are they going to arrest business owners that don't follow the shut down?
sounding like malaria meds can help and the actual virus is pretty fragile
    i'm w huh? and Rube
this is going to go down as one of the biggest frauds to have been perpetrated on the people
china needs a good bitch slap fiscally and we need to become more self reliant
say it all the time, these assholes in the political elite have lead us to a bad place
too many people are being harmed by the policies of a few
and the only people they care about is themselves
angrier than i've ever been w these so called leaders

“This is not a request—this is an order,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Try me, you piece of shit.

Also, when did he become the emperor of the entire county?

    You guys.

This board is a great source of baseball talk and music and other really awesome stuff.

And I have avoided the Politics thread because more often than not I do not agree with your political or social takes.

But this talk about the Chinese and Northern Italy, with no proof, the hate toward self quarantine, this is not what I really want to take part in anymore.

My family is full of doctors and genetisists, and people who have dedicated themselves to public and private medicine and research, and this is just not the response I expected on this board.

I've decided not to post here from now on. It is just too difficult to read the things being said here, and it has gotten to the point where the joy I get from reading and responding to the madness on the board just isn't worth it given what I am currently reading in this time.

For everyone here, be safe, take care of your loved ones, and I hope you will all be okay. Chances are you all will be.

    Adios amigos. Peace.

I think you may be right.
In the fact that we are venting a little loudly over what is going on.
We all are dealing with this situation our own way. And we all come from different personal situation.
We are not all from families full of experts.
So understand that our point of view will not be from the same vantage point as that of your family and friends.
I understand why you guys believe what you believe.
I personally wish you don't leave.
And that you don't take our frustration against us.
    This will pass.
If you leave I hope you come back.
Once baseball starts back up at the very least.
Because if one of us here gets sick or one of our loved ones you will want to be around to share your support.
That is part of what this guild is about.
    Politics, Sports, Religion, etc...
    All roads lead to rome.
And rome is whatever it is when we rhyme.

I don't think anybody has a hatred for self quarantine and I imagine all of us are taking common sense measures to keep ourselves and others safe. I've avoided group gatherings, I've cancelled appointments, used video conferencing and other things public officials and doctors have suggested.
But we still have to make our living and the mayor of Los Angeles isn't going to "order" me to completely shut down. "This isn't a suggestion. It's an order"
    Nope.
We will see about China's culpability and the repercussions

What about Trump’s culpability? He had every opportunity to prevent and/or mitigate the spread of this virus. He failed and continues to fail. He treated it as a hoax which many of his followers still believe it is. Now people are needlessly dying due to his lack of leadership.

All the bioweapon talk is just that, talk. Nobody knows anything right now.
The blame that Trump seems to be suggesting is that Chinese officials knew about how virulent this Corona type was and failed to tell the international community. And his response reflected the information he was getting.
I don't know the validity of that.
But we all know for sure that none of us here in the US knew that it was as bad as we know it to be now.
The current standard is not to be in groups of more than 10 people.
Folks are out on the road, going to work, etc...
Only people that can afford not to go to work are politicians, the affluent, and professionals.
Employees have to go to work.
Unless demand is low which is why most establishments are cutting staff.
Social distancing does not apply to call centers though and IT workers because cubicles protect you i guess.
I had an organ found with cancer last may and was told to have surgery in december to remove it by the cancer doc.
    I put it off.
    Bad move.
Now they stopped taking elective surgery.
Wait, does that count as elective if I elected not to get it done right away?
I don't know but my point is back to what Gebbeth was talking about.
A lot of us here are older people and some people have health issues that we don't all know about.
Part of being thoughtful of the older and the sick is to understand that they deal with grief or trouble differently than younger or healthier people.
    Sometimes you can freak out.
Not because you are weird but because there are chemical changes going on in your body that trigger you in ways special only to your situation.
Everyone gets triggered by one thing or another.
And we need to be cool with peoples triggers as long as they arent forcing them on you.
    Different socioeconomic groups react differently.
We form guilds and we don't always all feel exactly the same within the guild.
Thats ok because thats not really the point of the guild.
Just that like we have to think about not infecting older and sick people... we can't exclude them from our lives.
Most people will get the disease. That seems to be the facts coming down.
Self quarantine if you are sick is obviously the right way to go.
    But its self quarantine.
It stops being self if someone compels you to.
    Most of us will comply.
Only a few Americans will refuse to comply if they are not sick and are forced.
I don't know if people here who say they won't comply will feel that way when/if it happens.
    That is a tough situation.
But what will happen if you don't comply?
    Will you be shot?
Arrested... arent they gonna release non violent offenders at that pojnt?
Unless refusing to comply quarantine/curfew orders is considered inherently violent.
Nobody that I know is against self quarantine for the sick.
Nobody that I know hates the chinese people for this.
It is not racist for us to lament the poor conditions of the chinese government encouraging the farming and commerce of wild and obviously unclean animals for the use of public consumption by anyone other than folks in dire situations that have to eat whatever they can catch.
Every country has obvious flaws, but this flaw of the Chinese government is and has always been appalling to most of the world.
And these judgements are not racist.
Im not even sure if they are facts.
But they are true which is more important.
Nobody is saying not to eat chinese food. (well maybe skip the bbq pork)
    That would be fucked up.
Just get take out and skip the buffet.

Wow super insensitive and irresponsible... My wife is an RN and HAS to go to work everyday and you know what, she does it with ZERO complaints. Because she is just that kind of person and ultimately signed up for the job.. so she hours every day and comes home putting hers and our family at risk.

but fools who go out to south beach for spring break or concerts willingly during this world wide pandemic are just flat out irresponsible and foolish. They are doing nothing but putting themselves at risks and everyone else.

hospitals will soon be chalked full of CV patients and resources will be thin. Ventilators and other critical equipment will be few and far between but you know what, fuck the government telling me to stay home and be safe..

Fuck this selfish bullshit. Stay the fuck home

Some guys in here are just fucking incredible. Talking out of both sides of their mouth.

One side- man fuck staying home and listening to the governor blah blah fucking blah

other side- ohh man sorry your family might be affected... stay safe bro!

be a responsible citizen and stay home...do your part and be cool man. It’s just flat out dumb to me. I’m on conference calls all day discussing how to protect our population from this and then come in here and read absolute garbage.

I know we all talk shit and I’m always talking shit. But seriously? Be a fucking grown up.

    Its ok man.
Your conference calls have you all worked up.
If shit gets bad you and your family can come up to the mountain.
Because what you are missing is that when the government says shit like this there will always be people ready to test the governments resolve.
Not anyone here, but people with their own set of issues and grudges.
Unfortunately what those people are ultimately dealt with you end up with a sort of martyr in the eyes of many.
And then in the climate we are entering you may have a situations where girls gone wild.
    Like during the LA Riots.
I am not a metals guy by nature but I used to sell metal and metal accessories for a few years recently.
And I met a lot of good people there and many had a certain view when it comes to this kind of future.
Folks want to protect their family and property.
And while nobody expects the hunger games to break out... folks getting ready just in case the toilet paper games become a happening.
Either way the mountain is game.

What, you think I'm spring breaking in a speedo on skid row?
Nobody said they wouldn't listen to the Governor. I'm on board with the suspension of major events and limiting social gatherings to almost zero. I think the handling of this crisis by the politicians I normally despise has been mostly inoffensive and competent (although I still have suspicions).

But he claimed that 25.6 million people in CA will be infected by the virus over an 8 week period (55ish percent of the population!) and made an unenforceable order based, partly, on that asinine prediction.

Nobody I speak to on a regular basis is unnecessarily going out. I have worked 90 percent from home and have cancelled any and all recreation.

Perhaps I am wrong in thinking the 'stay in your house' orders are not necessary or effective. But I base that opinion on how I've behaved as an individual during this crisis (responsibly)... and I must say it's unsettling to hear orders for people to stop making a living for an indefinite amount of time.

I know most here don’t believe in science, don’t have a background in public health, or quite simply don’t have a brain but come on.

There was MONTHS of data from China and various other countries before the first case was discovered in the US. Everybody knew how bad it was and knew it was coming. Trump chose to ignore the data and the advice of public health officials for his own political gain.

As for @Gabbeth, we'd rather you stay.

With rare exception, this isn't a place that silences or berates fellow Dodger fans for daring to say something others don't agree with. It is so much worse out there on the internet. Try giving an unpoular opinion on Reddit or Dodgers Digest.

A lot of DSP political takes are incompatibile with your beliefs and it makes it hard to enjoy it here. I totally get it..imagine how annoying it is for some of us to turn on ANY mainstream news or entertainment nowadays. Take after take after take after take that we don't agree with. Often times more vile and off base than you perceive us to be. Can't say I didn't consider quitting the Dodgers all together when Roberts popped off about the White House. David Price called his teammates "White Sox" for visiting Trump. That makes it hard for me to root for him tbh. So I get you.

But like me, you came for the baseball. Stay for the baseball, imo. Politically, you have every other institution in the country on your side. What do you need DSP for in that area?

And FWIW, the Politics thread and its spill over into Off-Topic is not representative of every poster. Some of the brightest and best posters share opinions that align with yours. I won't name names, but these are #DSPRoyalty we all love.

    Respect you either way!

I think nurses and doctors and laundryworkers and pantry workers and cooks and cleaners and trash collectors and butchers and farmers and hardware salesmen and all other essential service people are priests. The real ones.
They can work during sabbaths and not sin.
If you dont get what I mean it means that folks that serve and protect the public are not just above the law... they are the spirit of the law.
And they should be allowed to spring break in a speedo listening to skid row.
    The early albums of course.
