Latest rumor is that it’s probably more of a toss up now between us and the Padres who’ve apparently improved their offer and may be willing to take on Price now. There’s less of a feeling that this is getting done soon and could still take a few days.

I honestly thought at the start that he was gonna be ours or stay with the Red Sox, but all the smoke in regards to the Dodgers lately has me now thinking it is going to go in a different direction. The "it's getting close" shit the other day with a VERY high Dodgers prospect haul that was then met with abrupt silence outside of a little "The Padres have been believed to have upped their offer" thing late last night has me believing that the Padres FO is willing to go all in for this. I think in the end, we are going to see something like Myers and MAYBE a Pham or Garrett Richards to Boston for Betts and Price. The Dodgers stinginess is probably going to cost them in the end and the Padres desperation is gonna push them over the finish line.

    SD.

Verdugo, Ruiz, Downs plus is way too much for 1 year of Betts and Price shitty contract. Fuck that.

I hope he does go to SD and those fuckers give it all up... preller is letting Bloom go balls deep on this one...gargle gargle

When we first heard that the Padres were in on Betts, we thought maybe they were just driving up the price for us. Now I wonder if it’s the exact opposite. The recent rumor of Verdugo + Ruiz + Gray + taking on a chunk of Price, it just doesn’t sound like anything Friedman has done before.

Pretty sure that happened earlier in the offseason as well when rumors first started.

and i'm okay with that too
our purported offers were more than generous
although if price goes to the pads i fully expect him to throw 30 scoreless innings against us

My far too early prediction for the rotation on opening day.
    SP1 Walker Buehler
    SP2 Clayton Kershaw
    SP3 Kenta Maeda
    SP4 Alex Wood/Jimmy Nelson/Ross Stripling
    SP5 Alex Wood/Jimmy Nelson/Ross Stripling

IF everyone makes it through spring healthy, Strip will be in the pen.

Urias will be in the pen for probably the first month or so as they will want to limit his innings so he doesn't wear down at the end. He would likely be used in a piggy-back role for with any of SP3's-5. Going 2 innings every few days, then 3 and once he hits 4, that will be it before finding him a spot in the rotation unless Wood and Nelson somehow find their fountain of youth.

May will begin the season in AAA for the same reason as Urias, but he will actually start. Just going 3-4 for the first couple of weeks before lengthening him out. He logged 144 IP last year, so 170-180 is very doable.

Gonsolin will also begin the year in AAA and will ALSO start on a bit an innings build up. He dealt with multiple injuries last year that dragged his totals way down and he looked tired at the end. He is going to need to develop his secondaries a bit more and work on his control before they give him a shot over the rest named above... it'd be nice if some of his velo found it's way back.

Someone is going to get hurt which will make this write up null, but IF in the miracle of miracles they all do make it alive, this is the likely gameplan.

If they really did offer Verdugo, Ruiz and Downs/Gray, but still go with something from the Pads then all you can do is shrug. That is 3 prospects that have shown up somewhere within the Top 61 of a prospects list within the last 12 months. I am wary already of just giving up Verdugo in a deal due to the long term impact if they fail to resign either of Betts or Pederson.

Yeah, I am used to this life. I do really want to see what Wood and Nelson can do if healthy. Wood working with Driveline is exciting and Nelson in general had evolved into a front of the rotation starter before his own injury. Chances are that neither pans out, but both have intriguing upside whether it be as a starter or out of the pen. The Dodgers giving Woods a bit more scratch after him missing most of the season tells me that the reports out of Driveline were very positive.

Wilmer Flores is signing a multiple year deal to go to the Giants. Flores has been an above average contributor with the bat and had a very good year last year with the D'Backs where his splits where far better against lefties, but he was still productive from both sides of the plate. A fit for Flores positionally will be interesting since he is mostly viewed as being pretty terrible at 2B at this point and that is the only opening on the roster. With what shifting is doing to the 2B, he could maybe be more passable there. He should be a headache for our lefty pitchers, though.
