    If Smith is catatonic, is there not a catcher in AAA who can come up for a little while for a shot ? Or is that too risky for this .500 team?

    I keep asking the same thing, but more in regards to OF/SS.

    Regarding catcher, there's Hunter Feduccia who had 23 ABs in ST and put up a 1.179 OPS. Then in AAA... 40 ABs and a 1.329 OPS. Surely worth a shot as a Smith fill-in - unless they feel he can't handle the pitching staff or something.

    Nice. Will be good to get his bat back in the lineup. I don't know how much longer I can look at Heyward in the 5-spot.

    evan phillips was put on the paternity list thursday, was scheduled back yesterday, but has now been moved to the bereavement list

    • Potentially devastating news involving RHP Evan Phillips surfaced on Twitter late on Sunday night following an update on the MLB transactions page. The reliever was placed on the paternity leave list on Thursday as he and wife Elizabeth were reportedly welcoming their first child. Notably, he flew out from LA to Chicago with the team but immediately flew back. Now a report showing he’s been placed on the bereavement list has fans very concerned. The hope is that it was an incorrect designation by someone on the backend of MLB.com but either way, our thoughts and love are with Evan and the Phillips family.

    it happens
    had an employee lose a newborn that was apparently totally healthy
    went to the funeral and it was one of the most intense things ever in my life to witness
    he became a reverend
