitter friendly, so him doing this well so far is very positive.

Got an update from a MILB Blogger on a few guys that have not been seen yet this season.
    - Edwin Rios was down with an undisclosed injury for a couple weeks there, not sure if he's playing in game situations yet.
    - Morgan Cooper developed a sore shoulder ramping up in spring, and given the TJ history imagine they're going to be sloooow with him. Should be starting to throw again.
    - Think we'll probably see Dustin May fairly soon unless there's anything physical that I haven't heard about. He threw 130-something last year, imagine they'll want to look to bump that marginally this season.
    - Mitch White had some fatigue in instructs last year and missed some time with a toe injury during the season, but was sitting mid-90s (t98) in XST a couple weeks ago. Imagine he's not far off from debuting either.

Mitch White(Cutter/Slider) and Dennis Santana(Sinker) are two guys who if this team is in the hunt down the stretch could be big bullpen additions as both possess a +/near++ anchor pitch. Not to mention potentially Julio Urias as well, though all 3 are very wishful thinking.

Good stuff. I haven't followed the minors for a few years so it's good to see these posts.

What's the deal with Jaren Kendal? Wasn't he a college junior when he was drafted in the first round? Seems like he has been a huge project. Striking out a LOT.

They have COMPLETELY rebuilt his swing and he has not adjusted well. People are still high on him as there is a lot of ability there and he is an incredibly gifted athlete, but this is looking like a longer term project than many expected. Since he's an OF'er anyway, the team has time to wait.

Caleb Ferguson (the top Lefty in the org) is off to a flying start, building off of his 2.87 ERA and 140 Ks in 122 1/3 innings. He has allowed 1 earned run in 27 1/3 innings with 28 Ks.

Turns 22 this summer, mid-rotation ceiling.

I doubt if he has any real value, being that he is like #6 among SPs in the org (certainly behind Buehler, May, Santana, Mitchell White and for the moment Alvarez).

Oh no doubt he wouldn't be the centerpiece. Just sounds like a nice high upside guy as the 3rd or 4th player in a trade for Machado.

I have been doing some digging on Ferguson since the reports on him leading up to this year have been very "meh" even with his great numbers. I always held some interest as it is hard to ignore the numbers that he has posted in the past, but this year he is off and absolutely ROLLING. The word on him before was always that his velocity wasn't really there, but his stuff had a lot of movement to it. Last year he saw a big tick up in velocity, but the stuff wasn't as special as it was before. I am reaching to find out if anything has changed and will report back with my findings.

    - In other absolutely rolling prospect news is that Gavin Lux is fucking crushing in HiA now. I should say he is crushing, though not really hitting HR's, he is finding the gaps with more regularity than he has in the past and is maintaining a relatively low K% which he is matching at a near 1:1 rate with walks. His numbers are a bit inflated right now after four 3 hit games in his last seven, but his numbers on the season are .343/.443/.471. I am not a fan of drafting high on guys from northern states as they are usually much further behind in development than southern state players and have huge bust factors, but the upside in those players is usually much higher than scouts can anticipate. A SS emerging in the system now as a legit first division prospect would be a huge boost to the org.

For all the shit that has gone wrong this season with the big club, at least the guys who have been called up and the clubs top spects down in the minors are all mostly off to good if not better than you could ask for starts. Of the clubs Top 16 prospects from MLB.com, you could argue that 4 are not off to good starts (Ruiz, Alvarez, Kendall and the still missing Edwin Rios who crushed in spring). Going through the Top 30, it appears that the club has decided to hold back a fair amount of guys in XST.

    - Mitch White and Dustin May made their first starts this week which suggests they were fine, just the team held them back to maybe work on things in XST and I feel that they held White out as many believe this is the year that he gets a big league shot if he can stay healthy. He could be important to the bullpen if the club is able to turn things around.

    - I have been ignoring Rylan Bannon thus far as the knock on him has been his offense potential, but he is hitting the shit out of the ball in HiA this year. He is generally regarded to as an above average defender, but the moves around the diamond seem to be getting to him a little bit. It will be interesting to see how he continues to do in HiA this year, but that .282/.377/.609 with 9 HR's for the year after a 3-21 start is pretty impressive.

Santana had another really good start last night 6IP, 5H, 1R(ER), no walks and 11Ks.

I didn't notice this before, but I guess they finally gave up on Sborz being a starter, many felt he was destined for the bullpen, he's been lights out (for the most part) over 13 appearances, striking out 24 and walking 5 in 16 1/3 innings.

Would be nice if they could both get some big league work in August & September in preparation for 2019.

We had a little discussion about Sborz earlier on in the season. Besides a two game stretch(looks like he was just out of whack) he has been damn good and as you pointed out, his K's have taken a jump. I have not heard anything about how his stuff has looked since the transition, but I would love to get an update on him.

    Dustin May had a strong 2nd appearance for Rancho, 5IP, 6H, 0R, 1BB and 9Ks.

Yet another strong start for Ferguson, 6IP, 5H, 1R(ER), no walks and 8Ks.

Sborz was promoted to OKC and debuted the same way he left Tulsa, 2IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB and 2Ks.

This is getting exciting as he just seems to be rolling through guys. The AA rotation has a lot of intrigue with Ferguson, Santana and White right now(Alvarez is on the DL). 2 are making early cases that OKC should not be too far away and White isn’t expected to last too terribly long in Tulsa anyway. Would love to get some reports on them as life has been too crazy to watch many games.

A little bit of a moving day. As you already mentioned Sborz got the promotion, as did:
    - Ariel Hernandez, AA to AAA.
    - Jacob Scavuzzo, AA to AAA(this may be temporary)
    - Nick Yarnall, LoA to HiA(I think it was his poster day at GL)

One other pitching performance of note was Tony Gonsolin went 5 IP, 0 ER, 6 K’s and 1 BB for Rancho. Second start in a row without giving up a run. Could be interesting if he starts to figure things out with the velocity increases he saw last season.
