We could be days away from another big scandal breaking loose in MLB. The Angels recently fired an employee for providing a mixture to help pitchers doctor up baseballs to get more movement. This guy had been doing it for a long time and feels like a scapegoat and is saying that everyone in the org knew about what he did... Well he is now providing names and messages from players past and present that he has helped and has former players that are vouching on his behalf. He’s already provided info on Garrett Cole and Justin Verlander among others. This comes at an interesting time as Trevor Bauer a year+ ago was trying to say that the Astros PITCHERS were cheating as well by using foreign substances that cause the RPM on their pitches to skyrocket. He said the only way to see such a drastic change overnight was to cheat and use a foreign substance. Than, this season in his FA year, he saw the SAME improvements that these guys did. There’s belief that he used some concoction to help with his spin rate and due to his personality, teams are wondering whether he will go back to his old ways or continue to potentially cheat. Wouldn’t be shocked if MLB sweeps it under the rug, but it could get interesting if it blows up.

There’s no doubt. Coles spin rates went way up allowing him to pitch up in the zone and he was changed as a pitcher.

Verlander threw a pitch with a fresh ball that got fouled off and caught by a fan who later posted a pic of the ball and it had index and middle finger marks in black/ brown coloration plain as day showing his grip. It was tacky to the touch. A few quick searches and you can find it all.

I was posting in the game thread of a World Series game where the Astros pitcher kept going to the back of his hat and you could see black shiny shit all over it. It’s blatant. I think Jomboy later did something on it too.

Bauer definitely used it this year. I’m too lazy but I think there’s some footage or article where he says so.

It’s an open secret that a lot of guys are using some substance to increase spin rate. My guess is it goes nowhere cuz Manfred won’t want another scandal under his belt.

If any of this is true, there is no way it's going to stay hidden. Too many videos, internet sites, super slow mo, digital enhancements, plus too many people involved to keep it a secret too long. We are way past steroids when it comes to visible evidence of cheating.

MLB and Manfred needs to get ahead of the story and then pretend they actually did something about it (even if they really won't).

Would love for the Astros to get nailed again. MLB may have no choice but to pull the WS from them because you could argue the players didn't come clean about other cheating schemes when they had a chance to confess the first time. No more cooperation severance.

Other pitchers names are Felix Hernandez, Max Scherzer, Adam Wainwright, and a bunch of angels pitchers. Angels pitchers were using it wrong I guess though

and fwiw Bauer is already on this article on Twitter raising his hand high how he said it happened years ago while also denying he used any foreign substance

I guess he actually only denied using pine tar, but I mean if 70% or more of pitchers are actually using it than this is much ado about nothing

Bauer has all but admitted to using his own concoction as a way of saying screw you to the rest of MLB.

The only surprising thing about this is that anyone is surprised. I thought this was a well known fact at this point.

So in the midst of the shitty day that was for the organization, a couple of items came out about Lindor, the Dodgers and who they may be targeting going forward.

    • The Blue Jays were the runner up for Lindor according to reports. The Jays were said to have made a better offer of high end talent, but that talent was a bit further away.
    • According to Jeff Passan, the Dodgers were NEVER in on Lindor. If this is true, then it would help the rumor that Seager has told people he has no intention of moving off of SS.
    • Also according to Passan, the Dodgers are not pursuing DJ LeMahieu. They’d love his services, but are apparently not interested in the years or AAV he’s looking for.
    • I had heard this the other day, but now it’s popping up a bit more. Apparently the Cubs asking price for Kris Bryant is VERY HIGH. They want a package centered around a top prospect and would be better all around package than what the Mets just got Linder for.
    • The Dodgers are supposedly very interested in Nolan Arenado, but have been told that there’s no chance of him being traded to the club. They’re supposedly saying that if he opts out, they’ll be all in.
