    rats on a sinking ship...
    • Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli are allegedly blaming each other in the aftermath of the college admissions scandal. They reportedly "didn't see how serious" everything was when they rejected their plea deal...and now they face up to 40 years in prison.

It was not a life or death scenario
She allegedly committed fraud and money laundering
For what? Her flesh and blood to get into a POS school like SC?

I don't care if they rot in prison ( or Lori sent to NZ's basement for his punishment- whatever could it be ?), but 40 years for doing rich douchebag stuff, and John Walker Lindh is getting out next month ?
Just seems like something's really, really wrong here.
Being a traitor and an enemy combatant is less serious?

They locked up Martha Stewart for lesser insider trading that 90% of Goldman $achs traders do every day.. they wanted to make an example of her. Now she's making coin again with Snoop Dog and she's a hero to a different crowd
Not at all. I'm guessing that some DA's career arc benefits less from locking up Lindh than Loughlin

The word I'd heard last night was a member of the construction crew was taking a smoke break and was puffing away too close to a bunch of turpentine soaked rags of which the fumes lit and he ran. The reconstruction work on ancient timbers was as dry as a matchstick and went up in an instant.

Does this mean Phillip Morris Altria is partially responsible? Not that they're ever on the hook for anything.

I also read that this steeple was rebuilt in 1860 due to rot issues with earlier wooden members decomposing so that exact steeple itself is 'only' 160 years old.

On a slightly more positive note prior to the recent reconstruction efforts a team had brought in a high resolution Leica camera system on a tripod and digitally documented the entire interior cathedral surface so at least there is a record of what needs replaced / rebuilt.

News reports were saying that all removable artworks made it safely out of the cathedral
Fresco's which were abundant and richly applied.. not so much

Agreed. This is about career paths. You can rise by prosecuting serious, difficult, and substantive cases (ie the hard way), or be the lead in a highly publicized case that gets your name out like Martha Stewart, Barry Bonds, Enron, etc (ie the side door).

You can try to scale or measure a case’s importance in the relative scheme of things all day, but it really comes down to what will advance my career and seems like a slam dunk.

That being said, this Loughlin chick and her entitled slimeball fashion husband are dumber than rocks. They dangled a cush sentence in exchange for a guilty plea.

Instead, they plead not guilty and now face 40. Remember that they committed multiple counts of fraud (including wire and tax fraud), conspiracy to defraud, and it’s a federal case. The laws were not necessarily designed to capture college cheats, but what they did was the same as any Mafia outfit doing the same things to hide, embezzle or money launder their funds.

Whoever told them to plead not guilty should be disbarred for malpractice.

They have audio. They have the head of the operation as the chief snitch, and others invoked pleading guilty that will bend over as fed witnesses the millisecond the prosecutors say “let’s make a deal.”

And all this for two vacuous morons for daughters. I guess the apple does not fall far from the tree.

I’m most worried about the pointed arches along the nave. It looks like a few of them collapsed in the fire. Those will be devilishly difficult to repair and replace. The whole cathedral relies on the combination of the arches, flying buttresses, columns and framing for the thing to stay up. It’s the force of the high ceilings pushing down on the walls which cause an outward force that is then balanced by the flying buttresses pushing inward to counteract this lateral push.

You lose that balance and the walls may want to fall inward. The walls are so thin and punched through with the stained glass, it wouldn’t take much.

Also without a roof, there’s nothing to prevent water and rain from seeping down into the cathedral.

There is a lot of work to do, and quickly.
