To be fair, if I was in his position I'd want every last penny I could get as well.

No reasonable human being should be able to spend over 10 million dollars in their lifetime.

But they want 3X that per year for a decade? I mean, come on. Obviously that money will be able to be inherited and help your family for years but so many athletes blow it on stupid shit.

Clayton won't blow it all obviously, but still.

So now we believe Rosencrap? Rampant speculation on the numbers here so until we get the whole story so I'm not going to go off the deep end. He'll sign here and it will be well worth it to both sides!

Easy for any of us to say that but it's much easier said than done to take less money in that large amount, especially when relative to the league he deserves this insanity. And having players take less, or forcing them to, would make MLB suck like the economics of the NBA or NFL. Capitalism rocks, baby... Also, there's an agent making money here too, he's gotta earn that cash and that rep. It sucks that this is the business of having one of the best players we've ever had but it is what it is, and we've leached amazing seasons meanwhile paying him chump change so now he's gotta get his due

True, and sometimes we must remember that these players don't owe the organization anything when it comes down to it. Just like you or I would leave Target to work at Costco if they offered us more money. And we'd try to get the most we could in either situation.

It's just hard to fathom being so adamant about getting 30M every year instead of 27 or whatever.

But as much as we can compare it to doctors, lawyers, CEOs, etc, it ISN'T the same.

These guys are playing a game they love.

That has been the plan, in the short-term (until they can sign and develop quality draft picks and international free agents, which will take a good 5 years) the way to be competitive was to have a huge payroll.

5 years from now the contracts of Crawford, Ethier, Gonzalez and Greinke (unless he opts-out and re-signs) will have all expired and Kemp will the next year.

After that, i'm sure they will still run a payroll over $200M, but not much more.

$30M per year over 7+years with an opt out for CK is just stupid. I don't give a fuck how good he is, I love the kid...he's the best pitcher we've had maybe ever...but give me a fucking break.
He pitches once a week. He doesn't win every game, not even close(I know it's not his fault...but it's still not like buying an auto-win, that's been a fact). If you put a Greinke level in his place we'd probably have the same record overall. A starting pitcher cannot be that expensive.
CK cannot win all of his starts and won't win the other 4 starts per week. He contributes by eating innings and saving BP arms, but still can only win once a week max and again, won't win every start.

Position players deserve more money than pitchers. Fuck this shit! Hanley Ramirez helps us win daily, as does Puig, AGon, etc....far more valuable in the grand scheme of things (overall record).

I'm with you, but if it's that or he walks, I sign him. And I'm the guy who wishes we let Kemp walk.

I read that Costco pays really well and has good benefits

I would do 30M per year for 7 years with no opt-out clause. If he wants more than we will have to trade him. :(

Hard to for me comprehend really. And I'm the guy that thinks Kemp's contract is a good one(well before all these weird injuries and an obviously bad early return). ;)

30M or he walks or we trade him, I'd vote trade him. We aren't going to get equal value back for him, most likely, but we could get a really good package for him.

My new goal is gonna be to get a beat reporter to ask Mattingly if they've considered leaving Ethier in CF vs. righties even when Kemp comes back, and having Kemp man LF/RF.

and before its taken this way, it's not a thing of me hating Kemp or anything, but our team is better with him in a corner cause he's not the best defensive CF on our team. Sad we had to find out all the way until 2013 but oh well, lets not repeat mistakes. I hope he hits, thats priority #1.

He may pitch once a week, but his total contribution has been worth 7.4 rWAR thus far and on pace for 9.
He was worth 6.6 wins last year and 7.1 before that

Kershaw is worth a 30M AAV contract in my opinion. Especially considering progression/inflation etc. He is the best pitcher (one of the best overall players at that) in the league, and should be paid like it.
He likely generates a shit load of money for the Dodgers anyways be it apparel sales, attendance and what not.
In 5 years 30M may seem like a bargain when he's turning in 6+ win seasons continually

I'd start with a young player or two already in the majors doing good things and then go from there.

Sorry, WAR is shit IMO. When I read a guy like Swisher had a higher WAR than AGon a couple months ago, that stat can suck my dick from now on.

We aren't trading him and he'll be a Dodger, just relax.

Miller, Taveras, Wong, Wacha, and Martinez. That's a great package.
