I dont care about the overreaction.
    Its just money.
The markets will always bounce back.
The corporations can afford the haircut.
The poor won't be fazed by market downturns.
    Economy is administration of resources.
    Everything else is policing.
The only worry is that with these things the people get more used to the next big thing.
Like how Italy can easily be put under lockdown.
If they scare you enough they can make you do anything.

Then an expensive load of horseshit...cost my gf (to date) over $ 75,000 in market losses so far.
If it was really horseshit, I would collect it and sell it...do you know that little known Gene Wilder film ?
"Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx"?

Obviously, there are people overreacting by buying 10 years worth of toilet paper at Costco, but this is serious.

My sibling is a doctor, and she is very concerned about the lack of organized containment actions. The NCAA and SF announcements are preemptive and probably the right thing to do.

Definitely a fine line between balancing the benefit of playing without fans and the financial side, and the player safety side. Feel like across all sports, you only need 1 guy to test positive and then they start stopping games/suspending the league.

Obviously we're just now getting word about Rudy Gobert and the NBA.

My firm has lost 100’s of millions in managed accounts the past couple weeks, a minuscule chunk of that mine, so I feel you. If your gf has a good financial advisor they should do some tax loss harvesting on that account if possible (if it’s an old account and the losses were previous gains then it wouldn’t apply).

The middle class is the first casualty.
The wealthy can absorb losses to the market. They have a coat. Probably two.
But when they lose their coat they show their true colors. For good or for worse.

The middle class only owns the shirt on his back. And sometimes wears another man's coat. When be loses his shirt he is naked and afraid and alone in the dark.

The poor have no shirt to lose.
    So they wear fur instead.
Like shirtless barbarians they will be.

Live look at all Astros players, employees and fans on the possibility of playing without fans/not playing at all for a while...

I'm am going to be debt free within 2 and a half months. Once achieved the plan is to dollar cost average $500 a month to a roth IRA, $250 Vanguard S&P 500 index fund and $250 in US savings bonds of 10 year lengths.
Would recommend a different S&P index fund or is the VOO is a good one to roll with? Do you think it would be better to save 3000 or 10000 and open an account with vanguard directly or would it be better to just start buying immediately via an app like robinhood or fidelity

I'm not a financial advisor, so I would take my advice with a grain of salt. You are talking about a 50% S&P and 50% Bond portfolio, which would be considered rather conservative. If this is money you need in 3-5 years, that's probably a good mix, but if it's money you don't need for 10+ years most people would say to be more aggressive. I'd say wait until you have the minimum for a Vanguard account, those minimums are pretty low and if you don't have that much on hand then investing is second to getting an emergency fund base saved up anyway. Having 3-6 months expenses worth of emergency cash on hand is a priority over investing.

Yep. Let's see if the NFL plays follow the leader..ship of the NBA and MLB. Doubt it, but worth watching.
