    and that's super high when you consider: 1) Not striking out people a ton, 2) lots of hard hit balls, 3) not like other relievers where your earned runs can jump up if a reliever comes in behind you and brings them in

    this sucks

    Seriously though, Kenley getting the 9th is better than the 7th or 8th. Those middle innings with a tied or tight game means we need an elite reliever then, whereas the 9th you hopefully have a cushion for Kenley every time.

    This just means that during the playoffs we can't have Kenley coming in early any more

    genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they keep him as closer during the entire regular season then at some point during the playoffs remove him as closer and get more creative. Seen lots of teams do that cause you can get away with it during the playoffs. Shit, the last two world series winners had closers that were effectively struggling and/or removed from their role during the playoffs.

    Some positives despite Kenley's best efforts to totally fuck things up.

    Verdugo with great catch, throw and key single in the 8th setting up JT's game winner.

    Another solid outing for Ryu, Kelley doing what he was signed to do (Rendon isn't an easy out) and a scoreless inning from Baez. Wondering if Baez is becoming a little to enamored with his new toys (slider and change). Seems he's scared to challenge hitters at times.

    As bad as Barnes was, Martin might be worse at the plate. Takes some of the most pathetic defensive swings I've ever seen. Meanwhile the shortest of short timers, Travis d'Arnaud, is tearing it up for Tampa.

    I don't know why the complaints Kenley's issues are front and center now so a trade HAS TO be made, the timing is awesome. Pirates are out of it now so hoping Vasquez becomes more available than being reported. :pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray:

    at the end of the day, Jansen is one of our top 3 relievers and even if we add pitchers, he's gonna be one of our better relievers. He can be annoying to watch and we're never going to feel comfortable with him in a tight game in the playoffs, but I doubt anything drastic happens with him. He's not going to be below Chargois/Yimi in our depth chart or something, or even Joe Kelly, so, if he's removed, all it means is that we're biting our nails about him in the 7th rather than the 9th. Long winded way of saying I hope he gets much, much better or that he lucks into a great stretch of games during October
