maybe I’m old school, but there was a moment in today’s game that infuriated me
top of the 5th, two outs, and sd’s starter lamet breezing...
    then he suddenly gets wild
hits rios, walks kiké on four pitches, and then goes 2-0 on barnes
seven straight pitches out of the zone, no one should be swinging — least of all a scrub like barnes
but he does swing, and pops out weakly
    wtf?

I find it best to not pin too many hopes and dreams to a Barnes AB.

Good observation...I think it boils down to " desperate people do desperate things".
And without competent leadership, it will continue.
It's also one of the unjustifiable changes in the game. Like after the pitcher makes the second out in an inning on the bases, the next guy up swings at the first pitch. That would never be back in the day...I guess that's all moot now with the advent of the foppish DH douchebaggery.
Such hypocrisy though. You can leave one IF on a whole side of the diamond, you can cheat electronically with a minimum of a punishment for doing so, but to bunt requires a justification, almost an apology, to do so.

That's not old school. That's smart baseball.

Barnes is the last guy in the lineup that should be hacking on 2-0 after the HBP and a walk.

Just stupid and it's still stupid if he gets a hit.

Treinen has some Joe Kelly in his game. Great stuff, but sketchy command.

JT has been as bad at plate as he's been great in the field in this series.

Not old school ? Of course it is...and the reason it is, is because it is smart baseball.
    That's the point.

The inability to bunt to combat a shift infuriates me. Unless someone has an OPS of 2.000, then there's no excuse not to take a free pass to 1B. Of course, I'm assuming a player has the ability to bunt with a > 50% success rate, which might be wishful thinking on my part. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the shift. It's crazy that defensive positioning was stagnant for 100 years. But at least force the defense to play a third baseman, make them think twice about the situations they shift in.

Seems to be our rallying cry for quite a while now...all well and good, but in the end, do we ever get the brass ring again ? This year, in spite of the plague aspect, we can really see how teams have improved and are challenging us now. I think it's a legit thing.
You get so many shots at it, then it becomes someone else's chance.
Like they say, baseball is most like life of all games.
But then again, in life, when your boss is a silly tinker like some MLB Gepetto, you can quit and go somewhere else and try.

Maybe we can replace Roberts with a cardboard cutout of himself come playoff time....our odds would increase imo

    DH AJ Pollock
    1B Max Muncy
    3B Justin Turner
    CF Cody Bellinger
    SS Corey Seager
    LF Chris Taylor
    RF Joc Pederson
    C Will Smith
    2B Kike Hernandez

    P Ross Stripling

Muncy and Turner could go 0 for their next 200 and Dave would keep them in the 2-3 slot
