Awesome to still have more rumors to talk about. The rotation and 1st base are the biggest holes now. Cliff Lee is older and pricier than he's ever been. He's far removed from his Cy Young days in '08. I know he has a losing record playing on the woeful Phillies. But I would rather have Lee pitch than Fife even though Fife has been a surprise. Lee is a proven winner with post season experience. I know the Phillies would want to trade him because of that contract they gave to Hamels. Ned knows he missed out on acquiring a pitcher at the deadline. This is his chance to remedy that. If ownership gives him the "Do it" then the Dodgers would be a better team with Cliff Lee in the rotation than not having Cliff Lee in the rotation.

Tough one...that contract is ridiculous and it also forces the Dodgers to match it with CK(in other words, gives CK more leverage when he is a FA, because how can we not pay him as much as an old Cliff Lee?). I also wonder if he even wants to come here. He didn't before.
I do not want to pay CK $22.5M per year.

    Yep.

He has significantly outpitched Cole Hamels the last two and a half years.

    CK: 42-21, 2.67 ERA, 603 Ks in 587 IP.
    Hamels: 37-25, 3.02 ERA, 543 Ks in 563 1/3 IP.

As Deion Sanders says, PAY THE MAN!!!!

And that is one of the main reasons the Dodgers should highly consider doing a trade for Lee. Plus his numbers are down because every single player on the Phillies is having a down year. He would win more games on the Dodgers than the Phillies.

CK will cost a lot. But he is worth it. He is still very young and one of the best pitchers in the game. I say pay the man.

When is CK off team control. In a few years, right?

After 2014, but his big extension might come this off-season.

If we are dumb enough to let him get to free agency after 2014, when he will be 26, I see him getting $200M.

If someone claims Cliff Lee (or should I say, "if the Dodgers or Yankees claim Cliff Lee"), I think there's about a 100% chance the Phillies hand him over (if Lee approves).

But if no one claims him he's open game to be traded, no?

It seems more likely to not put a claim on him, then work out a trade where the Phillies pick up part of his salary. But then again, our owners are the guys who just threw an extra billion onto their bid for the team because they wanted to get it over with.

If we have "fuck you money" then lets do it. Either put in a claim for him if someone else does and if not offer Withrow and someone else. make them eat 15-20 M and we have our 2nd ace.

    problem is
    if multiple teams claim him
the team with the worst record gets the bid (i.e. AZ)

I can't see a mid-market team like AZ claiming a guy that they would owe a minimum of $87M.
