Waiting may actually be better. If PG13 and Lebron are willing to cut team friendly deals on short contracts, we stretch Deng, and renounce Randle (big loss that would hurt, I know), we might be able to Golden State this in 2019.

Not a salary cap expert, but to keep as many rookies and picks as possible may not be a bad idea.

    Great.
The Lakers have not signed anyone yet. It is possible that George stays in OKC and LeBron goes elsewhere
They need to sign one right away. If they are both not already in step with each other to come here together then sign the first one who wants to sign. Don't wait for LeBron. If he wants to come then sign him on day 1 if not move on to Paul George. Don't give anyone time to think about it. Magic needs to close.
Then once he closes they have to move on to the next guy and blitz him.
The next guy has to sign at under a max contract. A few million less.
Because Randle has to be offered a contract on day 1 that he will be comfortable with. He might get 20M in the open market. Lakers could offer him 17M a year with an opt out after 2 years so he can get more money if he wants.
Randle only counts 12M against the cap while he is a FA. But once he signs with the Lakers his cap number will be whatever he signs for.
So there is a window where the Lakers have an extra 5M to 10M to spread out to FA before signing Randle.
Im with Gebbeth, if you can't get both prizes get the 1 prize this year and the 2nd prize next year.
And keep all the young players.

I take it he's no relation to Milt Wagner.

With what they're trying to do this offseason, young and cheap is a solid bet

Yeah I'm also not seeing this one

especially with the chatter of tossing Randle aside.

Randle went all hardbody last year and performed pretty freaking great yet some want to assert that Mo will make him obsolete. SMH??

Because we don't know if hardbody Randle was the real Randle or the Randle trying to win a fat contract who will then revert to his old ways next year.

No way dude he's earnest. Kid got scared of being out of the league if he didn't step up his game, so he did.

Came into camp a hardbody and worked hard all year. He's got what that Lakers need in hard D in the 4 slot and is showing more and more flashes of solid agressive offense. 16.1 PPG / 8 RPG / 2.6 Assists gets it done as his stats and shooting % have grown markedly each year.

    He's a keeper

    Jonathan Givony@DraftExpress
Top Ranked Undrafted Players: Malik Newman, Rawle Alkins, Trevon Duval, Gary Clark, KD.J. Hogg, Allonzo Trier, Theo Pinson, Kenrich Williams, Tyrggvi Hlinason, Bonzie Colson, Billy Preston, Keenan Evans, Marcus Foster, Brandon McCoy, Isaac Haas, Donte Grantham, Dakota Mathias

Newman is a real talent, former McDonald's all american, his game at his age is further along than Clarkson's at the same age, he could stick around and be a dynamite finisher next to Zo at times..maybe heading for the G League first though. LAL signed him to a 2 way contract ASAP, had to. Nice pick up. If Julius, Ingram and Zu are out to make room for LeBron/George/Kawhi, they're doing a solid job of continuing to add cheap, young talent to replace those kids

Nah man, his own words in some interview a week or two before last season began. Someone he knows explained how NBA careers can be short if you're not hustling.. I think I read it in the Times but I can't recall

Yeah, I'm not buying. The message itself is 50/50, especially for a talented guy like Julius. His caliber of talent, even before getting into better shape, gets paid and sticks around for a good while on production alone. But the message you have there is one that gets relayed to all kids regardless of their level of talent..only problem is young guys are told all the ghost stories as rookies. It's a part of the rookie program, so he knew that already. Some guys buy it and move on it immediately, other don't..some never. So while I like Julius a ton, he absolutely waited until his contract year to crank it all the way up. No getting around that. Not going to kill him for it, but it's the reality.

he's married w a kid he loves and he was developing
not sure they are going to be able fit him in as much as that sucks
i think he's going to have a really nice career and it could be elsewhere pretty easy
