    On the day after the Dodgers clinched a postseason berth, their manager did not rule out the possibility that Austin Barnes could be their primary catcher in the playoffs.

    The Dodgers have used Barnes to spell Yasmani Grandal against left-handers this season. But Barnes has been more effective than Grandal against right-handers as well, and Grandal leads the major leagues in passed balls.

    “If you’re looking to win 11 games in October, there needs to be consideration of who gives you the best chance to win that particular game,” manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday. “Austin deserves that consideration. He’s earned it.”

    Barnes is batting .297 with six home runs and an .887 on-base-plus-slugging percentage, the highest of any National League catcher with at least 200 plate appearances.

    In September, Grandal has one hit in 30 at-bats, with 16 strikeouts.

    “I fully expect Yasmani to get on track,” Roberts said.

    Barnes is batting .360 with a .965 OPS against right-handers, .242 with an .818 OPS against left-handers. Grandal is batting .249 with a .772 OPS against right-handers, .231 with a .677 OPS against left-handers.

    I find a close up of Baez and Rosario (3b, AZ) impossible to look away from almost immediately.
    I guess for different reasons, however.
    Or not.

    Barnes is the safer play, and Grandal is the play with more upside. I'd still be surprised if Barnes is the primary catcher, but I like surprises.

    I'd argue that Barnes has both the higher floor and the higher ceiling. His wOBA in 225 AB's this year is higher than anything Grandmal has ever put up. I think the changing of the guard is overdue.

    just tired of grandmal's passed balls
    not to mention his 1-for-30 september
    guy is probably tired
    rest and a little competition couldn't hurt

    another thing i initially thought could be interesting would be barnes at 2b
    logan is really good against lhp
    and barnes has ridiculous reverse splits against rhp -- .356/.472/.483
    highest in mlb i think i heard joe davis say yesterday
    just not sure i like the idea of sitting chase down, especially in the post
    so yeah, sit yaz

    Tired. Give me a fucking break.

    Fucker is way too hot and cold for my taste. Just about the last guy I want up in a clutch situation.

    Not sure his receiving ability (PBs aside) outweigh his other deficiencies.

    can't disagree
    it would be one thing if he were hitting into bad luck
    but the guy is just fucken terrible
    sure you saw it, but he missed a pitch by almost a foot the other day
    can't catch can't hit
    maybe it's his eyesight... collateral side effects from all the rogaine/hair plugs

    The way grandal has been playing lately looks very similar to a guy who shaves points. Or he could just flat out fucking suck.

    This thread is quite the contrast to last year's reaction when Barnes made the NLDS roster. Back then the feelings ranged from negative to 'he's just there for emergencies'. Except for @LASports96 , that dude believed in Barnes the whole time.
