Jim Duquette said this morning that the market for Dellin Betances is not what it seems. He said that two or three teams that have been "heavily linked to him" are not even showing interest and it is his agent trying to drum up a market. The Dodgers, Mets and Phillies are the most often linked to him with the Mets supposedly out now, so not sure if he actually does mean the Dodgers or not. There was a report late last night that he is seeking a base salary of $10M PLUS INCENTIVES and has a couple of teams willing to do that. This seems VERY unrealistic when a much safer bet just signed a 1 year $10M deal without incentives. I think this one may play out for a couple more weeks, but I'd still love for the Dodgers to be the ones to give him a shot.

But why would you like this more than Lindor? It's a one year rental. Betts is NOT going to give the Dodgers and discounts in re-sighning him.

He's going to get 350 million dollars.

Translation: Duquette is not one of the talking heads on the agents payroll and is just telling it as he really hears. I always prefer these types of reports.

I doubt if we get either we would be able to sign either. They’ll both be looking for big money deals and I doubt we’re gonna give it to em despite having Kersh’s money off the books once they’re FA.

...and the same will be with the MVP when his time comes. I can't wait to hear how the "True Blue" lemmings will react on FB when he puts on the stripes at the presser?

Two years of Lindor sounds a lot more fun than one year of Betts.

Someone is going to get a big offer. Dodgers are not going to let all of their young stars go. They are about sustainable success. That implies re-upping their youth. Bellinger, and one if Seager or the new faces.

A lot of Betts/Lindor rental talk. Been reported by various sources that LAD wasn't afforded the opportunity to counter the Yankees' final offer to Cole. Report said LAD's final offer to Cole was 8/300, and so they made it seem as though they would've at least matched the Yankees @ 9/324. Cole just didn't want to be a Dodger, and more importantly - wanted to be a Yankee. But if the Dodgers were willing to at least match the Yankees' final offer to Cole, are they also willing to go to 9/340-35o in order to keep a Betts or Lindor after trading for one of them? Seems plausible.

With that said, and then also taking into account the report that LAD had designs on making a run @ Trout or Arenado had they been given the opportunity to make it to free agency, seems they are looking to throw money at someone. But will any of the stars take their big offers? Superstar players preferring to play and be paid elsewhere seems to be an issue right now. Nothin special about being a Dodger in their eyes. Which guy do I prefer, Betts or Lindor? The one that cares about being a Dodger.

I prefer Mookie because moving him to center frees Cody going back to 1st instead of having Corey move to 1st. HOWEVER this possible rental can't include names like Lux or Smith. The Sox don't have the luxury to wait as long as we can fortunately. Feels like the Crawford/Gonzales et al deal all over again.

I think the Cole situation is different than the Rendon issue. There is always a draw to play for the Yankees, and they are in good position to win now. So I am not surprised Cole really wanted to go there (plus the money of course). But I do not think that marriage is gonna last long or be happy. NY is a pressure cooker, and Cole strikes me as kind of a redass, recluse. That doesn’t play well in NY, and if he struggles a bit, things will get blown out of proportion. That’s a long time to be in NY.

Rendon is an idiot. He chased the money and made some lame excuse that LA was too Hollywood than Newport Beach, where he might end up living. What a loon. He already won his WS, and the pressure to bring one to LA was pressure he didn’t need or want. The Angels are a couple of years away from challenging (especially if they don’t shore up their pitching), so until then, Rendon can just chill.

Obviously, LA is not the destination team it might have been in the past, but I don’t think it’s a trend or that there is something intrinsic about the Dodgers that are turning players off. They chased after in-demand FAs and missed. So be it.

    But I hope the FO has plan C, D, E, F etc.

Heyman reporting that everyone wants Lux in trade talks and the Dodgers are telling teams that there are no scenarios where he will be traded. Brewers have presumably asked for Lux in Hader discussions.

If Hader was any good, we would have been in the WS this year. Fuck Hader.

Then we better get him and pay him 350 million dollars. He’s one of the top players in the game, that’s why

    https://www.dodgersnation.com/dodge...lihood-discussed-by-ken-rosenthal/2019/12/17/

Rosenthal implies that the Padres have been cick blocking the Dodgers in all of their attempted moves. Trying to light a fire on the Dodgers targets.

Meanwhile the Padres are desperately trying to get out of all the mistakes they made a few years ago while trying to flex. Already giving up prospects to relieve payroll. They are desperately trying to bail on Will Meyers.

The padres can talk to Cleveland about Lindor. But there’s no way they could be taken seriously as a suitor when they literally have Machado and Tatis
