She fires everybody and brings back Jerry West as a consultant for a few years to his own son and brings Luke Walton down with him to coach the offense and maybe Matt Barnes to coach the defense just to piss off Fisher.

Don't know about missing the playoffs, but they surely would be compromised in a major way on both ends of the floor, likely wouldn't reach the ultimate goal if he's playing significant minutes.
Shitty as he is offensively, he hasn't even been a decent defender since like 2007 or 08, just pretty much making all NBA defensive teams based on reputation...utter garbage on defense currently.
Ain nobody got time for that, especially real contenders.

If Phil Jackson doesn't want to coach the Knicks, he ought to let someone else
By Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports

Golden State assistant Luke Walton is closest to a legitimately coveted candidate with ties to Jackson and the triangle – and he's still largely unproven, too. Walton intrigues Jackson, but truth be told: Why would Walton come East without an assurance Jackson is committed to the long run in New York? There's still a strong belief Jackson will eventually find his way to his fiancée Jeanie Buss and the Los Angeles Lakers. Walton will be competing with Thibodeau for the Lakers job in the spring, and who knows: Jackson and Walton could be reunited there.

Walton is a West Coast guy, the way his boss, Steve Kerr, is too. Kerr turned down Jackson and New York, because he had far more attractive choices. Porzingis makes the Knicks job intriguing in the long run, but make no mistake: One way or another, Jackson will be gone before the next Knicks coach has cycled through New York. To think the next Knicks president/GM – Steve Mills or Isiah Thomas – will stay true to the triangle is absurd, and so hiring one more triangle coach is almost guaranteeing him Fisher's fate.

Report: Strongly believed Phil Jackson will return to Lakers
by Harrison Faigen | Silver Screen and Roll — 8 hours ago

With the Los Angeles Lakers sitting at 11-43 as they cruise towards setting a new mark for worst record in franchise history, there is thought that the team will look to make changes this off-season. While most reports have focused on the job security of head coach Byron Scott, recently there have been signals that a change in front office personnel may take place as well.

In the aftermath of the New York Knicks' unexpected firing of head coach Derek Fisher, Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical reports that there is "strong belief Jackson will eventually find his way to his fiancée Jeanie Buss and the Los Angeles Lakers," possibly with Luke Walton or Tom Thibodeau as head coach.

Jackson has previously stated that he is no longer interested in coaching, and the Lakers currently have front office staff in place with vice president of basketball operations Jim Buss and longtime general manager Mitch Kupchak. Additionally, Lakers president Jeanie Buss has previously stated that her brother has until his self-imposed deadline of the summer of 2017 to turn the Lakers around, so Jackson entering this summer would seem unlikely.

With rumors like these, you have to wonder who is leaking the information and who the leak benefits. For competitors, the Lakers looking unstable heading into a summer when they will have the most cap space in the NBA is a plus, so given the phrasing of the report as a "strong belief" without knowing who is the person who believes this information so strongly, it's hard to know how seriously to take the rumor.

Anything is possible with the Lakers, but for now it's probably best to take this report with a grain of salt.

Perhaps past him time. Really hasnt proved he could be a great GM either. Never showed a talent for developing rookies. Too tied to a system. And may cause super drama for a Laker team that really needs to concentrate on basketball.

Phils time has come and gone.

I wouldnt be hating on the idea, but it just seems like an old, tired, and possibly desperate move at this time.

Phil is so insistent on running the triangle in NY right now even though his personnel doesn't fit it. He doesn't have his Shaq or his Gasol or Bynum, no dominant big man that can carry it. He also doesn't have his Jordan or his Kobe to run it either. That won't work in today's NBA and he still hasn't figured it out and he fired a head coach that never had a shot in the first place because of an untalented roster that is compounded by being in a terrible system. Also, it just seems like whenever this organization is in a funk and we turn to Phil, sure he gets us out of it and gets us championships, but he ain't gonna he around forever. But that is a whole other issue in of itself
