I mean, he hasn't been all that good since he got hurt in 2015. A 3 WAR player is not that incredibly valuable and he only barely reached that once in 2017 after 2014. His defense was so-so, but that is his own fault for refusing to listen to our coaches on placement as that would have boosted his numbers. Baseball Reference values him a bit higher than Fangraphs, but Baseball Prospectus really does not like him, averaging him out as a 2 WAR player for his career. He is a bench player with a bad attitude and immense wasted talent.

With Trout getting 13 /430 his demands can be damned. Trout's the same age and better. This is the shit I don't want to be worrying about all year.

I agree with you. I think you miss my point.

The MSM has said, repeatedly, "He burst on the scene in 2013, lit the world on fire for a few months, and hasn't been anything since." It has been repeated so many times. Over and over.

    Puig followed up in 2014 with a .380 OBP, .296 BA and a 148 wRC+.

He has fizzled tremendously since but has never dipped below league-average offensively.

This doesn't mean I think he's a great player. I'm glad he's gone. It just means he was a good player at least 1 year beyond what the media gives him credit for. He gets credit for 3 months from most commentators.

His upside has not surfaced enough over the last 4-5 years to justify overlooking his character defects and that is why he will never play again. Fine by me.

I am in no way trying to prop him up as something greater than what he was. I'm just saying, for the waste of a career it has mostly been...he gets credit for even less than what we think about him.

imo $35/year is not unreasonable for arguably the 2nd best player in baseball
    trout makes $37
    scherzer, $37.5
    arenado, $35

Puig was a beast in the NL playoffs for us in 2017 and 2018. Hit .373 with an OBP of .471.
    That shouldn't be forgotten.

Unfortunately, he fell off in the WS with a combined average of .191 and an OBP of .204

No, it's not crazy to think. The last brawl this dude started as a Dodger might be the most ridiculous, selfish shit I've seen on a diamond. We've already got a bunch of injury prone guys, yet they have to clear the dugout and storm the field and put themselves at risk because Puig wants to act like a 10 year old at the dish. Hell, one of SFG's starting pitchers got hurt in that stupid shit.

Puig's dip into free agency turning out like this is as predictable as MLB's weak punishment for the Astros. How much value does a clown really have? Even Francona is moving on

Put some respeck on Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman's name.

Puig would be lucky to be in the same sentence

As much of a clown as he is - AB is a borderline hall of famer if he never plays another snap.

    Puig = Nick Young

Trout is a year older than Betts. So Betts is essentially the same age that Trout was when he signed his 13/430 deal. If Betts really is a 10 WAR player, then he is on the same level as Trout and therefore would command a 12/420 deal. I think most would agree that the Trout deal is a good deal for the Angels, and I suspect if Trout had hit free agency he would have been able to get an ever bigger deal. Betts is closer to free agency than Trout was.

So the numbers add up, except that Betts is not a 10 WAR player. And my guess he is not even close.

In 2018-19 the Red Sox had a system in place that helped Betts know what pitch was coming.

I mean, I'm not going to hate him if he's a Dodger. That said, I'd rather have 5 years of Dugie than 1 year of Betts, and I will stick by that until their play on the field makes it convenient for me to believe otherwise.

So with a pretty good playoff contributor in Joc still around - teaming with Betts and Belli in the OF - and you're gonna be thinking about losing " Dugie "? ...

When Dugie rakes in Boston and puts up the same 5 WAR season that Betts does, then we get rolled in the WS by the Yankees, and Betts signs with Boston in the offseason because we helped them reset their luxury tax... I might be a little sad.

Again, Kris Bryant had an 8 WAR season in 2016 too, but no one is looking to hand him $400 million.
