That is my guess as well. Just tank for a couple years, make him out to be the bad guy in the media and watch him go to your rivals(maybe...) as a free agent where the fans will absolutely vilify him then.

The " maybe " is the best part for the ROX. They really can sit back and laugh @ the thought of the Dodgers actually winning Arenado's services if he opts out.

ROX really have nothin to lose here. They're already heading to nowheresville, and just like every other MLB team that's not in South Beach, they own the summer in terms of sports, so fans are gonna show up to the park regardless. Arenado is basically talking to a wall

Yeah, like making a stadium with a 550 ft center field wall.

To be fair. The raising of the fences in RC have neutralized the park somewhat as it has brought HR's down. The problem is that the OF is just too fucking big so balls find holes more easily here. I think if they rebuilt the stadium today, they could bring the fences in a good bit and instead raise them to 20+ feet all the way around and you would see a much better game played here.

7 inside-the-park HRs and 30 bloop singles per game

If they had good ownership and management, they could make things work here from a successful franchise standpoint. That is the problem though, they don't have those things. The Rockies org is generally regarded as having one of the worst owners, one of the worst FO's and that has led to one of the worst regarded developmental and preparation departments in the game. When you have an owner that is cheap and refuses to spend on the behind the scenes issues, then you have what the Rockies do. You will hit on a guy every few years, but in between you will push out pure shit. With that said, they know what will drive folks to the games. They have 2 of best players in baseball that are on the field every night, they play in one of the best stadiums to catch a game in all of American sports, there are plenty of affordable seats to be had and they are located right in the middle of one of the countries strongest city centers where young money is aplenty while being only a block away from a transportation hub that connects most of the Metro area. They know they are going to get the numbers, so why even give a shit?

Reality TV competition and alcohol. The combination just works. Product doesn't even have to be that good.

Maybe just have the teams play their games on PlayStation.

The conversation of MLB leaving Denver is not even worth discussing. Their main media market is #17 in the country(and growing), their broadcast range (I BELIEVE are in italics) also includes #'s 30, 46, 85, 107, 169, 188, 196 and 199. This is too valuable a market to the sport in the region, so your wishes of the team disbanding are next to zero. If they did anything, they need to move the Rockies to the AL so they can carry an extra pitcher and get more guys off the field more regularly.

Jeter and Larry Walker into the HOF. Super excited about Walker as he was an underrated monster. Also, mildly hilarious that Jeter fell a vote shy for being unanimous.

I take it Bonds and Clemmens are still a quite a bit away.

They broke 60% for the first time, but they barely moved up from last year. They are not expected to get in unless there is a monumental shift in the next 2 years, which there very well could be.

    • Marcell Ozuna to the Braves on a 1 year contract. WOW! I thought he would have had at least some decent multi year deals, hence him not taking the QO. Braves are gonna be pretty good again, though OF defense could be lacking.
    • Alex Gordon is close to re-signing with the Royals.

I would not be shocked if this means that the Cards are pushing closer on Nick Castellanos. There was speculation that they were looking at him as a similar type player to Ozuna and could net the draft pick on top of it.

Why, kid? You would think cheaters and cheating itself would be more reviled than ever in light of the scummy douchebaggery of HOU and BOS.

I think there is another dynamic about Bonds/Clemens beyond the roids. They were also awful people, especially with respect to the press. Roids alone won’t keep them out, and if they were just mean to the press, they would get in. But the combination is kinda hard to ignore.

5 former Dodgers fell off the ballot. Paul Konerko, Brad Penny, Josh Beckett, Chone Figgins and Rafael Furcal. Dodgers FO member Raul Ibanez is also now off.

I think there is still a chance that they get in. There has been a lot of turnover in the BBWAA and it is the reason why the voting has taken such a drastic turn in the last couple of years. If they continue to purge some of the older guys that haven't covered the game much in the last decade+, you are going to get in the newer guys that actually cover the sport and have "meh" opinions on steroids. A lot of writers feel that either the entire era should have been blackballed, or else let them all in. You could see a late leap for them in year 10.

If Schilling gets in next year, that shit is out the window, cause EVERYBODY hates him. I've heard that Bonds has also chilled out a lot since retiring, but who knows if that is PR or what.

Dodgers signed RHP Bradley Gonzalez to an MiLB deal. Seems to be an undrafted FA and he was working with Driveline. Velo from a bullpen session he posted on his twitter page had his FB working 93-94, topping out at 95. He also threw a cutter at 89-90 and a power curve that he showed no ability to command. Stuff seemed pretty pedestrian and control was meh, but the catcher did a ton of stuff with his glove so that messed with me a bit in terms of telling how well his ability to locate was. This is at least the third player the Dodgers have signed out of Driveline this winter. They have also hired some of the DL staff, so they could be getting some good inside info.
