    • The Dodgers have acquired righty Joe Gunkel from the Orioles, per a club announcement. Los Angeles will send cash or a player to be named later in return. Gunkel was designated for assignment recently by Baltimore.

So if Gutierrez has to go to the DL, which I am guessing they will do since it is only a 10 day thing and he'd only miss 8 games, I wonder if O'Koyea Dickson could get the call. They would have to make a move on the 40 man after the Gunkel deal, but that seems like an easy enough move. He is coming off not only a good 2016, but a great second half where I remember reading that he made some changes to his swing that saw the ball jumping off his bat. Now he is off to a great start to the season in AAA and could offer a ride the hot hand scenario. The team has plenty of other options on the 40 man, but Dickson could be an interesting choice to see if this guy is for real or not.

Actually, he would have been safe either way since Posey never actually caught the ball... but IF Posey catches the ball then yes, Cousins is out with a slide.

The proper way to play catcher is to plant your left foot on the corner of the plate before the ball gets there, and NEVER place your left knee on the ground. NEVER. 12-year-olds are taught just that. Put your knee down and you will get fucked up. You'd think a professional major league catcher would know this. But I guess that's what happens when a guy who should play 1B gets behind the dish and he has a puss manager who makes excuses for him.

Two friends of mine (yes, I have two friends), both college catchers and both Giant fans, said the same thing.

As much as I loathed Rose back in the day, Fosse was at fault for the collision in the All Star Game. Fosse planted himself in the base line. Gave Pete little other options.

I am sure he is the one they would call up at this time, but it would be interesting to see Dickson get his shot finally.

Posey to the 7-Day DL as a precautionary measure. He was hit in the back of the head by a Tajuan Walker FB yesterday. He is said to be fine, but the Giants have been burned by guys coming back too soon from head injuries and don't want to risk something major.

I hope the kid has a good career, but I have a hard time believing that he will be the next Pedro. One thing that plagued him in the minors was consistency. He'd be great, then his command would fall apart. He would get himself out the jams at the lower levels, but he gotten eaten alive in AAA. It will be interesting to watch how he adjusts in MLB once there is a book on him.

Well if Gutierrez goes on the DL, it won't likely be for Eibner, Dickson, Thompson or Segedin as all are starting tonight... Chris Taylor on the other hand is not in the lineup, so he may be the man up.

    agreed
my only beef was it was [essentially] an exhibition game
that said, fosse should have been well aware that rose was a gamer 24/7/365

Correct on a exhibition aspect of the game.

What if Rose is injured because he was forced to slide awkwardly because Fosse was blocking the baseline?

Back then I would have said "fuck Rose."

    today that would never happen
not quite as laid back as the pro bowl or nba all star game, but still
    wasn't the same in 1970
and i think was due to free agency not yet being in effect
guys routinely played their entire careers with one team
today guys get along, are all friends, and often become teammates
a lot of people don't know jackie chose retirement over reporting to the giants after being traded
    anyway, rambling a bit
but the competition between leagues was greater back then
interleague play killed that (thanks bud)
and the unbalanced schedule sucks too, but that's another matter
    but back to the point...
anybody who slid hard or caused a collision in today's [all star] game would be an instant pariah

So true as an admirable display of loyalty NEVER to be seen today

True, as an example of how much the game has changed
