I have no symapthy, empathy, nor a smidgen of guilt in saying Barry Bonds deserves all the ill will from the baseball gods as they can deliver. I dont care whether he was a Hall of Famer before the roids. He is a jerk off as person (going back to his college days) and he desecrated baseball records with his cheating.

And as an aside, for Bay Area residents and Giants fans to casually ignore the facts and empower Bonds arroganc, they deserve a special place in baseball hell too.

J.P. Howell Attains 2016 Player Option
By Mark Polishuk [August 30, 2015 at 9:43pm CDT]
Dodgers left-hander J.P. Howell made his 52nd appearance of the season in tonight’s game with the Cubs, and also his 120th appearance since the start of the 2014 season. By reaching this milestone, the $6.5MM option the Dodgers held on Howell’s services for 2016 has now been converted into a player option. (Hat tip to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.) Howell’s option will become official provided he doesn’t end the season on the disabled list.

The veteran southpaw signed a two-year, $11.25MM deal with Los Angeles in December 2013 that paid him a $3MM signing bonus and $4MM salaries in each of the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The $6.25MM team option carried a $250K buyout, though Howell did have some agency if the Dodgers exercised it; Howell would’ve been allowed to opt out of the option if he forfeited the $250K. Given how well Howell has pitched this season, he likely would’ve given up that $250K anyway in search of a longer-term contract, and the 32-year-old will get plenty of offseason attention from teams looking for bullpen help.

Howell has been a bright spot in a shaky Dodgers bullpen, posting a 1.46 ERA, 2.75 K/BB rate, 59.3% ground ball rate and 33 strikeouts over 37 innings. Left-handed batters have only managed a .225/.309/.225 batting line against Howell this year. The lefty has a 2.27 ERA in 198 1/3 innings from 2012-15, and while the peripheral stats indicate that he’s gotten some significant BABIP and strand-rate help over that stretch, Howell’s 2.9 BB/9 this season is on pace to be the lowest of his 10-year career.

The Cubs are adding outfield depth for the stretch run. The team acquiredAustin Jackson and cash from the Mariners for an international free agency bonus slot and either a player to be named later or $1, CBS Sports MLB Insider Jon Heyman has confirmed.

    Or $1?

    LOL

As for the Ruggiano acquisition, I'm ok with it especially after losing Kiké for a few weeks.

Ruggiano career vs. LHP: .266/.331/.505 .360 wOBA 129 wRC+; could platoon with Joc in CF.

That ball would have been long gone if it didn't hit one of their catwalks, he never had a chance.

and he was kinda killing it in triple-a...
    • In 49 games with Triple-A Tacoma, Ruggiano hit .296/.385/.514 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. Given that Ruggiano is capable of playing all three outfield positions, he provides additional insurance in the event Joc Pederson continues to struggle.

What do you think of giving Peraza a real look at CF the rest of the season when Howie is back and Joc still being terrible? I like his high contact rate, he has good ABs and speed. Idk just throwing it out there.

Peraza can be the cliche table setter
Puig with some thump in the 2 slot
Put Howie right back in the middle of the order. He's so solid and, yes, another cliche...'run producer' of sorts. Will shorten up and get runs in. Such a pro
Adrian, Turner, Ethier, Grandal. Bat Rollins 8th.

We need better hitters getting more ABs.

Hopefully this 1-2 of Jimmy and Chase is only because of injuries and lack of alternatives.

I'm all for Peraza anywhere he can replace Rollins or Joc in the lineup.

    Braves Promote Hector Olivera
By Jeff Todd [September 1, 2015 at 1:43pm CDT]
The Braves have promoted infielder Hector Olivera for his first major league stint, according to a team announcement. The move had been expected, as reporters have indicated over recent days that Olivera was being prepared for a September call-up. (Among them, David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tweeted yesterday that a move was still expected and Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com added today on Twitter that it was forthcoming.)

Did we do one huge circular trade for this guy? Did we end up net-net or did we lose something in this bizarre exchange.

And does this FO really know what it is doing?
