Durant will most likely stay at OKC and LeBron in CLE.
So lets be a little realistic.
Throw max money at those 3 players. We can afford it.
Horford is now a legit 3 point threat to alongside his hustle, smart play, mid range jumper and real good defense at C.
The fact that he is short for C and is mobile means he would be a great defender at PF.
Whiteside is a defensive beast who leads the league in blocks and is still basically a rookie. If his low post offense ever improves even a bit he will be a monster player.
Mike Conley is a pro PG who makes the right play and is good at every facet of the game, can hit open jumpers, play the pick and roll, find the open man, and can defend other lead guards with skill.

If we spend all our FA money on these not so big names and not so super stars we will be better off than trying to land a Durant or LeBron and flaming out.
Lock these 3 guys up with max deals right away. Sell them on the future they can write for themselves here in LA where they will be considered a BIG 3 even if they arent household names right now.
Throw in the young guys already on the Lakers and this team is a solid NBA championship contender for many many years.

    PG: Mike Conley, Lou Williams
    SG: D'Angelo Russell, Nick Young
    SF: Jordan Clarkson, Anthony Brown
    PF: Al Horford, Julius Randle
C : Hassan Whiteside, Larry Nance

Kobe Bryant as Head Coach. :D

3 PG's in the starting lineup with a fourth coming off the bench to make the fastest, slickest, most creative backcourt/swingman group in the NBA... and Swaggy P to sop up whatever minutes are left over.
The NBA is going smaller and faster for the most part so i think we can get away with guys like Clarkson or Russell playing SF. Randle can even play some SF if needed for matchips.
Our 3 man front court rotation would be sweet with Horford, Whiteside, and Randle. They could each average around 33 MPG and be all stars.
Young and Williams have their issues obviously but they are signed for relatively cheap contracts for their ability to produce in bunches off the bench.
Tough squad IMO with a great 8 man rotation in the playoffs.

ah Rube where did you leave your meds?

If 50% of your vision is correct then these Lakers are in full #tank2016 mode

And Kobe has stated repeatedly that he has no interest in coaching... which is good because the rest of the league has stated repeatedly that they have no interest in working with Kobe ... regardless of his position

    Kobe = toxic waste

Kobe as coach was a joke. More than likely it may be someone like Luke Walton.
And yeah, the Lakers are in full tank mode, havent you heard?
Kobe is getting all the reps he can get to go out with a bang.
That will keep the media and most of the fans from caring about the record.
They will all be in on the joke (tanking for Ben Simmons) while enjoying one last hurrah watching Kobe be Kobe and not have to sit and behave.
If we land Ben Simmons by tanking to a 10 and 72 record then next years team is poised for greatness.
Signing Whiteside becomes key as that gives the team a defensive presence it will sorely lack.
Getting Horford and Conley who are also defensive stalwarts and steady professionals would serve to help the kids as well.
They both could slip into bench roles in the future when the kids are fully mature.
But for now a team comprised of these veterans and rookies would contend for rings right away.

    PG: Conley, Russell
    SG: Clarkson, Russell
    SF: Simmons, Russell/Randle
    PF: Horford, Randle
    C : Whiteside, Randle

That would be a really nice 7 man core where everyone gets 30 to 36 MPG, aka starters minutes.
But if we can only sign one guy then let it be Whiteside, we can fill the other spots with bench players that are adequate but its very hard to find a player like Whiteside. Sell him on the long list of Laker centers and get him on board.
If we dont sign Horford and Conley we can wait in case Durant wants to come over.

Russell, Clarkson, Durant, Simmons, Whiteside with Randle off the bench.

I agree with most of that and think that it's going to be Randle's job to step up.

Unless he's being told not to.

But that is insane to consider By Scott tossing games.. Nahh

I like the young trio but nothing has gelled with the others. I thought that Artest's return would help more than it has.

Whiteside Randle could be a solid lineup and Horford is slow but he's solid and his mid range baby jumper is deadly

Something has to happen on D in order to keep us in games

then let the O find itself
