I was mostly kidding since the projection had us winning 4 straight World Series and losing the 5th, but yeah there would be almost no chance of that happening this day in age.

    idiot marlins
    glad we didn't buckle

    Jon Heyman ✔@JonHeyman
Most others in on Realmuto were willing to surrender 1 big piece but
not a 2nd big piece. Marlins sought 2 of May, Lux, Ruiz and Smith from
LA (after it was clear Bellinger was going nowhere)

Y'know, looking at Bruce last year, I thought he liked tired and fed up with it all...guess not.

I was just writing about this...The Marlins were all over the map with different teams in what they were asking for in Realmuto talks. They had dropped the asking price to the Dodgers of 2 of May, Lux, Ruiz and Smith. Based on what the team is rumored to think of Ruiz and May, I'm not surprised here. That they could have presumably built a package around Lux and Smith, yet chose not to is the curious part(now, they could have been asking for either May or Ruiz as headliners still and paired from there, who knows?). If that was on the table and they said no means that this team is probably very very high on Gavin Lux going forward. This FO is batting 1.000 on the untouchable prospect meter, so let's see what this dude has in store for 2019.... Also, I guess Verdugo's star really has dimmed.

Never saw Verdugo as anything more than a potential 3 win guy, probably his ceiling. Obviously has some qualities worth adding to the team though. Just can't see him topping out at more than Ethier level overall value. Add in the history of some attitude issues, whether he's gotten over them or not, fair or unfair, teams are going to use that to downgrade him. Especially teams with young rosters that are trying to build a culture. He should stay put anyway

Tigers almost had 8-10 more potential suitors for Miggy. DH denied
Might've been fun to see him slug his way out of DET

He would definitely be worth it under those projections. Putting up 44.3 War and 4/5 WS titles in 7 seasons is special. Yes please

Dennis Eckersley silences Bill James over Frank Robinson tweet
by Darren Hartwell | NBC Sports Boston — 8 February 2019

Dennis Eckersley remains an efficient worker in his post-retirement days.

The former Boston Red Sox closer apparently took issue with Bill James' tweet Thursday night about Hall of Fame player/manager Frank Robinson, who died Thursday at age 83.

And Eck needed just two words to get his message across.

    Dennis Eckersley ✔@Eck43
    Replying to @billjamesonline
    Shut up.
    8:05 PM - Feb 7, 2019

Here's James' original tweet, which he actually deleted shortly after Eck's curt call-out:

    Bill James Online ✓@billjamesonline
By the way, Baseball Reference WAR insists that the most valuable player in the AL in 1966 was not Frank Robinson, but Earl Wilson, a pitcher who was 18-12 with a 3.43 ERA, one point better than the league ERA of 3.44. Look it up. No offense; just thought I would mention it.

James, officially listed as the Red Sox's senior advisor of baseball operations, is an outspoken supporter of sabermetrics and advanced analytics in baseball, so this tweet isn't necessarily out of character.

    Bill James Online ✓@billjamesonline
My point about Robby, of course, is that he was a very great player, and the statistical wrinkle which suggests that he was NOT the MVP in league in '66 needs to be fixed. I'm sure that those of you who actually follow me got the point.
    9:17 PM - Feb 7, 2019

    Bill James Online ✓@billjamesonline
My apologies to anyone who thought that this was in any way disrespectful to Robby. Of course that was not my intention.
    9:18 PM - 7 Feb 2019

The immediate aftermath of Robinson's passing might not have been the best time for this discussion, though.

Eckersley certainly felt that way, firing off his first tweet in nearly two months to make his point clear.

KC picks up homer bailey and we pay the 23 million to him
he must be complete ballast at this point or surely we would have given him a chance out of the bp right?

So, to racap: FUCKTARDS PAID him 23MMM just for the opportunity to jettison Puig and Wood? Sounds familiar, like when they PAID Haren to play for Miami, just so they'd take a batting champion from us, in exchange for a utility player, a fading catcher and a gascan reliever???..... and then, they return the favor by trying to fleece us for Realmuto?

    Something ain't right.
