I’d chalk the deal up to a loss. Contact all the players involved and smooth it over, offer bonuses if needed to show good faith.

It kinda brings to light the value of just signing free agents. I still think Rendon could have given us the same type of lift that Betts would have, and it’s much simpler to throw money at a FA than to spend months and months on deals that rely on multiple other parties, only to wind up here.

Oh, and fuck Boston. Their city is nothing but a pain in the ass, worst sports town ever*

Unless there were actual concerns in Graterol’s medicals, he would actually be an interesting piece. It sounds like he has the making of a dominant backend bullpen piece as early as this year, if things go right.

Yeah, the reviews I have read seem to love him. He’s a top 100 prospect with a high floor/super high ceiling. IF he can stay healthy he’s believed to be at worst a solid high leverage reliever. He’s got an 80 grade fastball, 60 grade slider and 50-55 command. That’s a closer. He has a change and curve that are coming along that are rated 45’s, the change would be a 50-55 if he could control it better. He gets that to a 50, he’s an elite closer or #3 as he’s shown that he can maintain his velocity well into games. He gets the curve up to 50 as well, stays healthy and he’s a frontline starter. ALL pitching prospects come with risks, so this is some grade A bullshit by the Sox.

 

I would enjoy watching Boston next offseason having to worry about escalating luxury taxes, plus dealing with Betts’ ridiculous contract demands - and what are they going to do? Not sign him after this trade fiasco? Have fun with that, Boston.

 

...and if Mookie said that a couple of days ago legitimately, then what chance would there be of signing him to a contract later on? We'll see how much he loooooves Boston at the end of next year if they don't come up with the money he is looking for.

I' d like to sit back smugly and revel in the satisfaction of Betts having a really shit year, along with Price, and Verdugo go on an insane run. But it won't happen. As we've been told, there's no such thing as karma, and pretty much every garbage thing that can happen to a team happens to the Dodgers, without the slightest measure of justice taking hold for some kind of cosmic balance.
How must the players involved feel behind this ?

Also agree... why don't we take Graterol and send some other spec to Boston to get it done? Doesn't the guy throw 102? That, and the fact he's been cut on should give Friedman a stiffie!

 

A couple things

• Since the Sox have come back and asked for a second top 10 Twins prospect, I wouldn’t assume that they’d be fine with a Gonsolin-Verdugo trade. This is like a Gonsolin-Gray-Verdugo trade scenario now as the Twins have a pretty strong system too. Graterol has higher upside over any of our pitchers outside of May.
• Guessing this is not about saving face with the Sox GM. Bloom may now try to be more transparent with AF as it is now being confirmed that this is ownership driven. So he may be saying, “look, I can’t go through as currently being reported, but I think this package would get us by.”
  
  
• The Twins have supposedly been willing to talk about a second piece in their 10-20 range, but the Sox are insisting on a Top 10. It may come down to the Dodgers getting a Twins 10-20 guy that offsets something like a Gonsolin from us with Graterol still going to the Sox.
• I would be willing to bet that this hasn’t hurt the Sox rep one iota around the league and some other teams have been scrambling to leapfrog us.

 

That’s very real too.

 

It’s in both the Dodgers and Red Sox teams to get this done.

Send Maeda to Minn. Dodgers get Gaterol (whatever the fuck his name is), and Dodger ship off Verdugo and Gonsolin or [NAME OTHER PROSPECT NOT NAMED LUX] to the Red Sox.

Yeah, it sucks but I think there is no choice now.

No one will trust the Red Sox organization again, and the cheating scandal there is just getting of the ground. I hope that franchise dies along with the Astros.
