Sounds like he backing our of his fight facing arbitration. This means a lifetime ban and loss of his titles and prize money. It also sounds like there may be another fight as he claims the arb process isn't fair fair for the athlete and that the USADA is over stepping it's authority.

What initially sounds like the end of the armstrong fight is probably not really going to be the end in reality, he is just changing the fight

As for Lance, guilty as fuck. Personally if I'm clean I do anything to clear my name. It seems to me that Lance knows they have the goods on him and his best way to save face is to give the old "I'm just tired of fighting" defense.

He knows what they have on him and he knows he's guilty nuff said.

The real question is does anybody really give a shit? Nobody cares about cycling at all and what lance has done with livestrong is worth it to me even if he is a cheater. I mean tour de france? A cyclist using performance enhancing drugs?

I just saw report that because of this ban he can't run in the Chicago marathon because it is sanctioned by US track and field.

Come on, dude does it for charity, they going to test everyone who enters now?

I thought that same... I'm all for USATF but since no one is drug testing EVERY marathoner then WTF is up with banning Lance?

    a) Armstrong is guilty of PED cheating. Everyone knows it.
    b) Landis is guilty of PED cheating. And of being a scum.
    c) The US Postal Service public reputation is soooooo bad that 'anything' Armstrong did by winning 7 years in a row was hugely beneficial.
    d) I find it ludicrous to think that No One from US Postal knew anything during those entire 7 years. Bullshit. Now tell me that USPS oversight was from Dick Cheney's office and I'll understand.

It seems that many of the exact substances and doping techniques used by Armstrong and the US Postal team were not illegal at the time they were used. Were they morally unfair? Sure. The cheaters had far better Dr's than the doping agencies chartered to stop them.

Not as a defense to Armstrong but if the drug laws didn't exist at the time Armstrong used drugs, and when they did become illegal then he switched to a new PED, which itself was not illegal that season, then what is the Justice Dept doing?

Except exercising a frothing media and an overworked court system?

And since when does the Justice Dept claim not to be able to make deals? WTF else do they do?

yeah and do not discount the HUGE positive impact he had for the US Postal team for nearly a decade. Huge. I think that the $100,000,000 could be way low when one amortizes out the quantities of media impressions.

He did them a favor. Dirty or not. Cheating or not. He still provided the USPS with fabulous publicity when they were getting none elsewhere. (hint= they're still not)

Ok we can establish a mutual agreement...

    Lance is dirty. No argument.

However do not for a single breath believe that hypocrites at both the US Postal and Justice Dept are AT LEAST that dirty.

This is what the media, government, & companies do... Build them up and then tear them down. Look at all of the athletes that this has happened to over the years. This type of behavior justifies the existence of the media. Look at Bonds, A-Rod, McGuire, Sosa, etc... Look at the USC footbal program or any NCAA school that was sanctioned. Look the other way while the money and accolades are flowing in, then POW, cut their nuts of when it suits them... Point out the cheater and maybe they won't notice how much we cheat???

Leave Lance alone. He has done great things with Livestrong. He cheated, we get it... Move on...

^... I agree with both of you guys

I'm not sure if it is even possible to quantify how much Lance brought to the US Postal team. They have research companies for this sort of thing but from a fans perspective the Tour de France was some humdrum foreign event that no one cared about until Greg LeMond won. And then we cared only so much because his damn last name is French and... well... we hate the damn snotty French.

But when some one nut wunderkind from Texas goes over and wins 7 Tours in a row then shit howdy the Tour and US Postal all of the sudden are front page news.

The Justice Dept and US Postal should just shut the fuck up already.

Lance sponsors got their rewards already... they rode on the back of his publicity for almost a decade and never complained.

Now they can just shut their whiny mouths...
