CLE is still going to want Lux, even though LAD would be angling to dump Seager elsewhere. Bowden said he's heard negotiations are a nonstarter without Lux being involved

It’d be nice if he could be more like the guy he was in 2017, but that success was also pre-juiced ball. His control issues have really caught up to him in recent seasons and it seems that his mistakes get absolutely pulverized. Really hope that the surgery can help get him some more consistency going forward.

    • Rosenthal had a report late last night that the Brewers COULD be looking to move Hader. My guess is the Brewers floated his name to a couple teams to see what they could get for him in the event things went south during the season. Being that they’re legit contenders and he’s not owed a whole lot of money, it does not make a whole lot of sense to move him now. Don’t be surprised if Stearns comes out with a “we’re not trading him” announcement here soon.
    • Today is the non-tender deadline. There should be a few trades throughout the day. Reports were that expectations were that a bunch of dominoes were about to fall and that it would happen after Thanksgiving. There was a lot of movement on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, so not sure if that was what those reports were referring to, but it’d be nice to get some of this shit moving.
    • Yimi Garcia is now considered the Dodgers only non-tender candidate.

    • Mike Moustakas going to play 2B for the Reds on a 4 year, $64M deal. The Reds could be a very interesting team this next year as they have solid pieces all around the roster. Moose has been an above average offensive player for most of his career, but had never developed the big time power that folks projected for him coming up. Over the last 3 seasons, he has hit 101 HR's and has shown an ability to play multiple positions capably. He was considered the 3rd best 3B FA behind Donaldson and Rendon. This deal probably sets the bar a decent bit higher for Donaldson as he is the significantly better player, though he is 3 years older.
    • The Reds also DFA'd Jose Peraza which is not really news as he has been terrible.
    • The Reds are said to still be incredibly active right now and are expected to keep on spending this offseason.
    • The Padres acquired Jurickson Profar from the A's. He too will play 2B for the club and could be an interesting buy low candidate. His overall numbers were weak last season after a breakout 2018, but he had an .821 OPS in the second half of the year. The former #1 prospect has never come close to reaching the heights that many had projected due to numerous injuries, but he has turned himself into a solid player. If he comes out and plays like he did in the 2nd half or like the guy in 2018, the Padres may have put together one of the better infields in the game in a little under a year.
    • The Mets are reportedly near the top of their budget already and do not have room for a big time FA or trade acquisition. So add them to the list of teams that are not likely to do much this offseason unless they start trading away some dudes.
    • The Blue Jays are said to be very active in the first month of the offseason. They reportedly had the second highest offers for Grandal and Kyle Gibson, while having the best multi-year offer to Odorizzi before he took his QO.
    • The Twins are said to be taking a very slow approach this winter. They have not yet jumped in on any FA's, but are expected to make runs at the top 5-6 pitchers on the market.
    • Charlie Culberson has been DFA'd in a somewhat surprising move.
    • It should be to no ones surprise that the Mariners are reportedly open for business. Mitch Haniger and Omar Narvaez are supposedly garnering a lot of interest. The asking price for Haniger however, is said to be incredibly(almost unreasonably) high for a guy who missed more than half of the season. The Dodgers were linked to him after his impressive 2017 as a platoon partner for Joc and whether they would still be at this point is unlikely. Narvaez is probably more interesting for an AL team that can use him as DH/backup C since he is pretty bad defensively.
    • As I mentioned last week, rumors are continuing to swirl that Zack Wheeler has a big offer, but now word is that he likely has multiple offers over 5 years and $110M. He was projected in the 80-90's range before the winter.
    • It has been leaked that the Nationals reported 7 year $210M offer to Anthony Rendon was HEAVILY backloaded to the tune of over $80M coming after the contract expired. It is being said that Rendon has no interest in such a deal and is looking for something without or at least minimal deferrals. The Nationals are said to be becoming less and less optimistic in their beliefs that they will be able to retain him.

Dodgers won't part with 6 years of Lux for 2 years of Lindor unless he signs a reasonable extension and I would bet that the Indians won't consider moving Lindor without a return built around at least a top 30 overall prospect. They probably could have worked something out around Ruiz had he not gotten hurt and continued his nice start at AAA. For now though, the Dodgers are stuck in a position where a ton of teams don't value Ruiz all that highly anymore due to his poor numbers in AA while others still think he has star upside. Lux being viewed as a Top 5 prospect in baseball probably means that they have no intention to move him and the Kluber thing is not necessarily a great add-on either. He was mediocre to start the season and then that injury probably only made things worse as we really don't know what he is anymore. His FB is down 1-2 ticks from his prime years and he has gotten shelled in his last couple of postseason appearances. So is he still worth a premium price? Probably not at this present moment and I would say not worth the risk unless the Indians sell low. I probably would not have a big problem with a Lux for Lindor deal, but like I said, I don't think the Dodgers would be willing to do that deal. If it was Lux, I would say him, Stripling, Rios and like a Rooney or R Ortiz for Lindor. That is a lot of value for Lindor and he damn well better sign an extension. I'd prefer that they move Seager and use those pieces to nab Lindor.

Strasburg reportedly met with the Dodgers last week and is meeting with other West Coast teams this week.

Believable. He was definitely at the Clippers/Rockets game sitting court side

    Let's guess the offer..2years/$100M, $80M deferred

Good point, forgot about that. If he is all for the Clippers, than he probably is Angels bound, haha. The Nats are offering all sorts of deferrals(per usual) in their offers to Strasburg and Rendon. It will be interesting to see if some team can come in and just offer normal payoffs and cut them out. Only teams that I think could do that at this point are the Phillies, Yankees, White Sox, Dodgers and MAYBE the Angels. Otherwise these guys are probably looking at heavy deferrals.

Or San Diego given the Clips' ties there, but nah. No surprise that the Nats are in the deferral business again, we had a discussion on that front a little while back. Scherzer has " set the standard " and now they're gonna try and get other talented guys to follow him. Knew there had to be something going on with Rendon's $210M offer. 30 year old non-Boras guy is usually taking that offer and running

Players are becoming less enamored with those deals now as the present day value gets reduced. I'd be interested to know just how much it really matters between $10M today or $10M in in 2029 for these guys in the grand scheme of things.

In regards to Kluber, I don't think a fractured arm diminishes his ability. Any trade will, as you say, have to involve selling low. Hence my offer of Lux, Joc, Gonsling and another piece.

In regards to Ruiz, I'm sure scouts see him exactly as to what he is. An elite catching prospect that has a great eye, elite hand speed, a consistent swing path and very good defensive mechanics. A half of season of sub typical batting average doesn't change that. That skill set in a catcher is a scouts wet dream. It SHOULD be the Dodgers dream because it's essentially a choice between a guy who will likely be solid in Smith and a guy who's floor is solid and his ceiling is that of a superstar. Keep them both.

Thanks for the dialogue. I love talking prospects.

$10 million today is worth $20 million in 2029, with a 7% annual return (but an 8-10% return is more likely)

I am just going to keep editing this as the night goes on as there are going to be a lot of announcements throughout the night. Some interesting names are hitting the market.
    • Dodgers signed Barnes to a 1 year deal for 1.1M. He was projected for 1.3.
    • CJ Cron was Non-Tendered by the Twins
    • Addison Russell was NT'd by the Cubs. Fuck that D'bag, but I am sure the Astros will be happy to give him another shot.
    • The D'Backs have NT'd Steven Souza Jr and Taijuan Walker. That latter part is a bit of a shock and an intriguing arm has been added to the FA market. Souza has been a total bust after his big 2017.
    • The Mariners NT'd Domingo Santana and Tim Beckham
    • Blake Treinen has been NT'd. This will be interesting. The dude is a year removed from being one of the most dominant pitchers in the game.
    • Kevin Gausman was NT'd. He was gonna be owed a decent bit, but there is some belief that he could be serviceable with the right org.
    • The Phillies NT'd Maikel Franco and Cesar Hernandez. Bummer about Franco, I think he was solely responsible for like 2 of our wins last year against them.
    • MVP vote getter Kevin Pillar was NT'd by the Giants.
    • Travis Shaw was shown the door by the Brewers.

ahh... I didn't even think about what the right money person could do. Yeah, now I get why it is even worse.

Actually, yeah, CLE can keep Kluber. He can continue to break down on their watch, fuck adding another oft-injured arm.

If CLE wants Lux for Lindor (and they do), simply strap Pollock and/or Kenley to the deal. That's a solid place to start. Time for them to be creative in order to get impact deals done..not look for reasons not to deal.

Honestly, reports on Ruiz are very mixed due to his heavy contact oriented bat. That is why some teams love him and others don't(the Pirates for one did not think he was worth trading the pedophile for). I agree that he is worth holding on to, especially now with the 26 man rosters that will likely bring in 3 catchers. Still, I think a guy like Ruiz should be able to be a centerpiece for a guy like Lindor, but it does not seem like the Indians think the same way.

And players don't want this to become a trend either..20-25 top guys across the league on deferred contracts. Who does it help? Those that don't need help.
