    Is that Brother Theodore?
    I know that's a bit obscure...but does anyone know who I'm talking about ?

Nah, I don't think the Brother Theodore I know was related to anyone. Might have been a local character on this coast, Idk.
He was a strange, intense guy who dressed like a monk...babbled on incessantly, with sentences of clarity and wit now and then.
Like a spooky version of Professor Irwin Corey.

With Trump's approval at 60% for his handling of the virus outbreak (ABC and Gallup), CNN, ABC, NBC, MSNBC and others are now cutting away from the official briefings and considering not airing them.

If you make over $75,000 you have to pay the stimulus check back. $99,000 or more, you get nothing.
Do they realize a combined income of $75,000-$99,000 in some places (here) is fringe low-income?

Also, the current bill makes it so you earn more if you're laid off than if you are able to keep working. Unemployment would be $600 per week plus 100 percent of what you were earning. I must be reading that incorrectly. There's no way that's right.

Because it’s nothing but harmful . Even the stock market reacts negatively to him speaking.

the public needs consistent messaging in this pandemic. Not off hand crap that his staff and doctors have to correct off camera.

I am sure they are planning for that but that seems very unlikely. CA is flattening out the curve. CA May be open for business before other states. I don’t know how President Cheeto can say America can go back to business when you have Atlanta out of ICU beds when they haven’t even been hit hard by the virus yet.

It’s not all his fault. The right wing media hasn’t pushed back on this claim because how dare you question Teh Dear Leader. When you live in a Fox News bubble...this will happen more often. You have the right wing media air Trump’s claim. Then you have the right wing pundits applaud and drum up this claim.

The dude’s wife that almost died said they took it cause Trump said it was a cure.

I'm not sure what the $600 thing is. My wife was reading about it and thought it meant $600 on top of what you are getting for unemployment, which in California unemployment maxes out at $450/week. I really don't know. Fortunately, my wife and I are both able to do our jobs from home.

As far as what is low/high income, I've kinda come to terms with the fact that no one cares that the cost of living is different in different places. Sometimes I get it, we can all move to Nebraska, no one is stopping us. At the same time, when the difference is so staggering it can be a source of frustration.

    Sounds about right.
Steve Mnuchin just addressed this issue during the press briefing.
He said this flat $600 /week in addition to standard benefits was decided on because each state has outdated technology and they didn't have the ability to customize enhanced unemployment. According to him, this was the only way they could get the money distributed quickly.
He dismissed concerns that this would incentivize companies to lay off their employees. We'll see.

The Donald beautifully dismantling reporters and showing diplomacy to his Democratic enemies. The vice president and leader of the task force is giving guidelines to the American people. Dr. Burke is giving updates.

But NBC would rather air Ellen DeGeneres, who despite being a nice gal, has never said anything remotely humorous in her life.

But don't worry. The news will have all their edits ready for 5.

Sorry for being a broken record. But the behavior of the media is so predictable, yet fascinating.

I love you man but my dude...
Hate to break it to you but you are not entitled to that money you make.
Not forever. If you can no longer make it I mean.
If you can't make it in America with 75k a year then you are doing it wrong.
Your lifestyle is obviously not sustainable.
Plenty of people live in the inner parts of the biggest cities in this state and this county and feed their families and are happy and lead fulfilled lives making less than 24k a year.
I have pity for the middle class that has no idea how good they have had it.
    Literally no idea.
That is why I have pity.
We live in the greatest country in the world and in the greatest state in the country.
But you don't always have to have what you want or what you desire or what you wish for to be ok.
Happy is having what you need.
Like getting your protein from cheap lentils with sliced hot dogs instead of eating steak.

    Folks gotta die.
By die I mean to their life-style.
Specially if they can no longer afford it of course.
The middle class has no learn this lesson.
If you want to be middle class then you gotta be lower middle class.
That can survive a lot longer.
If you desire to save your life-style then you will surely lose your life.
    Lose yourself.
So you may be be born again.
Because right now you sound like the needy, the poor, the old, the widow, the sick, the orphan.
Yet you and the rest of us are are a rich young man.

Are you really complaining that Don doesn’t get enough face time on TV?

From 4pm to 8pm it’s nothing but national and local NBC coverage of the Coronavirus with Trump and his team at the top and bottom of the hour. This is prime time.

Well, I agree with most of this.
I suppose my post didn't really make any point so I can't blame you for not getting it.

I was just thinking out loud how the government (granted, state not fed) can say somebody with an $82,000 household income in Orange County is "low-income" but this bill treats this group like billionaires.
    Just seems like an inconsistency.
Also, by asking people to pay back the stimulus check is holding middle class America to a standard Congress doesn't hold itself to.

Yes, most responsible people who make $77-99K should not desperately need this check.

    By responsible, I mean:
    • No consumer debt
    • 3-6 months of living expenses for an Emergency Fund
    • Only 1/4 of take home pay is spent on housing
    • Every dollar is given an assignment before the month begins
A person with that income and those spending habits should not need a cash infusion of $1,200-$2400.
BUT, I still don't think it should be a loan that has to be paid back.

I said in a post weeks back that I know people who manage to save on 30K per year and others who live paycheck to paycheck on $200,000 per year.
So I get you. I think (never know with Rube).

I'm just saying that the bill is loaded with unnecessary things that congress will never have to worry about actually paying for.
Yet Mr. $75,000 in Southern California has to pay them back.

i just thoroughly resent czar Farcetti talking tough about shutting down businesses who don't shut down under his guidelines
while i watch the rule of law flaunted w people just walking in and stealing whatever they want from local businesses
its to the point where most stores lock the doors on alcohol after 9pm or block the doors
and nothing is going to be done about the lawlessness
imagine as a restaurant owner you are required to abide by all laws and pay all your taxes or else
and suddenly people are setting up bbq's on the sidewalk outside your establishment and people openly steal from your store w impunity
the homeless beg and shit on your doorstep and if you want a gun, well no chance slim those are non essential in bizarro world
    the hypocrisy is staggering
