Correct me if I'm wrong but this seems extremely stupid. On the DL, insurance pays his contract. Once DFA'd the dodgers cut the check. I know they print money but this move is simply throwing money away and frees up nothing since he isn't on the roster.

There wasn't an actual need for him on the roster.

More on Colletti for this stupid deal in the first place.

    this
    and this...
    • League pitched 10⅔ minor league innings of rehab and the 94 mph sinking fastball he used to throw was nowhere to be found. According to scouts, League struggled to touch 90 mph.

He had to be added to the roster this weekend or be DFA'd, you can only spend I think it's 30 days on a rehab assignment.

Brandon League released by the Dodgers
Aaron Gleeman | NBC Hardball Talk — 2 minutes ago

Brandon League, who passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week, has now been released by the Dodgers.

Los Angeles is on the hook for his entire $7.5 million salary as part of a three-year, $22.5 million deal handed out by the old front office regime, so now that League is available to sign with any team for any price there figures to be some interest.

League hasn’t pitched in the majors this season because of a shoulder injury, but he threw 11 innings with a 0.82 ERA and 8/2 K/BB ratio in the minors while rehabbing. And last season he appeared in 63 games for the Dodgers, throwing 63 innings with a 2.57 ERA and zero home runs allowed.

Too bad. He was saving the hard stuff for the 2nd half.
