I wonder. Just red an article that reminded me that Magic really wanted the Lakers to draft Okafor instead of Russel. Could Magic be preparing an offer to the 76ers? Maybe the Houston Pick/Clarkson/Nance for Okafor and the realease of the 2017 pick.

Mitch was horrible at making deals. Probably the worst GM at dealing with other organizations for trades or with agents and their free agent clients.
    Great at scouting and drafting.

I would not say that......Traded for Pau (got a ring out of it), Signed Artest (got a ring out of it). Signed Malone and GP (they lost in the finals cuz of injuries and Phil's refusal to use GP correctly). Traded for Nash, yeah it is costing us now, but IF Nash was healthy the feeling might be different. Not trying to be a Cupcake apologist, but he was not horrible by any stretch.

Just red this: The Lakers had multiple offers which included first-round picks on the table for Lou Williams over the past few weeks, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com reports
I have to think that any of those other trades had higher 1st round picks......though they may have come with some protection.

Wizards were supposedly the team interested most.

But now I think it's obvious the only team offering up a 1st was houston.

Why would they take a lesser pick? Makes no sense at all.

Anyway this just may be more to add for jimmy butler.

The timing of the move is telling possibly, because they could have waited and maybe got more come thursday............unless they trying to do something else where that 1st was needed. Butler maybe.o_O

Ridiculous..you act like Brewer's making 10-12MM next year.
Not much difference between what Lou is making next year and what Brewer's making next year..500K difference.
They have way bigger problems than that regarding their payroll, so getting a 1st round asset from HOU makes enough sense

Magic also didn't come back to put his brand on the line and fail, so it wouldn't shock me if he already had something in place or up his sleeve in the near future.

Yeah...I gotta think the made the Lou deal early because they wanted to flip that pick in another deal.

I expect to see something today or tomorrow.
But wouldn't be too upset if they just sit tight. Give the kids another year to see who's good and who's not.

The last few years have really soured peoples opinions on him. But idk, I don't think there was much he could do.

the CP3 trade that didn't follow through really fucked us. We had to go and get Nash, who flamed out. Dwight was okay, but then he left. Kobe was injured. Nobody wanted to play for us and many still don't.

But Mitch wasn't horrible. He won us rings. But it's always gonna be what have you done for me lately.

Not ridiculous. Brewer is effectively useless. That trade should have accomplished two things get an asset (got the first round pick, albeit one that will be in the last 5 picks of the first round) AND not add ANY salary past this season (failed)

I just looked at the salaries.......it is only $600K for this year and next. SO basically the Lakers added a non protected 1st round pick for $1.2M. When you frame it like that it doesn't sound that bad. I suspect that any other 1st round pick that was offered by other teams was protected.

    Yes, ridiculous.
I could see if Lou was an expiring contract, but ridiculing them for adding 500K to the payroll is shortsighted.
Free agency isn't the only way to acquire talent and you're fussing over 500K of payroll added when the player they got actually does something that about 2 guys on the current team can do - which is defend.
Luke covets length and defense, so I expect the useless/6'9" Brewer to actually be used to bring some defensive spark if they don't move him..to basically do what Luke wishes old man MWP could do more often

Mitch was never a " recruiter " type, he was a draft/scouting guy and that fit for a long time because LAL's payroll was always massive and so they weren't really players in free agency for much of Mitch's tenure anyway.
Hands were tied, so his draft/scouting skills were necessary..grabbing talented guys like Farmar/Marc Gasol at the back of the 1st round/2nd round.
The one big FA they landed was MWP and even that was for 5M per year, basically all they could give him..and guess who actually recruited MWP to LAL?
    Magic.
So at this juncture in the rebuild, after having drafted a lot of talented players thanks to Mitch..yes, Magic and Pelinka are probably the best fit for the next phase because they need to recruit now.
Sucks for Mitch because he did very well in trades..everybody always talks about the Pau trade, Nash, and Dwight, but remember..Mitch traded Brian Cook for Trevor Ariza and also traded for Shannon Brown and infused LAL's last title teams w/the athleticism they needed around Kobe/Pau.
Mitch just fell short in the recruiting/FA process, but that was with the help of a fractured FO, so I sort of feel for him..in a better scenario he'd stay in the FO.
I'm sure Jerry West isn't happy about Mitch being ousted along w/Jim...Mitch had sort of earned the right to resign and walk away w/his head held high.
