And it is none of Marsh, Adell or Jackson..... so we are doing the Angels a big fucking favor?

And we are not exactly swamped with starting pitching depth at the veteran level where they should be comfortable moving guys unless they saw Wood and Nelson and they look insanely good.

Wow. Betts is an awesome upgrade in RF and in the lineup. Can't believe the padres couldn't beat our offer. Must have come down to the price contract. We essentially kept all our top prospects with moving around some major league players so I wonder if they have another big trade in the works. Could use another ace behind Walker. Maybe they open up trade talks with Cleveland again regarding Lindor. Either way they have a lot of prospects to pull off another trade by the deadline. If they don't re-sign Betts they get a pick after the season. Pretty solid trade!

It better be fucking Adams if we are also giving up a big league starter.

He is one of the further away guys that A LOT of scouts really like. He had a very good year at only 18 in Ogden.

They got a ton of pitching. Assuming starters are Behuler/Kershaw/Price/May/Urias, then we have Wood/Gonslin/Stripling/Nelson/Ferguson/Santana. They will be fine

That may be true, but there are a TON of guys ahead of him. Its about time MGT started dealing from surplus.

Urias, May and Gonsolin are going to be on innings limits. Both Nelson and Wood were not healthy last year. Ferguson and Santana are no longer considered starters. With Price's health issues and now the rumor that Stripling is on the way out, the Dodgers depth has definitely taken a hit tonight. They have depth, but there are a lot of question marks in there.

Still, I am not liking this trade so far as it looks like a money dump that is now including two big league performers for a decent UTL IF'er and a not top prospect from a pretty weak system after the top couple guys.

    • Something to watch is that Rengifo is looking like a Taylor/Hernandez light with his profile. He has not had a lot of seasoning at AAA, but he had been rolling through the minors before he was arguably rushed to the majors. The Dodgers may see something for the future(as they are loaded with MIF depth right now) or this could be a precursor of something else coming.
    • Heyman saying that the plan is that the Dodgers are going to explore extending Betts. Other reports stating that the Dodgers do intend to keep Betts beyond one season. That would make some sense since they just moved their second and third best outfielders.

So if all that is true then Behuler/Kershaw/Price/Wood are locks and they need one of Urias/May/Gonslin/Nelson. Look every year the Dodger Pitching staff has "health" issues and every year they manage to win the Division and have a top 5 era. Im not too worried.

I'm not sure what everyone wants. We have trashed the FO for not doing anything....and we are trashing them for doing something.

I think Betts for the assets we gave to Boston and Minn are fine. If the Dodgers wanted to get some salary relief to re-sign Betts, that's fine with me too.

Looks like we still keep Lux, Gonsolin, May, and essentially our other core players

Not bad so far. And there were more than a few people here that were way past Joc and Seager, so what do you want at this point?

BA really likes Rengifo, he will be 23 at the end of the month, really starting to think that something else is coming:

Rengifo emerged as a notable prospect during a breakout 2018 and made his major league debut in 2019. While his overall numbers weren’t impressive (.231 AVG, .685 OPS in 108 games), he improved as the season went on and showed flashes of surprising power while holding his own in the middle infield. Rengifo fits the bill of a utility player with a high-contact profile and savvy baserunning skills that make him an effective basestealer with above-average speed. He is more comfortable at his natural shortstop than he is at second base, but he can play both effectively. Rengifo gives the Dodgers a valuable utility infield option, and the Dodgers have had success turning similarly versatile players who make a lot of contact into everyday players before.

They also mentioned that Pages will leap into the Angels Top 10 prospects, which shows how far ahead our farm is to theirs.

Theirs is incredibly top heavy and then drops off drastically, but our farm is better than a lot of folks are giving us credit for. Pages has big time upside which is all you can ask for from an 18 year old.

I am absolutely loving the Red Sox/Twins trade. I think that was a fucking steal and a half. For as much as I love Verdugo, the shot at bringing in Betts and supposedly being able to sign him long term is awesome. What I am not loving is this Angels trade as it is looking like a pure salary dump and I would much rather have Pederson in LF over Pollock for the year if all it costs the franchise is an extra $8M or so. I understand that to get a little, you need to give a little. The Dodgers gave up a little to get a lot, but then gave up more than a little more for pieces that are not likely to impact a WS run greatly this season. It is ok to like one trade and not like the other and no, $8-10M should not have been a breaking point on whether or not to trade for Betts.
