Greinke wanted to be with LAD and was well compensated in 2012..why do other top tier FAs have to take a lower AAV and/or less years if the payroll will be under control? They'd better get off the BS and put the money in the bag.

Gerrit Cole getting beat over the head by the Sox and Cubbies in the postseason sticks in my mind. A year and a half ago the thought was, " we don't need Gerrit Cole because Maeda is better. " Yup. And now Cole's on our radar for $180M+?? Believe it when I see it. They've obviously done a good job resurrecting Cole in HOU, but I don't think LAD is replacing Honeycutt with Brent Strom. Cole @ 29yrs old..probably a 7, maybe 8yr deal where he eventually morphs back into meh without Strom. Rather have 31yr old Stras for the next 5 or 6 seasons. But realistically we're probably looking at overpaying Ryu

Looks like all but 1 or 2 of our home games would be on the weekend (if we maintain HFA in the NL and lose it against the AL), which is nice.

Man, the race for best record in MLB is tight. .5 game separates us from NY and Houston.

Unless injuries happen, that Stros starting pitching looks scary.

All of a sudden the Mets are on fire? Winners of 12 of the last 13, I believe. Or maybe it's now 13 of 14 since they won today as well. What is going on? Did they bring up Tebow?

How quickly things can change in baseball!! Rosenthal, Holland, Panik all DFA's or outright released players. Panik was a pain in our asses for so long, too bad he sucks now and no now we have a glut of 2nd basemen. Greg Holland anyone? MAYBE Honey can make a diamond out of a lump of coal. Lucroy clearing waivers and being picked up right away by the Cubs to me is interesting and a good move by ex-boy wonder. Losing Contreras a big blow but Lucroy is capable still.

Just so I understand the new process, any pickup right not cannot be used in the playoffs right?

I’m a Kenta Maeda fan. I appreciate his overall Dodger career, especially because he came at a discount.

But given the state of our starting rotation, including all the various options we have, the time is now to move him to the pen, permanently. HFA advantage through the playoffs is at stake, and the Dodgers can’t afford to not hold on to that.

In his last 10 starts (not including the rain-delayed 2-inning start), here are the pertinent numbers:

    · Only 2 Quality Starts. Sure, QS's are often downplayed because there’s nothing all that special about allowing 3 runs over 6 innings. That makes it even more eye-opening that he’s only had 2 in his last 10 opportunities. Compare that to other starters’ last 10: Kershaw – 8, Buehler – 8, Ryu – 9. Even Hill had 6, and one of his non-QS games was the one he got injured in.

    · He hasn’t won a game since May 31. His record in his last 10 is 0-6. The team is 3-7 in those starts. It’s not like his record is affected by a bad team. On the contrary, it takes an effort to get a team that wins 2 out of 3 on the season to go only .300 when you start.

    · He has reached 6 innings twice in those starts, and 5 innings only in half of them. He’s taxing our BP more than any other starter, including the rookies. Therefore, making him a reliever is a win-win for the pen.

    · 10-start ERA: 5.58

It looks like Ryu is back this weekend. May should stay in the rotation. I’d like to see Gonsolin get another chance to build off of his last start, too. Kenta has proven valuable in the pen before – why not have him help us as a reliever down the stretch and into the playoffs?

I think seeing how much May or Gonsolin play up as relievers is more important than winning 102 vs 105 games. Plus you’d annoy him by basically taking money out of his pocket when he’s gonna be important as a reliever in October. So I disagree.
