Dirty, little secret in the league right now is that no one defensive player is worth 20MM+ in a general sense. They've made it impossible to play D consistently and effectively with all the rule changes. How much $ did Aaron Donald get from the Rams this past offseason? And the Rams just gave up 45 points to the Saints. And Mack was in the lineup when the Bears gave up 40 points to the Patriots. Can't really stop the quick passing game in this NFL. The NFL is now NCAA 2.0 But if you throw in circumstance, like say if you have a young QB on a rookie contract, paying a defensive player that much won't kill you short term. With that said, not gonna give a damn about the Mack trade either if they just draft Nick Bosa and start building a collective through the draft. Go expensive and pay for offense through free agency..go cheap and draft defense since you can't play it anymore anyway. With the spread/spacing quick passing game becoming so prevalent, cornerback/sub package cover linebacker ( or safety) is where the most value is in this new game. Packers are off to a solid start building, have their 3 young corners, so I wouldn't worry about that Saints' pick..that was a late round pick the day they got it. Ward was a hell of a pick for the Brownies..they better hope his hip injury isn't serious.
