    but it's a scrappy .081 :rolleyes::lowscore:

Heisey continues working to find rhythm
by Vincent Samperio | Dodgers Nation — 8 hours ago

It’s hard enough to make the transition to a new team, but it’s even harder when you’re also competing for a roster spot on that new team.

Outfielder Chris Heisey was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers this winter in a somewhat strange move because of the team’s abundance of outfielders. The former Cincinnati Red is one of a handful of outfielders that is working to make the Opening Day roster. Heisey has struggled this spring, hitting just .081 in 20 games.

Despite those numbers, Heisey is still optimistic about his place with the Dodgers via JP Hoornstra of the Daily News:

“I’d obviously love to be playing a lot better than I am now,” Heisey said, “but I am thankful that it is spring training, and this is the time we do get to work on some things. Being with a new organization, I would’ve liked to have a spring like I had last year. It just hasn’t happened for me.”

Heisey has never been a hitter with a high average, topping out at .265 in 2012, but he has made the adjustment to coming off the bench and is considered a pinch-hitting threat.

Because of his past success and understanding in the role, manager Don Mattingly is not holding Heisey’s spring against him:

“Early on I felt like Chris was trying really hard,” Mattingly said. “You always try to keep your perspective with guys that come from different organizations and you’ve never really seen before on a daily basis.”
Barring a trade, it appears Heisey will start the year in Triple-A because there are simply too many outfielders for just four or five spots. Since Heisey is one of the only outfielders with an option left, that leaves him in the Minors to begin the year.

    Brewers Release Chris Perez
By Brad Johnson [March 29, 2015 at 7:06pm CDT]

The Brewers have released reliever Chris Perez, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Perez was in camp on a minor league deal. He was granted his release rather than re-assigned so he can look for another big league opportunity (also Twitter). Perez, 29, pitched 46 innings for the Dodgers in 2014. He posted a 4.27 ERA with 7.58 K/9 and 4.86 BB/9. The former Indians closer has locked down 133 career saves, but he began to struggle with command and control in 2013. His stuff has remained largely intact, including a 94 mph fastball. He pitched to a 2.70 ERA this spring with five strikeouts and three walks in 10 innings.

    seems like overkill
especially since we're [supposedly] trying to find a roster spot for kike hernandez
    probably just stockpiling surplus
johnson isn't much of a hitter, but solid defensively

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-dodgers-20150401-story.html

With the Dodgers scheduled to break camp Wednesday, Adrian Gonzalez was among several veterans permitted to travel to Los Angeles a day early.

As Gonzalez packed his bags, he sounded upbeat about how the lineup has looked during the exhibition season, which will conclude in Southern California with the three-game Freeway Series against the Angels.

The Dodgers' 46 home runs are the most in baseball this spring. Their .286 average is sixth-best.

    "Good professional at-bats," Gonzalez said.

Right fielder Yasiel Puig batted second — with Gonzalez behind him — in the Dodgers' 2-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

Mattingly said he wants Puig and Gonzalez to be paired, either in the second and third spots or the third and fourth.

    Gonzalez likes the idea.

"With him, if he gets on base, he creates a threat to the pitcher, the pitcher worries about him a little more, may make more mistakes to me," the first baseman said. "And I'm protecting him a little bit."

However, Gonzalez downplayed the idea that his presence would automatically result in increased production for Puig.

"He's still got to do his thing. I'm not going to be a factor in whether he does well or not," Gonzalez said. "He's still got to swing at strikes and he's still got to lay off balls. If he's able to do that, his numbers will be there."

    • My lineup card: 1. Rollins, SS, switch, 2. Crawford, LF, left, 3. Puig, RF, right, 4. Gonzalez, 1B, left, 5. Kendrick, 2B, right, 6. Pederson, CF, left, 7. Uribe, 3B, right, 8. Grandal, C, switch. Balance. Speed at the top. Pederson positioned to help but not burdened too much. Go Blue!

Second baseman Howie Kendrick batted fourth Tuesday, followed by switch-hitting catcher Yasmani Grandal, left fielder Carl Crawford and third baseman Juan Uribe.

Rookie Joc Pederson didn't play, but is expected to be the team's primary center fielder. Pederson, who leads the Dodgers with six spring home runs, could start the season as the No. 8 hitter.

Hale, Mattingly clear the air amid ongoing feud
by Matthew Moreno | Dodgers Nation — 2 hours ago

With Matt Kemp, Hanley Ramirez and Yasiel Puig among the big personalities who have played, or play for the Los Angeles Dodgers in recent years, the Boys in Blue have at times ruffled the feathers of their opponents.

More specifically, the Arizona Diamondbacks have been among the teams who seemingly have a persisting disapproval of the Dodgers. There’s the brawl at Dodger Stadium in 2013 and later in the year, the Dodgers’ pool celebration after clinching the National League West division title that’s left little love lost between the two teams.

Tensions boiled over in the first Spring Training meeting this year (March 19), which featured four hit batsmen and four ejections. There wasn’t a carryover into the March 26 game, which may have been tied to a conversation between Dodgers manager Don Mattingly and Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale.

According to Adam Green of ArizonaSports.com, Hale said he and Mattingly laid the issues to rest with an exchange of apologies:

“We just talked because that whole situation that got out of hand over there in Glendale, he was really great about saying, ‘Hey, the baseball game is the most important thing’ and if there was anything they did or anything we did, that was out of line he apologized, and I said the same thing,” Hale said. “We just want to play ball. We have such good teams and we want good competition, don’t want anything else involved with it.”

Hale’s remarks come just under one week after he was critical of the Dodgers, saying they’re good at talking and that his club would focus on playing baseball.

While the Dodgers only faced the Diamondbacks twice during Spring Training, they’ll face them 19 times during the regular season. The first series begins April 10 in what will be the start of a three-game set at Chase Field. The Dodgers went 15-4 against the Diamondbacks in 2014.

so i went to sleep reading Sports Illustrated's take on the Dodgers last night ( 95 wins is what they predict) and i ended up dreaming that Ryu, Guerrero, and Ethier were traded to Detroit for David Price at the trade deadline ( very elaborate, i know)..and now news breaks this morning that Detroit is putting Verlander on the DL to start the year. weird.

always felt like Detroit could be sellers at the deadline this year with KC and Cleveland rising from the ashes in their own division and Toronto/Boston/O's/Seattle/Halos also in the mix for playoff spots..starting the year with Verlander on the DL will not help. they need a big year from him in my estimation.
