It wouldn't be a bad hire. At least they'd be hiring a hitting coach that could actually hit

    Actually

Meanwhile, the Cubs probably only have the financial firepower to add about $20MM to their annual payroll this winter. Sources tell Rosenthal that the club’s payroll will be in the $130-140MM range for the foreseeable future. Based on the numbers at Cot’s Contracts and MLBTR’s arbitration projections, the Cubs are a bit over $110MM in 2016 when including league-minimum players. That leaves some wiggle room for two adds, but probably not if one of those players is Price orZack Greinke. Rosenthal notes that the Cubs could add a young pitcher via trade, possibly for Jorge Soler. That wouldn’t impact payroll much in the near-term and would free the club to pursue Heyward or Alex Gordon to reduce the team’s overall strikeout rate (and improve the outfield defense)

    And!

Would think the Cubs best option should be to go after one of the second tier starters (Leake or Lackey) to slot in behind Lester and Arrieta, then use Schwarber to net them a young top flight starter, maybe a Carrasco, Salazar, Grey or Fernandez (obv would take more than just Schwarber for those last two). Then they could pursue Heyward and could choose to hold on to Soler or use him to land a top end back of the bullpen arm(Chapman, Giles, Miller) and some bench depth. They move Soler that frees up some extra money and they could bring back Fowler to have a pretty good defensive OF, not to mention a dynamite rotation. I just don't see why they should blow their load for one player.

Sign Greinke, Price, Kazmir and O'Day. The pitching market won't be this favorable next few years. Lock em up and have the fifth spot be between Ryu and Anderson.
Best rotation in baseball for the next 5 years. Kershaw, Greinke, Price as 3 aces with kazmir ryu and anderson your 3 middle of the rotation guys at the end of the rotation holding a spot for Julio Urias.

Trade Andre Ethier, Mike Bolsinger, Alex Wood, and Alex Guerrero to marlins for Dee Gordon and Marcell Ozuna.

Offense is low budget while pitching is rich.
    Way it should be.
Lots of defense, decent pop and good ability to get on base.

    Dee
    Joc
    Seager
    Puig
    Agon
    Turner
    Ozuna
    Grandal/Barnes/Ellis

I'm going to be a little suspicious when Dee is hitting 30 HRs.

David Price:Peter Gammons reports that Price cares more about factors aside from money, such as comfort, liking his city and being able to hit in the NL. Draw conclusions at will and remember that he definitely wants to play for your favorite team because it's the most fun team.

    Sounds like Price

Rosenthal (on hot stove this morning) said that he wouldn't be surprised if Greinke and/or Price signed before the winter meetings.

    So any day now
    Hmmm interesting.
This Greinke/Giants shit is kinda funny
I guess Greinke and Madbum could bond over their hate for Puig.
    Racist.
I'll be disappointed if LAD isn't the 1st or 2nd to strike here

Dave Roberts press conference at 11

Press conferences don't really do much as far as information goes but it's a good chance to get some optimism for the season

VERY exciting news coming to Dodger fans later today. I'm going to freak out, (not Greinke related). [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Wonder what this could be. TV deal perhaps?

Can't imagine it's on-field related, maybe a TV deal, but we would have heard about that as talks heated up.
