No sense of Freidman and how he will go at the team....not at all.
But speaking to a good friend last night, who now lives in FL and has become a Rays fan (originally from NJ) he told me that "I will hate this guy (Freidman)...in a few years, we will not recognize the team, and winning the ultimate is all lip service-- it's all about contract control with him.
If the team does get in the post, it's all a bonus, but making money for the owners is what he is about, so don't get your hopes up. The guy is good at it, and if a player is great, they'll use him until it's contract time, but then he'll just moved on. that's his MO".
I told him that LA isn't FL, and the money is different here, but he assured me, eventually Dodger fans will realize why he was hired. maybe the non-answer to Gonzo about another 1b was telling...he's only the NL RBI leader.
Sounded depressing, and who knows if he's right, but he is a good BB fan/thinker, and has no animosity over him leaving at all...he does have respect for fans of other teams.
Anyway, he's not Ned, and that in itself is something, but as Doughty wrote: why is he still around at all....makes you wonder ? Ned can't win, he's a proven loser, so WTF?
    Anybody see "The Producers"?

Another interesting note. Going back to 2009 the WS winner has been in the top 10 in that stat category

Is it safe to assume that the steriod era came to a rundown around 2008/2009? Mitchell report came out in 2007 and there were still big names getting popped until about 2009. Mannywood.

If so, that might help illustrate the shift in hitting that is actually leading to winning teams. Just a theory of course

Blaming this on the manager is silly. The Royals are in the World Series with Ned fucking Yost as their manager. C'mon.

Not dismissing your friend's opinion, BZ, but this is an entire different situation in LA than Tampa; much like what you told him. They don't reconize their team because they can't spend money to retain their players. Friedman is definitely here to manage our payroll sitiation, but it's more about spending wisely. Just take a look at that awful bullpen and how much those losers are getting paid.

Put it this way, what were the Rays before he was put in charge?

Who should the blame be on? What are the other variables we should be considering seeing as though the true constants through those years are the managers because the players continue to switch teams?

Uhh, the players? I don't really know what the problem is though. The Dodgers had a good offense this year.

    They just didn't execute.

I think there is something to be said about the mental factor. There were plenty of games in the regular season where we just froze or didn't give a good at bat. In the post season, you pull that shit, you're fucked.

The players change. They come and go. Numbers remain. Only constant is management. So, ignore the constant and put emphasis on the changing variable?

On top of that. Are we just going to pretend those stats don't exist?

That's true during the season...we were plain and simple, a bunch of dopes and idiots more than once that's for sure.
But that really didn't happen in the NLDS. We had game 1 won, and the inexplicable, complete meltdown of Clayton kershaw, no matter how much it hurts to say , is what happened. We won another on Kemp's heroics....and had game three in our favor, and a combination of jerkoff Mattingly and unbelievably Kershaw again, just gave it away... just gave it to the Cards.
No matter what we did wrong offensively during the season, I don't think that's why are bridesmaids once again.

I sure hope you're right. I sure do.
But I don't see us as the Rays before they became contenders...that was sort of a building project from the ground up, and it did all gel eventually.
We have at certain positions, the best players money can buy. Already-established pros and vets. It's different...and inexplicable , IMO.
But again, I hope you're right.
The Dodgers have spun out of control, the peak being this post season...it's as head shakingly mysterious as Donnie making, or not making, his pitching changes or his two for ones switches.

I just think it comes down to the players not executing to be honest.

But it wasn't just 4 games. It was the whole season.
Also the stats are showing that the teams who excel at that particular stat are the teams who are winning rings.

Again, a couple pitches located better and perhaps a few moves to the pen and we're not discussing this. But that didn't happen and those numbers do look interesting in relation to offensive production

and that's 2 too many teams with more runs considering the division the Dodgers play in and their talent level. the Dodgers obviously started making their move to catch SFaG in May, but the .760OPS is what they should've been at least close to all year and i'm looking right at almost 4 months in the season in which they weren't even close to that OPS mark and underachieving..almost 4 months in which they didn't score runs at nearly the same rate as they did in May. almost 4 out of 6 months..that's nearly 2/3's the season in which they weren't playing up to their talent, my man. not quite 3/4's like i estimated off the top of my head, but close enough when you consider the level of disgust they brought to the forum every night.

now, here are some stats for you to consider, my man..

LAD's rank in getting base runners home from 3B with less than 2 outs = 18th..below league average with a cushy NL west dominated schedule
    http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2014-situational-batting.shtml

LAD's batting average/OBP% when the opposing pitcher's ahead in the count = .199/.211..below league average with a cushy NL west dominated schedule
    http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/split.cgi?t=b&lg=MLB&year=2014

being ranked 18th in scoring men from 3B with less than 2 outs may disprove their disability to put together pro ABs to you, but to me it displays a lack of fundamentals, a level of selfishness, a mental flaw, all of the above including what you said and etc. overall, my issue is, has been, and remains their inability to do the little things correctly and their lack of fight - shown both by their lack of late game comebacks and their below league average AVG/OBP when they were down in counts to opposing pitchers. this team folded in big spots for the majority of the year..spots where all they had to do were the little things to be successful. mentally incapable. checked out. selfish. fundamentally flawed. and yes..lacking heart. all of the above because they all had a hand in it. there's no way around it.

true..however, i've also been saying that the Dodgers should've had an easier ride based on their division and they obviously played those sad sack NL West teams over twice as many times as anyone else they played. a pathetic home showing for the majority of the year, lack of fundamentals, level of selfishness, etc. cost them the #1 seed in the NL and good chance to knock the Gnats out and now look at how the tables have turned.

sure it did..people just don't remember because Kershaw's struggles stole all the headlines, but Hanley came up to bat and bailed us out getting Puig home after his triple to score the only damn run of the night in Game 3. pitiful. Kemp came up to bat with 1 out and Puig @ 3B and Kemp couldn't sniff simple contact to get Puig home. Hanley had to bail the Dodgers out with a rare feat for himself in 2014 - inside outing the pitch into right field..we rejoiced for our only run of the night even if it was a fluke. Lol

and i'm not even gonna put that instance all on Kemp because before Kemp came up, AGon came up and 1st-pitch popped out for the 101st time during the series.

that's 1 game. we had 3 games thereafter where our hitters produced shit..6 runs over the last 3 games against pitchers that they could've handled, but pitchers who i warned fans of moreso because i know this dummy Dodger lineup.

it was Neshak who saved us from being swept..lobbing one to Kemp with Rojas in the on-deck circle. i don't think anybody watching thought Kemp would get a pitch to hit since Mattingly had lifted Hanley for Rojas. thank God for Neshak.

we only had the last 3 games in our favor because of our pitching. our hitters, who averaged 6+ runs in September, gave us 6 total runs in the final 3 games. pathetic ABs aplenty.

Wow, per Buster Olney Friedman is getting 35M over 5 years, with incentives.

Yeah baby, the the "contract control" my friend was talking about in describing Freidman's approach. LOL.
The incentives come after the owners count up all the asses in the seats money, and that's where the long dust comes in...as if 35M is pittance.
It takes me about 6 years to get that much from social security....

To add on about our division: we were 50-26 in the NLW and 33-33 in the rest of the NL. That suggests we aren't much more than an average team in a bad division. If we can only play .500 ball outside of our division, then it's hard to expect to win when we play the best team(s) out of that group.

Last year we were 37-39 in the NL West and 58-31 against everyone else and it didn't make a difference. We were bad in a bad division and won the NLDS and lost to the Cards
