their owners are tight wads with the cash... unless it's one of their own players

I'd be shocked if he left SanFran and I don't care he's a decent player, nothing great

Panda has been clutch in the postseason we all agree

Arguably fat Uribe has just as good of defense.. hard to believe that two of the fatter MLB players are at 3B and performing quite nicely

So I don't see Panda as so much of an upgrade but in terms of youth...

Were you drunk when you wrote that?

Every Gnat we pick up that is supposed to be good, always sucks. And yes. Juan Urine fits that mold as well.

Besides, we're even better at picking up their shitty guys.

Thank god Ned is making coffee for Kasten now.

No not drunk, just got down with a San Francisco speedball combo before I wrote it.
Juan Uribe fits that mold? OK...
That would include Ned, too right? Boy, everyone thinks he's indispensible in one way or another. Great coffee gettin' guy. better off hiring a chick with a nice ass though, I would think to do that.
Isn't the hiring of Freidman supposed to break all previous molds and traditions that have gone awry in the past....whatever they were/are?
It isn't happening anyway, just like Maddon isn't, despite 50 posts to the contrary.
And how many times does one get a chance to post the phrase "chubbsy ubbsy"? Are you kidding? You gotta take advantge of this shite when available, whether it's valid or not. Seems like a lotta guys here would like the ol' porker at 3b...
Let's just stay with what we have...we won it with those scrubs...maybe we can do it all again. If the Padres rotation gets ebola...and we can always blow it in the post as always, anyway. We go with that option pretty well. No matter who we campaign for to drag through the mud after we do it again. That's what's important.
    No problem.

Tell me this, can the Yankees afford to eat a bad contract easier than the Giants?

Sorry for making you write all that.

Uh...I guess so. But how that relates is a bit murky to me, being one of those old guys who once had a fairly high IQ, but now forgets where I parked my car at the mall. Time and tide wait for no man. Yes, the Yankess have a lot of money, if that's the point.
The Giants do need somebody in their lineup besides Posey, Pence and uh...whoever is hot that week for them. Their formula of riding a great pitcher's arm, like first, Lincecum, then Cain, now Bumgarten, always a very good/great BP, a clever GM who makes wonderful late season pick ups, and the Giant Brain Bruce pushing the buttons is a certainly successful formula...worth three (3!!!!) World Championships.
    Just my tuppence.
And being right about any of this BS doesn't mean jack shit anyway. It does for some...but really, in the end...

My point was in this market attendance is really irrelevant. The Dodgers drew more than anyone in the NL during the peak of the mccunt years but still we were working poor. We handed out 2-3 year backloaded deals because we couldn't compete with the endless coffers of the Sawks and Jankees of the world.

Here is where the gnats will have problems re-signing the fat panda. The market for 3B, is thin as always, frisco has already spoken about their concern over his weight. While he makes the plays that guys his size should not, he still does for the time being. With the AL teams they can use him not just for defense but for his bat. So they will be inclined to offer him longer more lucrative contracts in general. The yankees and red sox simply put, just print money. So my argument is not just about who can offer more, the gnats I'm sure have the financial power to offer him a deal on par with what the yanks and sox will. However, the sf market is tiny compared to those back east and the gnats also don't have the TV revenue that they do either. So in theory who's money is more valuable to them? the yankees, sox or gnats? offering a 6 year 120M contract isn't shit to the yankees but it is very big for the gnats. Lets say pablo adds more weight (as he has before) declines in hitting (as he has before) and his defense slips, where do the gnats go then? They have an overweight declining guy who lost his range, sounds like a perfect candidate for a DH to me.

The yankees and sox both have a need for a 3B and they both have hitter friendly parks. If they are willing to give up the draft pick to sign him, he is as good as gone.

I'm not saying they have this great formula figured out in the bay area, I contest that these teams have been fortunate rather than dominant. As a pure baseball move it would be foolish for the gnats to back up the brinks truck. He really wasn't great in the regular season anyway, so you reward a guy who got hot in the playoffs?

    The yankees will!

giants are tight with their money but will spend when they feel the need (pence)
sandoval is such a big part of that team, i'd be surprised if they let him go
plus he would probably prefer to stay
i think the weight/production is overstated
and i'm not absolutely certain about this, but didn't he play poorly after losing weight?
if a guy like puig were to gain a shit ton of weight it would affect him more adversely
but a guy like panda, who's used to playing at that weight... not so much

Yeah, they have the obese spheroid going to the Red Sox, because he can play 3b now, and replace big PeePee when he retires, Lord make it be soon, so the remote possibility of getting rid of the faggot DH comes up at least in the conscienceness of the BB hirearchy.
They also have the Dodgers not getting the oft mentioned Russell Martin (Rangers), and the only FA we sign is, uh...Hanley Ramirez.
That's the Yahoo page anyway, so we'll see. Pretty meh if it's true.
Oh, and Cubs get everyone as far as arms.

Yeah, it looks as if I was way wrong, as he has declined the Giants offer, and has opted for free agency.
    Chubbsy ubbsy on the move....

He's fat which does not bode well for his future. He's a knee injury waiting to happen BUT .344, .389, .545, .935 in the playoffs. .426, .460, .702, 1.162 in the World Series for his career.

Agent: Pablo Sandoval wants 6 years
    Updated: November 6, 2014, 11:00 PM ET
    ESPN.com news services

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants are planning their offseason around efforts to re-sign Pablo Sandoval.

General manager Brian Sabean and his staff have told free-agent starting pitchers Jake Peavy and Ryan Vogelsong that the World Series champions need time to try to strike a deal with Sandoval before turning their attention to the mound or any other position.

Sandoval is seeking at least a six-year deal, his agent, Gustavo Vasquez, told the San Francisco Chronicle on Thursday.

Pablo is 28. He is still young. Maybe if he was 30 or 31 we could talk about four or five years. But he's 28. He deserves more than that.

Sandoval has spoken to a few teams since free agency began Tuesday, including the Giants, and would "sign fast" if presented an offer he likes, Vasquez told the newspaper.

The Giants made a $15.3 million qualifying offer that the switch-hitting third baseman won't accept by Monday's deadline.

"We've engaged, but I'll leave it at that," Sabean said Thursday. "We're three days in, so that's the best answer I can give."

Giants CEO Larry Baer said his team's payroll will go up after San Francisco's third title in five years and the club will do what it can to keep Sandoval. San Francisco's payroll was $164.7 million at the end of the regular season, the sixth-highest in the majors.

The 28-year-old Sandoval batted .279 with 16 homers and 73 RBIs in 157 regular-season games and .366 in the postseason with seven doubles and five RBIs, including four during a seven-game World Series win against Kansas City.

While the 2012 Series MVP has said he would like to finish his career with the Giants, he will have other suitors and plans to listen.

"We don't have a solution in house so it would have to come from the outside," Sabean said. "I'm not going to address anybody at this time other than Pablo; that's who we're engaged with. It wouldn't be fair to the other guys."

When asked whether he might consider a hometown discount, Sandoval said: "I don't want to talk about that. It's not my job. I've got an agent. He focuses on that. When he's got a deal right, I just want to talk about it."

Sandoval has appreciated seeing the Giants' brass keep other key members of the team, such as signing catcher Buster Posey and World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner and right-hander Matt Cain to long-term deals.

"I'd love to be here," Sandoval said after Friday's victory parade.

The Giants hope the Venezuelan star stays loyal to the franchise that signed him as an amateur free agent in 2003.

"We've put out feelers all over the board with our options, whether it's other free agents or trade interest," Sabean said. "But obviously Pablo's the heavy lifting and that also meets the budget, too."

I have an easy rule for players I don't want. If they are fatter than I am...Go play somewhere else.
