It would have helped to say "worst case scenario" before saying the surgery comment. Much todo about nothing however!!

Tell me, how big a gap is it to say something "MIGHT" require something and some occurrence "MAYBE" a possibility?

If this was month 1 of the season, sure, no harm no foul.

A few weeks before the trade deadline in the heat of possibly catching the Gnats or getting a wildcard spot, not very smart.

I try to stay positive, and I applaud those in here who are trying to stay positive, but Doc did not say "it might require surgery" in the vein of "well, anything might require surgery". This is scary even if he doesn't need surgery. It's hard to imagine this won't be something that will linger and/or affect his ability to pitch at such an elite level. It's Kershaw, so normal rules don't necessarily apply. But damn this is scary.

Hypothetically, if this is the end, people on here who love opt-out clauses will get a front row seat to see why they are not in a team's favor.

no reason to bring up surgery [possibility or otherwise] unless someone asked
    maybe they did
would have preferred him say something innocuous like "that option hasn't been mentioned yet"
but yeah, media ran with it and [hopefully] blew it out of proportion
but me... i'm hoping for the best, preparing for the worst
    that's how i roll

Koufax might be one of the strangest people I've encountered on the internet... and that's saying something.

Has less to do with his spelling and more to do with creating dozens of profiles to talk to yourself.

I always got along with him but it's just strange.

Is there a reason that teams start rooks with their ML debut against us? Or just coincidence?

Does anyone else feel that if surgery for Kershaw is something he eventually will have to do , with time just passing and not being able to pitch, waiting is a waste of time ?
Doctors must be able to ascertain whether there is a chance for this season's return...is extended rest even a possibility for him coming back ?

Just to show how fucking good CK has been this year....

Clayton Kershaw has been on the disabled list for five weeks. He still leads all major league pitchers in WAR by more than a full win.

Kershaw still not throwing, no return date set
by Doug Padilla | ESPN Staff Writer — 2 hours ago

LOS ANGELES -- Five weeks after he last started a major league game, Los Angeles Dodgers ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw still is not participating in baseball activities.

Kershaw said Tuesday that he intends to pitch again this season as he tries to recover from a herniated disk in his lower back, but no timetable for his return has been set.

"He's just doing core work, the back, strengthening," manager Dave Roberts said. "He hasn't picked up a baseball yet. Hopefully sooner than later, but no baseball activities."

Kershaw did throw in a simulated game just after the All-Star break concluded, but a setback with his back injury shut him down again. Just two months of the season remain, and Kershaw will first have to stretch out his arm and build up to handle a starter's workload.

While the Dodgers didn't think Kershaw would need a minor league rehab assignment before his setback, it seems obvious that he will now need some rehab games under his belt. That will delay his return to the Dodgers even further.

"I think it is on the horizon, but I just don't know how close," Roberts said when asked about Kershaw's return to throwing. "Obviously the sooner the better, but with Clayton, we don't have to worry about the effort and the focus. When it happens, we'll find out, but there is no timeline for us."

Kershaw's goal is to not only return but to have an impact for the team this season.

"It's just hard not to pitch; that's what I love to do," Kershaw said earlier this week. "You realize how much you love the game when you're away from it and how much you take it for granted. I learned that. Being healthy is something that really is a blessing. It's something that you really can't take for granted. It's hard to be away but I understand, and I'm just trying to be patient."

Well... a whole lot of words which say nothing...recovering from a herniated disk? Seems to me, having three of them, you can feel somewhat better for a time, but pitching a ML baseball game? All this time could be used more expediently. We love when you pitch too, that's for sure.
I don't know if you "recover" sufficiently enough to do that naturally by inactivity alone. I know he wants to be there, with the team, but caucasian, please...
    Sounds very troublesome, imo. Very.
