Puig won't be traded to unknown team that claimed him
    ESPN.com news services — 23 minutes ago

The unknown team that claimed Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig on revocable waivers had more interest in blocking him from going to another team than sincere interest in trading for him, a league source told ESPN's Jim Bowden.

Puig, 25, was demoted to the minors earlier this month a day after the Dodgers couldn't move him before the non-waiver trade deadline.

He told ESPN's Marly Rivera on Monday that he would have preferred a trade to another team instead of being demoted to the minors, but he also acknowledged he has learned some humility since joining the Dodgers' Triple-A team in Oklahoma City.

"The moment I arrived in L.A., people were crazy for me -- 50-60 thousand people [cheering] at the stadium," Puig said in the interview with Rivera. "I got used to that amount of fans. Getting to Triple-A and not seeing as many fans is not very appealing or fun to play baseball, but this is what I have to do for my future."

Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman said Tuesday that he had seen a similar change in Puig's focus and attitude since he was sent to the minors, and that the team was still deciding whether to keep Puig in Oklahoma City for the entirety of the Triple-A playoffs.

Puig was an All-Star in 2014 after a meteoric rise with the Dodgers, who signed the Cuban prospect to a $42 million, seven-year contract in June 2012. He hit 35 homers and drove in 111 runs while batting .305 in 2013-14, but slipped to .255 last season while playing in just 79 games because of hamstring troubles.

Puig has been physically limited and largely inconsistent even when healthy this season, batting .260 with seven homers in 81 games. His on-base-plus-slugging percentage is down to a career-worst .706.

get that but he was successful and then never really got a chance to follow it up
didn't know about the PR team thing but it just seemed someone would have given him a shot if there wasn't something more to it
being christian isn't exactly popular these days but if his people were out of hand that could explain it

i have read that like puig folks dont like him but they cant really point to why
i mean they can, but they cant bring themselves to say it
but they dont like his constant jesus talk
it probably gets annoying after awhile
you are supposed to live with the spirit of jesus in your soul not live with the name of jesus on your lips
from what i have read jesus was not that fond of the fans
    he wants bandmates, not fanboys

    its the same thing
    its like with richard pryor
he had the same issues with his personality on the set
there is little difference in the effect that a tebow, pryor, or puig has on their coworkers

I guess we are 6 hours from the deadline for these guys to put a deal together to get a RH bat to hit RHP. Be really nice if they could put a Braun deal together.

Just because he's not as committed to his craft as other players say he should be doesn't make him an ass.

As the Latin American players started to be purged from the roster, the behind the scenes issues with Puig became more and more into the spotlight. I honestly think a big reason of late that you're seeing him have these issues could be that he doesn't have someone in the clubhouse he can really relate to. Currently the Dodgers have 3 Latin players in Ruiz, Avilan and Kenley with not a single one known to be the outgoing flamboyant types that many other players from that region tend to be. So instead of him being able to have his fun and relate with Uribe, Ramirez, Cruz and those types while still benefiting from their guidance, he started to have to branch out. It is like a puppy that doesn't get its required exercise on a daily basis, it gets bored and becomes destructive looking for ways to act out. It is no secret that Puig is a giant child, the team basically took his toys away and said, "no more fun!" as it focused more and more towards becoming that straight laced organization by adding Utley, Kendrick, Kazmir and Blanton, while removing Guerrero, Uribe, Ramirez, etc... I think his biggest deal now is that he doesn't blend in with any section of the clubhouse and is in a spot all of his own where the team is struggling to harness it. I'm bummed that it does not look like the organization is able to find a way to put it all together and I will not be shocked if he goes to a team that maybe has that guidance he needs and he puts it all together. The kid is still an immense talent.

    RACIST!

    ;)
This is exactly what my view on the situation is.
A personality thing. Not a racism thing but a fact that the culture is different now.
Which people like to point out is now a 'winning' (white/utley) culture. We havent won anything yet, not anything we hadnt won with the previous 'loser' (caribbean/hanley) culture.

Forgive them for adding professionals like Kendrick, Utley and Blanton and ridding themselves of the likes of Ramirez and Guerrero.

The excuses have run out for Puig in LA. It's obvious.

If he succeeds elsewhere, it's to his credit. It wasn't happening in LA and that's solely on Puig.

Sources: Dodgers expressed interest in bringing back Greinke
by Ken Rosenthal | FOX Sports — 51 minutes ago

Zack Greinke back with the Dodgers?

It's not going to happen, not yet and maybe not ever. But the Dodgers expressed interest in trading for the Diamondbacks right-hander before Wednesday night's deadline for players to become eligible for postseason rosters, according to major-league sources.

The discussions were not substantive and did not advance, sources said. The Dodgers, however, could revisit their continuing interest in Greinke this offseason; clearly, they still covet a pitcher who had a 2.30 ERA for them from 2013 to '15.

The D'backs, meanwhile, soon could grow more willing to purge the remainder of Greinke's six-year, $206.5 million contract. Their average home attendance of 24,462 this season would be their lowest since Chase Field opened in 1998. A Greinke trade would create greater payroll flexibility, perhaps enabling them to fulfill their stated goal of signing All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to an extension.

Greinke, 32, cleared waivers, sources said, making him eligible to be traded to any team. He is owed $172.5 million over the next five seasons, including $3 million installments of his signing bonus on each May 31.

His deal also includes a 15-team no-trade list and a $2 million assignment bonus if he is traded. While it is not known whether the Dodgers are on Greinke's no-trade list, he almost certainly would be open to rejoining his former club; the Dodgers lead the NL West, while the D'backs have the third-worst record in the National League.

The Dodgers' motivation for re-acquiring Greinke is the same as it was when the Diamondbacks outbid them for the pitcher in free agency last offseason by guaranteeing him an extra year. Greinke would give Los Angeles a strong complement to left-hander Clayton Kershaw, and protection against Kershaw opting out after the 2018 season.

The problem in completing any Greinke trade is that the D'backs would need to agree with their trading partner on his appropriate financial value. Greinke's $34.4 million average annual salary is the highest in major-league history. He would not be valued as highly if he hit the open market today.

Greinke, after leading the majors with a 1.66 ERA in 2015, has not been nearly as successful in his first season with Arizona. His 4.17 ERA would be his highest since 2010. He missed more than a month with a strained left oblique. And while most in the industry believe that he will age well, he turns 33 on Oct. 21.

The D'backs intended Greinke to be the centerpiece of a contending club for several years, but their season has been a major disappointment, raising questions about whether chief baseball officer Tony La Russa and general manager Dave Stewart will remain in their present positions.

A trade of Greinke could be a financial boon for the D'backs, even if they included significant cash to secure better players in return. The D'backs are in the first year of a 20-year contract with FOX Sports Arizona that reportedly is worth more than $1.5 billion and includes an equity stake in the network. But they are still not considered one of the game's financial giants.

Goldschmidt remains quite affordable; he is under club control through 2019 at below-market salaries. Stewart, though, told MLB Network's Jon Heyman last year that he wants to make Goldschmidt "a lifetime Diamondback."

The D'backs might not want to carry a monster Goldschmidt deal plus Greinke's in his declining years, particularly when they did not get the revenue boost they expected this season. The Dodgers are one of a handful of teams that could absorb the rest of Greinke's contract.

They inquired about him once. Chances are, they will inquire again.
