Soto is amazing for 21, but his defense is gonna have to pick up otherwise he’ll need to basically be Bonds 2.0 with the stick to be an MVP candidate in the eyes of today’s voters. Not saying he doesn’t have what it takes, but he’s a big dude and he’s probably only going to get bigger. So the chances of his defense taking the necessary leap forward could be tough.

Mark Feinsand had a report tonight as a summary of the GM meetings. Things of interest.
    • He repeated what I said yesterday in that the buzz is players and teams seem to want to get deals done quicker this winter. So hopefully no mid-March major FA deals.
    • People think this is going to be a quiet offseason for major trades. He said the asking prices for Betts, Lindor and Bryant are perceived to be exorbitant. With the Indians and Cubs potentially contending, it seems to make more sense to wait til closer to the deadline since they have another year of control.
    • The Rangers have been VERY aggressive early on with the major FA’s and there is some feeling that they could go home with a couple from the top 2 tiers of FA’s. Some buzz about Ryu and the Rangers.
    • The Reds have also been very aggressive in the second tier of FA’s and are said to not be deterred of QO guys.
MLB has begun an investigation of the Houston Astros with belief they have been illegally cheating the system from 2017-2019 and maybe as far back as 2015 based on some new reports and a slew of players now coming forward.

There is growing speculation that if a grand behind the scenes scheme is uncovered, MLB could come down with harsh punishment. MLB players have been loudly speaking up saying that the Astros need to be made an example out of.

I fucking hope MLB slits their fucking throats.

With the skillset he's displayed thus far at the plate in the reg season and in the postseason, you willing to bet against his offense taking that leap forward? I'm not.

I'm looking at what I've seen between the ears of a very young top notch talent that approaches the game like a 10 year veteran. He locks in pretty damn well at his age, can only imagine him getting better

Who does it hurt to look down the road and project? First 2 seasons in the show..
    .923 OPS @ 19 years old
    .949 OPS @ 20
    .927 OPS in the post

It's really been a joke thus far. If this keeps up, he's well on his way to being in the discussion annually. Miggy did it with poor defense. This kid can do it. Miggy was Top 5 in MVP voting with the Marlins @ 21, poor defense and all..and a 5-6 win player. Soto was nearly a 5 win player this season, has caught on quicker than Miggy did back then. Soto's 1st couple years in the show..younger than Miggy..advantage Soto.

    I hope so.
But I doubt the punishment will be severe enough to make us feel any better.
The only punishment that would satisfy me includes:
    1) Footage 2017 WS banner being removed from Minute Maid Park, as well as their name on the commissioner's trophy.
    2) A.J. Hinch banned from MLB for life, as well as any cooperating staff.
    3) 50 game suspensions of at least two of Bregman, Reddick, Springer, Altuve, or Gurriel.
    4) Zero first round picks for 5 years
    5) Huge settlement for every fan who purchased tickets during the 2017 playoffs to be paid by the Astros

We can never get our championship, but this would satisfy me.

Too bad they will keep their ring and get a slaps on the wrist.

    Fuck MLB Network
Brian Kenny is one of the few guys I respect on that channel but he's about dead to me
He is so invested in feeding the Astro revolution narrative that he won't call it like it is
"When you have great organizations like the Astros, who are always pushing the envelope on what's possible, sometimes you may cross a line"
    Horseshit.
This is why nothing will happen. The league and the media it controls is already spinning it

We gonna talk about this Kenta thing? He would probably be a valuable asset to a lesser NL team, with guarantees + incentives maxing out at ~$55M over the remaining 4 years.

Damn. I really hoped that Smith would take the QO. 18 million for a worthless team would have really kicked SF's butt. Now they get a comp pick.

If he's gonna pout and they apparently tried to redo his deal, perhaps so he can earn more while pitching in relief late in the season. Maybe they agree to part ways.

Just lurk. Seems to be good place to keep up with our favorite NHL team, as bad as they've been the last couple of years.

    fuck mlb network
    fuck brian kenny
no doubt dude knows his shit
problem is he loves to pontificate and bombast whether he's right or wrong
would have had no problem if he had said the astros were a talented group, even a great team
    but not a great organization...
did he forget the (now deposed) gm's insensitive remarks regarding domestic abuse/violence?
like most of us, i hate the giants
but unless something comes out to show they cheated during their (3 championships in 5 years) run, i have to respect what they did
i still despise them, but they won fair and square

I mean, Marco Scutaro’s batting average jumped up .100 points as soon as he put on a Giants uniform. But then again, he was 36, and it’s common to see a guy’s performance jump like that at his age.

Some people get the mental part of the game later in their careers that unlocks skill caps allowing them to finally maximizes their talent.
Sometimes it takes a certain coach to notice a problem with a player and connect enough with him to help him fix the issue.
Then there is also the results of injuries causing players to need to rehabilitate their bodies. Baseball players are lazy and sometimes it takes an injury or years of injuries to get them into the kind of shape they should have been in all along.
And while they are working hard getting their strength back they will need to be monitored by their doctors.
All that hard work causes them to be too tired to get it up for the wife at home.
So the good doctor gives him pills and needles so he can hit more than just singles.
