    2017 MLB awards schedule
by Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — 91 minutes ago

It is awards season in Major League Baseball, and here is a schedule of the various honors given out, plus the Dodgers involved where applicable.

    Monday, Nov. 6
The top three finishers for all four BBWAA awards — Manager of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, and MVP — will be revealed in a one-hour show on MLB Network (3 p.m. PT).

    Tuesday, Nov. 7
Gold Glove Award winners will be announced on ESPN (6 p.m.). Two Dodgers are finalists — right fielder Yasiel Puig and shortstop Corey Seager. Both would be first time winners should they prevail.

    Wednesday, Nov. 8
MLB Players Choice Awards will be announced on MLB Network (3 p.m.). Players voted on 10 different awards. First baseman Cody Bellinger is a finalist for NL Outstanding Rookie, and Clayton Kershaw is a finalist for NL Outstanding Pitcher.

    Thursday, Nov. 9
Silver Slugger Awards, given to the top offensive player at each position, will be revealed on MLB Network (3 p.m.). Potential Dodgers winners here include third baseman Justin Turner, Seager, and Bellinger, though each faces stiff competition from the likes of Nolan Arenado and Anthony Rendon at the hot corner, Zack Cozart at shortstop, and Paul Goldschmidt and Joey Votto at first.

    Monday, Nov. 13
Rookies of the Year will be revealed on MLB Network (3 p.m.). Bellinger is a lock here.

    Tuesday, Nov. 14
Managers of the Year will be announced (3 p.m., MLB Network). Dave Roberts could conceivably win for a second straight year, but the odds are long with both Torey Lovullo in Arizona and Bud Black in Colorado leading teams from well under .500 to the playoffs in 2017.

    Wednesday, Nov. 15
Cy Young Awards will be revealed (3 p.m., MLB Network), which means Kershaw will be involved, though Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer is probably the favorite to win for a second straight year.

    Thursday, Nov. 16
MVP Awards will be announced on MLB Network (3 p.m.). No Dodger will win, but it will be interesting to see where Turner, Bellinger and Seager end up on the ballot, and how many down-ballot votes Chris Taylor will reel in. The MVP ballot is 10 deep.

Yeah....I'm sure any Dodger winners would gladly trade these awards for a WS.

Dave will probably win manager of the year... really Bud Black deserves it though.

Agreed, Dave had it until that spell in August/September. That hurt him in a lot of people's eyes around the league.

The Rockies fans I know are really fucking PISSED right now. Felt Freeland was in the conversation with Bellinger and that Arenado and Blackmon were MVP's 1a and 1b... it's enjoyable to watch the meltdowns.

Cody Bellinger named Players Choice NL Outstanding Rookie
by Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — 17 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers first baseman Cody Bellinger was voted by his peers as the top rookie in the National League, winning the Player Choice NL Outstanding Rookie award on Wednesday.

Bellinger beat out fellow finalists Josh Bell of the Pirates and Paul DeJong of the Cardinals. Like the Sporting News NL Rookie of the Year Award, also won by Bellinger, the Players Choice awards are voted on by major league players.

“Just taking notice of what other players think of you, it’s a cool honor,” Bellinger said last month after winning the Sporting News honor.

This is the second straight season a Dodger was named the top NL rookie by MLB players, with shortstop Corey Seager winning in 2016.

Bellinger, who set a National League rookie record with 39 home runs in 2017, is also a finalist for the National League Rookie of the Year Award as voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America. The winner for that award will be announced on Monday.

Clayton Kershaw was a finalist for NL Outstanding Pitcher, an award that went to Max Scherzer of the Nationals.

Corey Seager wins 2nd Silver Slugger Award at shortstop
First repeat Dodgers winner in 20 years
by Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — 34 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager has played two full seasons in the majors, and has two Silver Slugger Awards. His second such award came on Thursday, named the best offensive shortstop in the National League.

He is the first Dodger to win a Silver Slugger in consecutive seasons since Mike Piazza won five straight years from 1993-97. The Silver Sluggers have been awarded since 1980, and Seager is the only Dodgers shortstop to be so honored.

Seager hit .295/.375/.479 with 33 doubles, 22 home runs and 67 walks in 2017, with a 125 OPS+ and 127 wRC+. The Dodgers in their franchise history have had three seasons with a player hitting 20 or more home runs as a shortstop, and Seager has two of them — both of his full seasons.

Reds shortstop Zack Cozart, who beat out Seager in fan voting for the starting spot in the All-Star Game in July, had a strong case for the Silver Slugger as well, with better rate stats than Seager but also in 106 fewer plate appearances.

The Silver Slugger Awards were voted on by MLB managers and coaches.

Seager is one of seven National League winners this year with multiple Silver Slugger Awards, joining catcher Buster Posey (his fourth award), first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (third), third baseman Nolan Arenado (third), second baseman Daniel Murphy (second), and outfielders Giancarlo Stanton (second) and Charlie Blackmon (second).

Dodgers named Wilson’s Best Defensive Team for 2017
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 4 hours ago

The Los Angeles Dodgers were named the Defensive Team of the Year, adding to Yasiel Puig being named the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year for right field. Puig was a finalist for a Gold Glove Award, which went to Jason Heyward of the Chicago Cubs a fourth straight year.

Unlike the Gold Glove, Wilson recognizes just one player at each position. Since 2014, they’ve recognized the top overall defensive team. For individual and the team awards, Wilson determines a winner based on a formula that combines traditional defensive stats with advanced metrics, and data logged by scouting service Inside Edge.

The Dodgers taking home the team award is a first in franchise history. Per Inside Edge, the club converted 39 non-routine plays out of 146 chances during the second half of the season.

They ranked fifth overall in such instances, and their 26.7 percent conversion rate after the All-Star break was superior to the league average of 21.6 percent.

Moreover, the Dodgers finished second overall with a .719 defensive efficiency (.719) and with 68 defensive runs saved. Their 24.5 defensive rating was fifth-best, and the Dodgers ranked sixth with a 20.5 universal zone rating.

In addition to Puig playing a stellar right field, the Dodgers received strong showings from Cody Bellinger at first base, Justin Turner at third base, and Chris Taylor in center field.

Corey Seager’s steady play at shortstop earned him a spot as a finalist for a Gold Glove Award, which went to Brandon Crawford of the San Francisco Giants.

Corey Seager should not have been a finalist for any award related to defense
