I’m not sure but if we can’t grab at least one WS in the three postseasons runs we’d have Soto, it’d be a huge failure. We can still pay Trea now and worry about Soto in the future. I like the all in approach, especially given how rare a talent like Soto is available at such a young age. The pitching reinforcements should be coming within as Buehler, Treinen, May, and potentially Duffy return. I think we can get Soto without giving up May. It’d definitely sting to see some of the names we’d give up but this guy is unique.

True. We don’t have the best track record with him but I’d like to think there’s some confidence we can retain him for a long time if we give up what the talking heads predict we’d give up

Yankees get Montas, for garbage, and a rookie high end RP.

I feel like Belli is 100% included in trade talks for Soto.

    Happ/Robertson would be solid

    @JonHeyman
Dodgers have looked at Ian Happ, though as with the Padres that seems like a backup plan to Soto

The worst thing about listening to all the drone about Soto is not how the Padres are the favorite, not how Tatis and he would make spectacular difference for them, which is true...but how they mention constantly that LA does need him, since Turner is hitting FREE AGENCY...said over and over again.
That should not be on the lips of fucking anybody...not a thing at all.

The annual Dodgers postseason choke(when there are fans in the stands) just became a lot more likely.

Preller just made himself Andy's daddy, no matter how you spin it. And they still managed to keep some really good pieces.
Scenario: They let Trea walk, and he winds up with his buddy down south now. Can't let it happen.
Unless Freidman makes some kinda nice, clever secondary trades, SD just blew AF away.

Bell too. That lineup is lethal. The postseason path will be Braves/Padres, Mets(most likely), then Astros/Yankees. Not seeing it

@MLBNerds Padres acquire Soto & Bell:

This is the worst trade I’ve ever seen. It’s sad for the Nationals fanbase.

just lead the league in OPS and ERA and are playing like a machine
i'm fine adding another bat like Happ or Drury and calling it a day
    let's play some games
have to admit it takes balls to go all in like they just did but most times that's a fools bet

i was never in the get soto camp from the beginning so idgaf
soto is a great player no doubt
but if he were to go into the tank (a la cody), then it would have crippled us for years with all we gave up
doesn’t matter to me what san diego did or didn’t give up — we would have had to give up more
still stand by my statement that i'd rather re-sign trea
people might not agree with what i’m about to say, and that’s fine…
the padres improved their offense substantially, but imo…
    — our offense is still better than their’s
    — our defense is better than their’s
    — our rotation is better than their’s
    — our bullpen is better than their’s
    — and most of all… our city, fanbase, organization are all better than their’s
not only that, imagine how good it will feel to knock them out even after everything they’ve done
    fuck san diego
    fuck the padres
    fuck boras
    fuck preller
    fuck the nationals
hell, fuck soto too while we’re at it
    i don’t care what they’ve done…
they’re still 12 games back and haven’t ever proven a thing
    fuck them all
    go dodgers

Not quite. And if you have a shot at getting a generationally great top 5 player, you do it.
Imo, there no downside for the Padres on this at the moment.
We are still 12 games up on them, and as long as we win, they can't take the division away from us.
    Which means: NOTHING.
We'll still have to go through them in post season.
And they have a far superior manager to ours.
    Advantage: SD
