    He's gone ain't he?
We all know why, but gone, baby gone...
Speaking of why, it was for that great Chooch guy right?
Actually, I would like to have Ellis behind there when Kershaw pitches until the end of the season. Yup. Personal catcher for his remaining starts.
To let CK get right, then garrotte him and put him in the pig pen in Deadwood or whatever.

Who is the bad guy director.
    Polanski or Gibson?
One is celebrated by the industry. The other lambasted.

I think you make a good point (and I'm a fan of Gibson), but both Polanski and Woody Allen have taken a huge amount of shit around their "allegations". I don't think you can say being a leftist earns you a pass on these things, if they reach the public. Underground underage sex in Hollywood is obviously discussed pretty routinely.

Of course you get a pass.
You get some token criticism by some but that quickly goes away and you are welcomed back to the hollywood fold with open arms.
Hollywood companies continue to revere Polanski and Allen while Gibson has to go into his own bank account to make his movies.
Gibson makes movies for 20M dollars that look better than what hollywood overspends on a 200M movie.
And his movies turn around a great profit.

Underground sex in hollywood is normal.
The word stars is synonymous with gods.
In the long ago past fans of star cults would 'sacrifice' virgins to appease their gods.
Represented by their 'gods on earth' or 'father figure' priests who would do the 'sacrificing'.
Which was needed because the entire thing was a rouse for dirty old men to be able to do whatever crazy sexual acts they wanted to. Of course once you rape a child you need to end its life, physically or at least psychologically. Hence the sacrifices.
Apart from the appeal of youth to old men who physically or psychologically could not dominate adult women the child would guarantee the old men would not have to face the specter of appearance mutating and health destroying venereal disease which was rampant.
Old prostitutes being the witches of yore with their boils and warped facial features and other maladies due to years of getting filled with VD.
Some of these prostitutes were 'wise' women because they were escaped victims who were to be sacrificed.
That wisdom being the root of the word witch/wiccan.
    Nothing has changed.
The gods of hollywood stars must be serviced.
Have you seen eyes wide shut?
After all the movies Kubric made exposing the lies we close our eyes too the one that got him killed was Eyes Wide Shut.

I guess that depends what you'd consider a pass. They guy has had his name pretty thoroughly dragged through the sordid tabloid mud, and I think even most people who for some reason believe him innocent of what he's been charged with feel the way you do about his general presence (odd, wormy, etc.).

For the record, Gibson has two new movies out, both of which are apparently excellent. Given the star power in the cast and the funding of both movies (Gibson didn't produce either Hacksaw Ridge or Blood Father) I'd say he's pretty well off the blacklist. And as for future success irritating the powers that be, in my opinion it's clear that the almighty dollar transcends party lines. I don't think Hollywood is ever chagrinned when money is made, and I don't think movies get made in Hollywood without the blessing from on high, so the mere fact that he's involved in new material (let alone the high-profile stuff he is) is some evidence that he's back in the fold.
See above on your claims about Gibson self-funding. I won't dispute you about his qualifications, I think he's excellent in most every regard. However...his alcoholism was severe to the point of inveteracy. I salute him for getting himself back together, but whether or not other people have gotten away with similar vices in the past, I can't blame the industry (as sick as it is) for exhibiting reluctance to involve a massive boozer, especially after his babbling about "the Jews".

To answer your last question, I haven't seen Eyes Wide Shut and I want to immerse myself more fully in Kubrick's catalog in general. I think I've only seen Clockwork Orange and Shining.

If you do the Kubrick thing, one of his absolute finest, is " Paths of Glory".

The tabloids are largely independent of hollywood. In fact the tabloids are usually the best at scrounging around some of the underbelly hollywood doesnt want reported. Polanski is beloved and the Hollywood media are always proclaiming his innocence.

Bloodfather is a French production that is just set in the US. Its not Hollywood at all.
The movie about Doss is an Australian/American co production with some German help. But mostly produced by Gibson. Only filmed using the Fox studios which befits Fox being that Murdoch is from and started out in Australia and Fox tends to cater a lot less to the left than to the right.
I forget the name of the Australian independent company involved but the American production house is Icon which is owned by Mel Gibson and produced his movies Apocalypto and Passion.

But yes, money is their only true god.
Alcoholism is not nearly as morally reprehensible as what we are talking about. Total false equivalency. It is also not illegal. Everyone drinks and drugs up in Hollywood. Although supposedly Gibson has been clean of alcohol since he railed against the jewish hollywood elite.

Kubrick is the best. The BEST. His movies are all substance therefore they are filled with subtext.
In the Shinning you get the clues about the Apollo moon landing.

Dodgers’ magic number to clinch NL West is 15
by Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — 3 hours ago

As the Dodgers try to capture their fourth consecutive National League West title and a fourth straight trip to the postseason, unprecedented in franchise history, we will keep track of their magic number, the combination of Dodgers wins and Giants losses needed to clinch the division.

The Dodgers did not help themselves on Tuesday night with a 3-0 loss to the Yankees in New York, but with the Giants’ stunning loss at home to the Padres — allowing five runs in the ninth inning, punctuated by Ryan Schmipf’s game-winning three-run home run — LA’s lead in the division remains four games, with 18 games remaining in the regular season.

    NL West standings
    Dodgers 81-63 (.563)
    Giants 77-67 (.535), 4 GB

That leaves the Dodgers’ current magic number to clinch the NL West at 15, embodied below by former second baseman and former first base coach Davey Lopes.

The Dodgers on Wednesday battle the Yankees in their series finale in New York with a 1:05 p.m. PT start, while the Giants finish off their home series against the Padres.

The next photo post in this thread will be, I hope, for the guy who has the most votes to get in the HoF without gaining admission, the great Gil Hodges.
In some recent reading, (moving on from book to book about the Dodgers these days), came across the stats: lifetime .273 BA, 370 HR, 7 seasons with 100 or more RBIs, played on 7 pennant winners, 2 WS champions.
However, Ted Williams, who packed big sway with the HoF Veterans Committee, talked him down as an inductee when his name came up as unworthy, time after time. Didn't know that.
Wasn't so much his numbers, as it was his anger over Gil's popularity as Washington manager while Williams was definitely not.
Probanly the greatest hitter ever, Williams bb achievements are not arguable, imo. If someone does, they are d&d.
And I always admired his service and bravery serving the country.
But I will always now consider this jealousy as beneath an icon, and number 14 should be up there, in it's own circle, with the rest at Dodger Stadium.
    Shame on you, Ted.
BTW, Gil was a Marine, and awarded multiple medals for bravery himself.

Ted was a complex man, to put it mildly.

I'd recommend the Leigh Monteville bio on Williams. Pretty balanced view.

It's always bugged me that Hodges' 14 is retired by the Mets and not by us.

Mind you, never saw the dude play and barely heard of him until I started learning more and more about the Dodgers. I always thought maybe he and Gilliam could be the exceptions to the rule that you have to be a HoF to have your number retired.
