If the Dodgers continue on this 104 win pace, they NEED to go for the kill---Invest in the bullpen through player acquisitions and bold changes in "roles".

I'm talking going over the luxury tax to sign Craig Kimbrel AND trading a top 3 prospect + for Felipe Vazquez. And letting Kenley know we're not doing the '9th inning is yours no-matter-what' shit anymore.

Imagine a pitching staff like this in the post...

    Ryu
    Buehler
    Kershaw
    Hill
    Urias
    Stripling
    Floro
    Jansen
    Vasquez
    Kimbrel

and two-three more spots to fill with current guys (Maeda, Kelly, Alexander if they earn it) and emerging arms (May?).

Just go for it. Win the whole damn thing for once this century.

Great post and I agree but I think all they really need is just get Kimbrel and be done with it.
    https://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers-kenley-jansen-craig-kimbrel-20190508-story.html
He will not be so tax busting considering his salary will be prorated for the smaller half of the season and wont cost a pick.
The 8th and the 9th belong to Kenley and Kimbrel.
The rest of the pitchers just need to get through 7 innings.
Dave would often put Kenley in at the 8th and ask him to get a 2 inning save.
Why not make that more of the norm and have Kimbrel get the 8th inning every game and if he is rolling let him start the 9th.
And if he continues to roll let him have the 2 inning save. If he falters Kenley can come in at any time.
When any other pitcher gets the 8th inning and its time for the 9th then Kenley would get his regular turn.
This would allow both players to get plenty of save opportunities while giving the team a great advantage by shortening the game and pacing their relievers.
Who cares who the other relievers are. The team would have a pool of guys to fill the 5th 6th or 7th innings if needed.
That is where the excess starting pitching can come in. Team is stacked with that dreaded depth.
Lineup is pretty set and just waiting for Seager to get back on the cow and Gavin Lux to graduate.

    LF: Joc/Kike
    1B: Muncy/Bellinger
    3B: Turner/Freese
    RF: Bellinger/Verdugo
    SS: Seager/Lux
    CF: Verdugo/Taylor
    2B: Lux/Muncy
    C : Barnes/Smith

Catcher is the only weak link in the lineup. The prospects are doing ok but not great in the minors.
The weak link is vs lefties. Barnes and Martin have both done a good job vs righties but have been horrible vs lefties.
What they can do right now is to bring up Will Smith as he is a specialist against lefties and would solidify the lineup with Martin as the 3rd 'emergency' catcher/mascot.
Every position has an alternate that is as good or better vs lefties with lots of flexibility.
It is a perfect lineup rotation.

Kenley Jansen would welcome Craig Kimbrel to the Dodgers — but not as a closer
    https://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers-kenley-jansen-craig-kimbrel-20190508-story.html

SO sick of this selfish tub of lard. He bitched when Chapman was rumored to be coming here, too. Regardless of if Kibrel comes or not, this guy has always been a soft, fragile POS. Threatened to quit when the Dodgers decided to make him a pitcher. Perhaps his head is what prevents him from coming through when we need him most.

“That’s what I get paid for,” Jansen said. “I get paid for closing ballgames.”

Jansen has converted 12 of 14 save opportunities, but has a career-worst 4.67 earned-run average and is giving up home runs more frequently than he ever has. None of that has made him any more open to accepting new role, even if the Dodgers are positioned to land a reliever of Kimbrel’s ability and track record.

“Why should I have to do anything different?” Jansen said. “That’s my question. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Jansen glanced over at Justin Turner, who was a couple of lockers away.

“Would you tell JT to go pitch?” he said.

Of course, that’s not the same as, say, moving from the ninth inning to the eighth. Or sharing the ninth inning.

“We have the best record in the major leagues,” Jansen said. “It doesn’t make any sense. If something was wrong or whatever, I mean … I don’t see anything wrong right now. The team is doing good.”

Amazing to watch warning track power in April JT morph into JT hitting bombs over the CF wall in May.

Kenley doesn’t get paid to close games. He gets paid to put on a uniform and play baseball. “Baseball” being whatever is needed from him on a given night.

If he wants to get paid to close games, he would need to restructure his contract to be incentive based.

Hill has been great since we traded for him and inning for inning has been one of the best in the NL.
Been clutch in the post, too.
But there's something about him I don't like.
    Maybe it's the HRs

Man, it's like Seager just forgot how to play offensive baseball. Wow.
I think I like Kike at ss and Verdugo in CF right now.

Has one mode. Swing at everything. If he stopped swinging out of the zone so much maybe he’s get better pitches to hit
