I've got to be honest, I feel like this does happen again and again with Kenley. Not every time he pitches, but in every close game he seems super shaky. Especially if it's a pretty important game with high pressure. Not just this year, but every year he has been our closer.

It's so strange, the guy has absolutely incredible numbers on the whole, but I feel like if it's a tie or 1 run game, he's absolutely atrocious. I have no numbers to back this up, but I would love to see his career numbers in save opps with a 1 run lead, vs save opps with 2/3 run leads.

2 blown saves all of last year and he already has 5 this season.
You and I talked about this last night, but Kenley's been a punk ass all season and it's not even all about the blown saves either.
He reportedly griped about the Chapman deal for selfish reasons when it was agreed to.
He bitched up and shunned the media when they questioned him after his goof in SF.
His latest bitch up ( before last night) was at the ASG media session where he says, " at the end of the day, the way I see it, I’m going to play somewhere, anywhere next year. It’s either with the Dodgers or not with the Dodgers. "

Now, I probably wouldn't be mentioning this stuff if he hadn't blown so many saves and ones at pivotal points within the season, but collectively it's all just too much for me, the fuck it all reactor has been triggered here.
So I'm tellin you right now, I'm out on this fella, I've seen enough.
I hope he figures it out and helps LAD win and all while he's here because the name on the front of jersey is #1, and yeah I know all about his career low ERA this year, but I'm looking at the totality of his blown save number ballooning and all the little bitch moments mentioned above and I'm just over the dude.
It all reminds me too much of Hanley's last season with LAD.

For me, LAD should strike up a 3 team deal with NYY and get Andrew Miller, send Kenley to a 3rd team in the AL that needs a " closer " and just be done with it.
Miller's a better reliever than Kenley anyway, yeah I said it and it's true, and Miller is under contract going forward as well at a great number.

How's about that for the shocking trade that some are thinking could take place...Dodgers swap out Jansen for Miller, never saw it coming.
Montas/Libby/Blanton set up Andrew Miller next year.

    I agree 100%

Obviously nobody here will be bitching about Kenley if he could consistently show us he is nails in pressure situations, but it's simply not the case. Pile on the fact that he seems to say and do all the wrong things with the media (bitching about Chapman, being a punk when the media asks him about a blown save, etc.), and it makes it easy to not really pull for the guy.

Whether or not a trade like that goes down, I am doubtful. But like you said, I hope he plays well because obviously we all want what's best for the team, but if he's not back next year I won't be upset. (So long as we find a replacement)

Kenley has been amazing in his career, but he's definitely delivered some heartbreaking losses this season. I'm having a hard time getting motivated for today's game after last night. Yankees score late to beat the Giants, Turner hits a clutch HR, and we are 1 out away from being 3 back....poof. Could be looking at 5-2 in the 2nd half right now and 2 games back if Kenley just gets 1 more out vs AZ and St. Louis. Hurts. Have to give major props to the rest of the BP though....amazing that so many of us(myself included) thought Jansen was our only reliable RP going into the season and he ends up being the RP we trust the least near the end of July.
We obviously have other issues as well such as the offense. Definitely need an upgrade at one of the corner OF spots at the deadline because our offense goes dead too often and it seems like the backend of our lineups consist of players that are automatic outs. If CS and JT don't come through, I find myself waiting for their spots to roll around again while hopelessly rooting for the guys behind them. It'd be huge if we could find a reliable bat we can put behind them.

    We're seeing eye to eye
I look at Montas as a guy who could be his replacement.
I imagine Montas will get over his rib problems at some point before next season, especially now that they aren't pushing him and trying to get him back for this season.
    He's got a 101MPH 4 seamer, a 97-98MPH cutter-like FB, and a solid slider to go with those other 2.
If they can't pull off any sort of trade to get a Miller from NYY, or they're still passing on Chapman ( in trade or free agency), perhaps they'll just turn to Montas or maybe even Liberatore.
But yeah, I'm now to the point where I'll be more upset if Kenley does return, especially if they load him up with a bunch of $$$ and he continues on with all the questionable shit

    Likewise.
I'll be watching today with a lot of hatred for LAD and that sucks as well.
It feels all too familiar, like last night's game is gonna bleed over into another loss and perhaps another one after that.

    Fuckin amazin
I put it right up there with Durant joining the Warriors and Kobe's 60pts for most unbelievable shit of the year

He even quit baseball altogether when the Dodgers wanted to convert him from a catcher to a pitcher. He's such a bkitch!!!! And I'll drop the 'k' if he blows another pivotal game.

The team was incomplete and had many questions going into the season, and basically, more questions are now front and center...I think initially, people thought that Puig and Gonzo would be solid, and as it turns out, not so. To date.
The pitching was always a crap shoot, and CK the rock and anchor...but look at what God hath wrought.
At least McCarthy has returned with really nice turns, so he is now the working ace.
The " glut" of OFs is actually now a joke, as we are possibly looking for one out there now. Who knew??
An oft discussed " bridge to Kenley" was a substantial problem we assumed.
But that Kenley himself, with his staggering numbers and high saves amount, would be a problem, is something I dont think anyone, even remotely, thought about.

glad you guys have brought this to the forefront
at the time of the proposed chapman deal, i brought up kenley being a whiny bkitch about it
most here disagreed, and only you two, tb, jpl and a couple others agreed
fuck him and his oversensitive "me first" ineffective ass

ESPN saying Gnats are in on Chapman. Given Casilla's issues, makes sense. But we just can't sit still this trade season.

This team really needs help in a lot of positions to get a shot and we just can't let the Gnats sneak up on us and get stronger exactly where they need the improvement.

My opinion around the time of the Chapman deal/non-deal was that if Kenley was worried about where he stood with the club because of that trade, then screw him. We don't need low self-esteem, coddled players on this team.

Still, relievers are always hard to gauge because they have a small sample size of appearances. Hopefully all this can be chalked up to bad luck and coincidence. I'm not on board with getting rid of Kenley, but bolstering the bullpen is always a good thing even if it displaces Kenley to setup. I want to like him. I really do.

all for making the team better
if that includes keeping kenley, so be it
if it involves unloading him, that's fine too
as for trades, there are only two untouchables in my book -- kersh and seager
    i'd rather hold onto urias/deleon/bellinger
but if it makes us a better team immediately then we should seriously consider it
because imo, our starters/pen would look a whole lot better if they had a consistent offense supporting them

Consistency will always be a problem with Puig because of his legs...always. Even if he gets his stroke back, any time he digs it down to first, the 15 day DL is a real possibility.
And , forgive me, but this could be the story from this point on with Clayton. Distasteful to think of, but it could be a real demon we have to face over and over. Lord, make it be not so.
I believe we are witnessing the bad back thing with Adrian, too...at least he is out there. But a pitcher?
No can do. It seems to be the "new" thing now...tweaking the back. There are others facing the same thing...young guys, too. Unfortunately, there's no Tommy John surgery to miraculously ressurrect in a year or so for the back. Workaday average guys have dealt with it for years...I have. Not fun. Pain, man. But you go on...
    But for a professional athlete...

The royals are considering becoming sellers. If so go get wade Davis if Miller and chapman aren't legit possibilities

Don't think that would be enough but the difference is that the Ranger players are infielders and our players are in the outfield.

CHRIS SALE SCRATCHED from start!!! Trade soon?

I can see the Red Sox putting together some insane package for Sale. Their GM doesn't give two shits about prospects.

Damn. If only he was coming off surgery, or was struggling but recently added a new pitch. Nerds would be all over him.

They didn't have to reattach his pitching arm, so not yet the bargain they hoped for.
